February 28, 2007, 01:16:15 PM - ORIGINAL POST -

We all know Illusionz closed down, and apparently, all the machines are going up for auction. A Drummania 5th and Guitar Freaks 6th will be on the auction list. I believe there will be a Guitar Freaks 6th up for auction.

How much should I pay (maximum bid) for the Guitar Freaks? It's in good condition, I've played on it before, no problems with the guitars/sound/screen anything like that.

How much would it cost to upgrade it to anything newer? I know you need a special hardware upgrade for V onwards. How much would a 10th mix run? Would it be near impossible to get?

Thanks!!

Where did you hear about an auction? Didn't know this was confirmed.

The GF controllers have seen better days, btw.

I didn't see them before they were embalmed, so to speak, but I think one of the sides had a good guitar, and the other's was incredibly loose.

Also, you are aware that their DM5th is like, pretty ramshackle and has a broken hi-hat and whatnot?  Though, you honestly could get the kit and then fix it on your own without too much; Bill Masterman might even be able to procure parts for you (for a fee of course).  I'm certain that's along the lines of what Metroid is thinking anyways...

Yeah, the DM is a fixer-upper at best. Not real worried about parts, in fact, I have left overs from my Yamaha DTX that would probably work as a frankenstein. Guess we'll see!

I would like to know about the auction too.  I wouldn't mind buying there Pop'n Music machine and some other stuff.  Please either post the details or PM them to me please.

Not sure when it's happening exactly.. a guy posted on the penny arcade forums that he talked to the guy that owned illusionz, and right now all the machines are under bankruptcy control.. He was going to post more info as to where/when they were going to be auctioned off.

There's all the penny-arcade talk. For some reason they're all interested in Gauntlet (ugh) or the MvC2. No one serious, though. Sounds like there's finally some semi-verifiable information regarding bankruptcy as well. Too bad :(

If it's a public auction, that would be pretty sweet. Can't wait!

edit: Got a grand, eh Colin? Have you ever moved on of these things before? They're a beast, man! Good luck getting back up into Canadia :O

I guess I'll keep my eye on the auction.  I have some savings...

Well, I do think it would be pricey to get that cabinet to Canada.  But, I dunno, it is only over land, and only about 2-3 hours so at least that's nice.  Might need to rent an expensive truck to move it though... but you should definitely look into that, Colin.

Hmm.. I guess it wouldn't fit in the back of a pickup eh?  And U-Hauls around here are pretty cheap anyways.

See if Magic Mike will tell you about whether or not the machines will fit in the back of a pickup truck.  I personally think, if you want to ship it properly, U-Haul will be necessary.
