SUCKS. i've been playing ddr X for ps2. i just gotta say it epically fails. the songs are alot of hip hop crap. and omg the anouncer is ridiculous. he says crap like "this song is wikkiwikki wack yo" "pick a song holmes" "theese beats are dun diggity" and "combo wombo" its just ridiculous. are they trying to get rappers to play or what? i'm just so pissed, i had to rant about it.

The only thing the game could have used would have been maybe a couple more crossovers
hahahahahahaha
I know you were probably talking about songs that are crossovers from other games, but after seeing those 17 and 18-block X-specials all I can think about is physical crossovers. Those charts are horrible.

I liked the beginning of the MaxX one, but when it gets to the parts that are slow on the original, it gets messy. The fact that the person didn't pass it also makes it hard to know if it's any good lol.
Healing Vision has a few decent rhythms, but the steps are totally autogen'd...badly. It might be an okay chart with the right turn mod or a lucky shuffle though. I'd probably just play it on shuffle. I dislike the fact that it doesn't pressure the player's stamina--one of the things I really like about the Heavy and Standard charts for Healing Vision and ~Angelic Mix~ is the fact that they're very endurance-oriented compared to other songs of the same difficulty. This chart is a lot more technical, but doesn't look particularly difficult to pass, whereas I'd expect at least an 11 (ITG grading) out of it.
The Candy Star vid didn't load lol.
I turned off the Max 300 vid about 30 steps in. Horrible chart.

MaxX Unlimited (Heavy) is probably one of the best charts in DDR. Can't say that for this chart :/

Most of the X-Specials look good
LoM looks easier to read in the beginning and more tiring in the end
I prefer Candy's old Heavy to the X-Special. And there's this great edit that showed up on home versions' mission modes that is a tiring 8th beat run the entire song.. but it works
I agree with Dieter (
) that MaxX has one of the best charts of all time and the X-Special looks like ass

I liked Healing Vision a lot actually. It actually used interesting rhythms and I thought was mostly well-patterned.
Nothing was as good as Paranoia Eternal though, especially with the reference to the old 5th mix chart at the end.
The new charts for the old boss songs fucking suck though. I don't like any of them.

IORI on once again dude, you hit it right on. I have never been blown away by a song(steps being the most important factor) as much as MaxX Unlimited. I mean that was when DDR became important and meant something, my heart would skip playing that bad boy extra stage in Max2.
Legend of Max was cool(Sakura was cooler) but not as significant as MaxX Unlimited. I think it started with Dead End and Drop Out for me... and Paranoia Clean Mix, even though Rebirth was harder and more challenging and therefore more fun, I just couldn't get enough of the clean mix. but yeah throw in Afranova and there was really nothing else(so not true) that "made an impression" on me, haha.

I agree that no song ever felt as right for me as MaxX Unlimited. Max 300 comes close, as does A (oni) and Fantasy (the fast one), but MaxX Unlimited expresses itself musically through the steps, which makes it particularly easy considering how difficult it is. It's a shame that the new chart doesn't even compare in quality.
Ethan, the Healing Vision chart has a lot of really cool rhythms, but it also has a lot of really retarded double-stepping. Then again, so does HVAM, so maybe it would feel better on an actual pad.
I like the concept they went for here, but the execution was disappointing. BTW, speaking of, was that Maximum Overdrive chart from UM4 any good?

It wasn't that bad. Oh man. Compared to the original Healing Vision or dare I say the original HVAM, that was pretty forgivable doublestepping. Loads better than the doublestepping in say, the Max 300 chart, but that's a pretty extreme contrast.

Why does everyone get so worked up about double-stepping anyways? I've always found decent placements of them in a song can make a chart so much better.

It really depends. Orc Groove Oni vs EotC They both have on beat double stepping, but OGO is one of my favourite charts. I think after a certain speed double stepping is heinous, especially in 16th runs. How about the double step in PSMO? I don't think anyone appreciated that step.

THE doublestep? There's a ton in the part right before the run... and one in the middle (between the 3rd and 4th slowdowns I think). The one in the middle is stupid, but since the others are consistent I kinda like them I guess.
And to clarify, I like doublestepping if it's done creatively, not haphazardly. It's great in the last part of L'amour for instance, but I hate all those doublesteps in Drop Out at the part right before the run.

THE doublestep is bad.
And yeah, Lawnmower is a great chart. There's a note that's not in the music at the beginning of the chart, but it's definitely not an autogen. I think the worst case of autogen still has to be Young Forever with that 20 seconds of jumping and lefts + rights iirc. Edit: not quite that long, but still wtf
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ed1ecwHxlb0
and it happens multiple times. Still strangely like the chart though.

I agree, but like crossovers, they should be used pretty sparingly.

yeah, double steps can suck but I feel like there somewhat rare so I'm usually happy to see them. What I hate is doing them all one one foot, or really any series of three or more steps on one arrow, it makes my leg cramp the fck out.

if you're doing an 8th note run with one foot you're not playing correctly.
i like the foot switching on the 8th note taps in a lot of the x-specials.

Depends though. I think he's talking about 8th note jack-hammers.

People have been playing SN2 in Japan for a while now. We won't be seeing X stateside for maybe six months, so... I guess they're basically putting out one new release every 2ish years.
And oh man Phylicia I'm so glad there's no visual lag. That was gonna piss me off lol.
I don't know if anyone already said this, but I was talking to kevinddr the other night and he was saying that the US machines are terrible but the JPN version is amazing.

I thought this thread already debunked any hopes of this game being good, but apparently no one found these gems:
Horatio is interesting conceptually (makes you "dance") but fails in execution due to the steps being so awkward.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEbqFfL6svo&feature=related
Butterfly Oni copypaste lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RA8khMmK3RA&feature=related
Saber Win EX is terrible... Copypaste city
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoC0zrRs8mM&feature=related
Paranoia MAX Dirty mix SSMwhatever is just completely random
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2uuinKNVrA&NR=1
xmix5 overcrush is another chart that encompasses what happens when DDR tries to be ITG. I think it's better summed up by:
(7:34:34 PM) NaokiS4R: OMG
(7:35:15 PM) NaokiS4R: what's funnier in your opinion
(7:35:18 PM) NaokiS4R: the music or the steps
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EoHBfi9DExk&feature=related
Trigger is another one of these stupid gimmick speed charts where the only real difficulty comes from memorizing the speed changes which only make sense some of the time. I think a funnier observation could be that the music was written for the steps, not the other way around. There are more than a few charts like that in DDR now, thanks to the need to make things "difficult".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pj0IFKGwy6U&NR=1
I bet I can find even more terrible / inconsistent / thoughtless crap like this if you really want me to. DDR X is not a good game. That's all there is to it.

Nowhere did I say it didn't have crap. The stuff I've played was fun, had the machine been synced.
Therefore, since it has fun songs on it (and I've played them) I consider it a good game worth playing, if the sync/pads didn't suck.
Bravo at finding stepcharts that suck??

I'm trying to establish that the overall level of quality of DDR X originals is lower than that of previous DDR games, I never said there weren't good charts. I've seen at least one. I'd like to see more, the game so far is pretty depressing.
