I've been somewhat concerned about the intensity ramp up in the song as well and think I'm going to take out the first 16th piano run and replace it with much slower chords to prepare the listener that there will be piano in this Disconnected without obliterating them only 16 measures in. I'm also going to completely overhaul the dynamic tempo change. While I do like the concept of the tempo change near the beginning, it is currently repetitive and contrived. However, in some ways I'm intentionally trying to mix old and new with this mix by having a very clear cut Disconnected sound with borderline 90's synth leads that progress later into a more streamlined pseudo-classical feel. This is a very rough sketch and there are definitely parts I'm not happy with (not the least of which the actual volume itself), but I assure you that the final version WILL have evilly fast piano runs in it, but they'll probably be more concentrated in the later half for that sense of progression that a lot of songs have in rhythm games.

Also, at this speed, this is definitely 14 calibur. Definitely. It's 205 for most of the song, and assuming simple noncrossover noncandle runs, that's still a very, very respectable 14. If the stepper was sadistic and filled the runs with candle steps like Pandemonium and made it quite jumpy and technical in the slower places, you might even be able to squeak out an easy 15, but I think this song naturally wants to be a 14

Also, 70 songs!

We are about two thirds to my goal. From there we will cut down and edit into a single organic setlist of awesome! I will only be accepting about 40 more suggestions in order to make editting a much more viable task, so if you really have songs, artists, or even styles you want on the list, now is the time to speak up! We have a lot of famous artists anda lot of returning ITG artists, so now might be a good time to put on our collective "hipster" caps and get some music that maybe other people haven't heard or haven't thought of. Maybe get a video game remix or a great DJ that isn't super famous in America for who knows what reason. Pick whatever you want, surely, but now is everyone's chance to put their own individual spice on the setlist. Spice it up guys!

Bwa ha ha. I only listen to anime music, video game soundtracks, and early 2000's electronica. I have nothing interesting to offer towards this conversation.

^ I came to basically post the same thing, only replace video game soundtracks with k-pop.  I also listen to oldies and jazz standards, but I doubt any of us would half an eighth of the patience and skill it would take to sync a chart to either of those.

80 songs, almost there guys!

While I'll admit jazz standards would be a nightmare and a half to cut and sync, you shouldn't just assume that the music you listen to wouldn't work well with the game or that nobody would like it. Worst thing that could happen is that it doesn't make the final cut, and I think it's good to have some tracks that break out of the mold. Variety = spice of life!

Here's a more polished (and louder) version of Disconnected Inferno, complete with a more viable difficulty ramp up as opposed to lawl 16th runs super early in, though there still are lawl 16th runs  =P. I still think it should come out to a 14 probably

Well, if you insist:

The Blues Brothers - Peter Gunn Theme

I f*cking LOVE the Blues Brothers.

Also...OMG, it's Mega Man music!

I could see this as a pretty damn challenging chart (ala DragonForce style)
http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR02070/

I'd also make some music suggestions from Contra, but Komani would sue.

Looking at the list, we're looking really good on difficulty balance. Obviously no charts have been written yet (and the song list isn't even done in any way), but taking the energy, rhythm, and tempo of the songs, we have a really good mix of difficulty.

Roughly 12% of these are fast and relentless enough for a 13 rating or higher

Roughly 38% of these feel like they would land in the 11 to 12 range

And that leaves roughly HALF to fall in the 9 to 10 range.

Obviously these are guesstimates just by listening to the song, and the difficulty is in the hands of the step chart artists primarily, but a song like Against Gilgamesh or Kidney Stone is pretty much guaranteed to be a lot harder than The Sailor Song, Caribbean Blue, or Spotlights Go Dark.

Whether we ever get this project done or not, I am fairly proud of how this song list is coming together. It's beginning to look like an ITG song list, not just a random pack

Another song that might fit well and already has a weird and unique chart is the chart for Haven by SGX I submitted for the first S.P.E.R.G.I.N.  It is super late and would obviously have to be resynced, but that could be a thing.  It is here.  If it's a bit too gimmicky we could probably tone it down a bit.

