Beton's Executive Vice President of Sales, Bob Boals, also announces that a content update will be coming in the summer. Approximately 200 to 300 new songs will be added with accompanying new dance steps

Holy shit. Either a typo, or itg3's songs are going to be in SN.

I got this from um

DDR is shot at the LEAST serious dancing game player.

Even if you love DDR with a passion, you got to admit that.

And A MEGA DDR content update = teh win. Seriously

Shit, if SNOVA winds up with 600 songs, I'm gonna have to do better than 250 on the R.A.V.E. Project.

I dunno if they're talking about both dedicabs and upgrades. That would suck if we started seeing dedicabs being converted.

Well, this isn't really big news. The only difference between the two is the guts inside the cabinet. (and higher quality sensors/etc.) In ITG's case 'upgrade' probably means a complete internal hardware replacement, and therefore be super expensive. ($TEXAS)

How many songs did the ITG series (through 3) have? It wasn't close to 300, was it?

Around 200. ITG 1 and 2 had a total of 130something songs, and I'm estimating ITG 3 would've added about 65-75 songs

The flyer for ITG3 promised 80+ new songs, and ITG2 has 135 I think.  The range of 200-300 songs coincides with them adding all of the songs from ITG1-3 to SN (and probably greatly dumbing down the steps too, since they said "new charts" somewhere).  Considering that around 90% of SN is Konami originals without any licenses from the real DDR series, I doubt they are suddenly going to bring 200+ licenses from the true DDR series back ('twould be very costly and wouldn't help sales that much, either).

I wouldn't be that surprised if Betson was planning to do this from the moment they started making SN.  But this post is coming from someone whose favorite required high school book was 1984.

After reading bacon's correspondence with bacon and betson/KK, I'm almost 100% certain that this upgrade is going to be "SuperNova 2"
200-300 figure is more than likely total number of songs as opposed to that many new, but I'm sure there will be some new songs.  Can't wait.

I also think it is unlikely that this is going to be a new ITG mix or anything similar.  The possibility of ITG artists making music for Konami can't be completely denied (and I suppose step artists), but personally, I think the In The Groove franchise in itself is done for on the official level.

It said "added", which implies that they probably are for the most part, keeping the old songlist.  They probably won't make any new ITG music, but just absorb what's already been done/licensed for ITG into SN.  With that, arcade owners will be willing to convert their ITG machines into DDR, and Koami covers up possible legal damage from R2x, or just extends their market share and once again lets DDR die, not giving a crap about the series.

I really wish Konami would focus on games that they actually care about.

I'm saying that they're misinterpreting/misrepresenting the hypothetical fact that there "exists 200-300 songs on the update disc" as "200-300 songs will be added"
Actually it may not even be a false statement, though misleading.
And then again, it COULD be 200-300 new songs, I guess... highly unlikely considernig how much money/time it costs to produce things like this though.

Money?  Time?  It really takes a lot of effort to turn existing stepcharts that follow the same 4- or 8-panel format into... stepcharts that follow the same 4- and 8-panel format.  Unless they dumb down the charts, in which case it takes a lot of effort to autogen steps like they did for every song (see: Curus double), or to just dump every chart over a 9 and dumb down the Hard charts that are 10+.

I really think that they are incorporating ITG into SN and trying to take ITG off the market.  It makes perfect sense:
- The number of songs in ITG 1-3 fits in the range they said.
- The fact that they would make SN in the first place (I recall them knowing ITG3 wasn't coming out either... I wonder why?).
- The upgrade works on both ITG and DDR cabinets.  Not every arcade owner is smart enough to realize that ITG2 has R21 (or that there are revisions at all) and will think "This has everything ITG2 does and more huh?  Why do I bother having it?"

This either has to be a typo or its refering to Supernova's original release.  If it isn't, I'm hoping for the Ultramix stuff, past licenses and KOs, and the ITG stuff.  I can do without mines and whatnot, I'm just wondering how charts with handplants and whatnot will fit in.

two things:

money: licenses.  the end.
point two in the ITG makes sense part: They explicitly barred Roxor from developing ITG, of course they knew it won't happen.

Everything else in your post is speculation that I already presented my views for.  Just too lazy to edit the quoting.
