<Poll> Does arguing about every tournament rule make a tournament any better?

Does arguing about every tournament rule make a tournament any better?
Yes, every part matters and I won't enter unless it is perfect!
1 (10%)
No, and I will still enter if it's somewhat close to perfect.
1 (10%)
No, I just like arguing.
1 (10%)
No, and I would enter a tournament with a somewhat reasonable ruleset because tournaments are about having fun and not arguing about every part.

Where's the 'no, but debating certain rules opens up potential doors for oversights and an inevitable more fun tourney'.
...I wouldn't really say anyone was arguing persay, just debating points and rule preferences.

Something Neko and I can agree on!
I already told Jon this, but my stance isn't on the poll either - it's something more like "Yes, it can make a tournament better, but that doesn't mean I won't enter a tournament that isn't as good as it could be; it's just kind of a shame."

I think large reason this tourney has plenty more debate than others is because this is the first one we're having (that i can recall, i may be wrong) that has 2 divisions. Once we run a couple of these style tourneys, I'm sure there will be less quarrel. We were used to having one division tourney.
But it is a healthy debate. Yes, there were some novels and some saying "it should be my way because..." but whats important is that there was also a good deal of discussion making good points on where every player is coming from, and what backs up their stance on certain rules. None of us are angry and fuming, all of us in that debate are just as
excited
for this tournament as anybody else is

As much as people say it was "healthy" debate, there was enough frustration to be mentioned to me by several people.
I think we're perfectly capable of continuing now with healthy debate, although I do have to point out that not all of the posts from last week were even close to marginally "healthy".

Wildly inaccurate - the last ITG tournament we had at Acme (run by Amber and Kevin) was split into a DDR and ITG event on separate days as the only reasonable way to resolve the same debate. That solution was reached sometime after Laura had set up a separate DDR tournament to ease the same tension.
The issue at hand has very little to do with the division split (which was meant to resolve the play style split) and more to do with the sheer rarity of tournaments around here paired with members of both extremes taking highly inflexible stances on how the rules must be set for the tournament to be "good" (translation: emphasizing the charts they play and banning the rest).
Unfortunately, the inflexibility on both sides did drag the debate from "hopefully we'll reach a solid compromise" to "obviously unproductive".
Regarding the original question, the proper option is, as noted, completely absent. So far, I haven't been burned badly enough by bad tournaments to stop entering with anything short of "perfect" rules (though my patience is wearing thin), but if a heated debate can catch obvious mistakes or find a way to make the tournament more exiting for everyone involved, then it's worth the effort.

This poll is a wise-crack by the forum administrator to 'calm people down' but in fact is counterproductive. Debating rules is important, and it does eliminate oversights. None of the above choices are true at all, so stop abusing your forum administrator privileges and making wise-ass polls when you haven't payed attention and don't plan on competing. Enough said. Take it to the other posts please

Yes I remember that happening. But was the ITG or DDR portion of the tournament split into two divisions? or was it just a ITG even and DDR event (without divisions there). ITG and DDR are separate already as far as I am concerned.
As far as the poll itself, my option isn't there also.

@Neem: The event was not split into two divisions, but there was talk of doing so. It was ultimately decided that this was a bad idea because arguments like this happened.
Edit: Also, I've shared my feelings about this poll with Jon, but I just want to reiterate that even though we're debating our asses off in other threads, it seems that the one thing we can all agree on is that this poll doesn't encompass any of our viewpoints, and we all think that debate is constructive as long as we allow it to be. Basically, Jon did his job - uniting us... just, against his poll.

Do you really think those options were meant to be accurate?
This poll did exactly what it was supposed to do.

Where's the "No, but it made for a humorous read for a while" option? :b

Arguably, that's "I just like arguing". You just like to see others do the arguing.