I'm not really thinking charts right now. A lot of these songs have charts because, frankly, the community has stepped everything worth stepping more or less. This pack is supposed to be professional, fleshed out single AND double, and all around great feeling step chart wise. Take Peak1.1 for example. I know it is one of the god-awfully impossible Tachyon packs and thus has been done before, but the charts in those packs are hard for hard sake and are often there to push the envelope and often follow rhythms that aren't necessarily merited in the song in order to increase difficulty. My idea of Peak 1.1 is more like an 11 as opposed to the 14 chart in Tachyon.

No, for now we are looking at songs. I'll put Haven up there because SGX is legit, and we MAY use large portions of the chart, but for the most part I'm not thinking specific charts but more chart potential.

Robert Mile's Children is possibly the first electronica song I ever fell in love with. There are many versions out there which are shorter/more upbeat, but I didn't find them on Youtube (I have them as MP3 though).

ÓI¸Ú

I can't Stop Raving:
Dune - Can't Stop Raving

Really, it's just perfect for dancy games.

Techno Water Rave:
DJ Venom- Water Rave Techno Remix

If you're looking for some classical music with some dance beats to it.

I don't know if this is already in DDR, but I think it could make a sweet stepchart.
In the Night Life
Cyndi Lauper - Into The Nightlife

ATC-All Around the World
Imagine the spins! 360's FTW!
ATC - All Around The World (la la la la la la la la)

Amber- This is your night
(96) Amber- This is your night/NEW 2008 Version OUT 02/12/08

Edit: If you're wondering why I suddenly have so many suggestions, it's because I just browsed through my electronica folder on my PC and threw up any song that I felt would be fitting for a stepchart.

Here's a real oddball suggestion. It's a jazzy song, but it's synth, so it wouldn't shouldn't be hard to sync.
Sim City 3000 - OST - Central Park Sunday

Another jazzy song from SC3k
SimCity 3000 - Night Life

SoundTemp (Ragnarok Online)-Rose of Sharon
Ragnarok BGM 105 - Rose Of Sharon

SoundTemp (Ragnarok Online) - Through the Tower
Ragnarok Online - Through the Tower

Thanks to my obsession, my girlfriend suggesting songs through me, and Scott's recent song dump, WE ARE REACHING CRITICAL MASS!

If there's a song you would absolutely LOVE to put into the mix, suggest it now or forever hold your peace. We are winding down on song suggestions and will soon start editing it down to the song list. Remember, it's not the end of the world if you don't suggest something in time because you can always just make a simfile of your song for the fun of it anyway, but if you REALLY WANT to have something featured in this pack, then NOW is your last(ish) chance to suggest songs.

Remember, this is the fun part! Come join in on the fun and put your creative stamp on the new ITG!

Thi sis obviously already in PiU and I didn't know if you want to use songs that have been in PiU. I know that Rebirth and ITG3 both used songs that had already been used in that series...

Digital Explosion - With You

Crispy - DJ Santa

Why  not have a Christmas-themed song?

Caramel Dansen (Slow Version)
Caramelldansen slow version (Embedding disabled, limit reached)
Everyone has written a stepchart for the speedy version, but this slow version could make a really catchy and fun chart that sticks out from the rest. Plus, everyone loves this song! It can be like our version of dragostea din tei from rebirth (or was it ITG3?)

Yeah, I've put up most of the returning ITG artist songs up there. I'm definitely for artists like Digital Explosion and stuff, but I can't accept Virtual Emotion because it appeared in ITG3.

I can accept remixes of songs that have already appeared in ITG mixes, but even though ITG3 was never officially released, I can't have two of the same song from ITG 1, 2, 3, Rebirth, or Rebirth 2. I have absolutely no problems taking songs from PiU because 5-panel is NOT the same gameplay as 4-panel, and thus it is always nice to try that out. I think I have at least one PiU song in here, but I definitely haven't memorized this list as it is extensive and is constantly changing/growing

Girls Aloud - The Show

Jim's Big Ego - Stress
Cowboy Bebop AMV - Stress (Embedding disabled, limit reached)
This song is AWESOME and the step chart could be epic like Mongolian Grill or Baby Seal. Also, this music video is pretty cool.

