I couldn't find a way to do it, but is it somehow possible to set an ITG 2 cabinet to $1 per play for 1 player, but only $1.50 for a doubles game?
On a related note, does hacking an ITG cabinet give the operator more options like this, or does hacking a machine primarily just affect the themes and songs within the game?

there's no reason to charge more for doubles play

doubles should be $1.00 and single should be $2.00

It uses up both pads, preventing 2 paying customers from playing at the same time.
That was easy.

Paying customers aside, it incurs higher maintenance costs; a lot more force is exerted on the pads when you're hitting more panels, so you get a higher average cost per credit.

i'd say less than 10% of itg players ever play versus mode.

I'd say less than 10% of an arcades' volume is serious players. Most traffic comes from casual passerby's which will most likely come in groups (arcades are social places) and then play versus mode.

This is even more reason to charge more for doubles mode. If singles mode doesn't cost more, you're losing potential money, end of story.
If there wouldn't be a person on the other side, you're wasting resources.
If there would be a person on the other side, you're slowing intake (likely reducing it)

So...um, back on track.
Is it possible to charge $1 for singles and $1.50 for doubles on an ITG2 cabinet? If not, does a hacked ITG2 machine get more options related to this?

No. You can charge 75 cents and $1.50, though. Hacking the machine will not change this.

Maybe we should find a way to charge people for shadowing, because whether or not its in 2 player mode, someone is still stomping on the panels.

And charge 'em more than the person playing so they stop doing it

I agree that shadowers are annoying, but charging someone to not play the game just sounds all kinds of wrong.

Alternatively, you could just hide in a cardboard box sitting by the machine and pop out and punch anyone who starts shadowing without asking first.
I'd play at an arcade like that all the time.

Holy crap, your arcade sounds more like the Thunderdome from Mad Max 3 than an arcade. Sign me up!