Hamsters - Hamster Dance(techno remix) (Embedding disabled, limit reached)
It's FREAKIN HAMSTER DANCE!

Orgy - Stitches
Orgy - ''Stitches'' (OFFICIAL Video) HD (Embedding disabled, limit reached)
Think of a stepchart similar to "Not Worth the Paper".

The Captain Picard Song

We are approaching DOUBLE the amount of songs that ITG2 has.

As far as I'm concerned, we definitely have enough suggestions. I'll keep suggestions open until the end of the week in case you REALLY think of somethings that you just need to have in the pack, but for the most part I think we're about done with stage 1a.

Stage 1 being the song list of course with 1a being mass song candidates and 1b being the editing to the final list

As of right now, song suggestions are closed!

Somewhere hiding in that list of 129 songs is the new ITG song list. Hurray!

Before we start trying to edit it down to a MUCH more manageable number to work on for a mix, I'm thinking I'm going to walk through them and label songs on "potential difficulty" of easy, medium, hard, or boss. I'm intentionally not going to be giving set numbers like 9 or 10 because a song's difficulty is at the creative license of the stepper, but I will be thinking about the tempo, rhythmic complexity, and overall drive of each song to give it an easy, medium, hard, or boss rating. For songs that I feel could swing either way, I will be listing BOTH difficulties i.e. Hard/Boss.

The reason that I am trying to find all the "difficulty potential" of the songs is because I want there to be a balanced hierarchy of difficulty in our mix. I feel that is important for gameplay reasons. I want (roughly) 1 - 3% boss, 9 - 12% hard, 35 - 40% medium, and 45 - 55% easy songs. I think that makes a good pyramid. Remember, this pack isn't designed to push players to their physical limitations, EVERY other pack's job (obvious exaggeration) seems to be doing that. Our goal is to be a spiritual successor.

So, Over the next bit of time, I will be evaluating difficulty potentials. This will make it easier for all of us to balance what we personally like and what we think we need in the mix

Declaring something a BOSS song vs a MEDIUM or something IS very subjective. Instead, I would use a scale of intensity. A song like My Summer Love would be LOW intensity and something like Chromatic Blitz would be VERY HIGH. If you listen to Midnight Blaze, it's got a high intensity and COULD actually be written as a decent 10/11 step chart, but in DDR it's simply an 8. Just be careful with this because you could be pidgeon-holing certain songs into a certain category already by doing this.

I may use your terms instead, but realistically I see it as a semantic issue. DDR doesn't effectively have an equivalent to Expert difficulty in ITG (Oni/Challenge is really not a good comparison for a few reasons) and thus Midnight Blaze being an 8 makes sense if you think of that as the Hard chart, and yes, it could definitely merit a 10 or 11 as an Expert chart.

Also, I'm not trying to pigeon hole songs or dictate difficulty (which is a good reason why your terms are in fact better), but I am trying to make people think of gameplay when editing it down to a final song list. For some, they might only like super intense songs, and others might only like pop, but that will only end up with song lists that are either focused solely on hard or easy charts.

But, all that talk aside, your terms probably ARE better

Thanks for the open discussion. I don't want to derail your project and I think you're right, I'm arguing over semantics here. I'll be waiting until the next phase commences.

I know I said that song suggestions were closed, but I just stumbled upon a much more approachable and chiller remix of Tsugihagi Construction

Tsugihagi is easily one of my favorite songs from Rebirth 2, we really don't have a lot of remixes of older ITG songs so it wouldn't seem like pure laziness, and it's still fun and high energy (it's still like 190ish BPM as opposed to the blitzingly fast 240 BPM of the original)

I'll be the first person to say that the ending of this remix is quite annoying, but seeing as it's 3:17, I can and would easily cut it down to an appropriate ITG length while still giving it a logical ending place song structure wise.

So, even though I said song suggestions are closed, would anyone begrudge me this last one? It would put us at an even 130
