ORIGINAL THREAD WAS HERE: http://www.pnwbemani.net/bemani-discussion/pnw-simfiles/30/
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I figured I'd make a thread for those of us in the PNW who've made custom stepcharts. I'd like to see local charts posted here for download, review, sharing, and (hopefully constructive) criticism. I'd also like to see any custom charts from local tournaments eventually get posted to this thread too. I look forward to seeing what everyone has to offer.

I'll start things off by sharing two some charts I've recently written.

Update: You can find all my charts at http://techno-hut.com/download/suko_stepcharts/

I've been thinking about writing something and releasing it for a while...guess I'll have to do it then!

Also, if people write charts with full Easy/Normal/Hard/Expert steps, I'd gladly install them on the Acme ITG.

I'm planning on having my GF write the easy charts to give her some practice. Also, I might get my buddies to write doubles charts for them. That's why I wrote versions on the banners. I was sick of not knowing which version of a stepchart I had or was going to play. This mostly presented a problem with Rebirth release 1 vs Release 2 and the multitude of releases of ITG3.

Just curious, has anyone checked out the stepcharts I posted? I wanted to know what you all think. I'm wanting to get better at this, so is there any criticism you'd like to give?

Suko,  your charts alright with some pretty neat ideas. They just need refinement.
Super Driver is definitely better than Stamp On the Ground.

Stamp On the Ground has some pretty neat ideas, but it just seems awkwards sometimes.

Quads are always hard to implement into a chart nicely. Having 4 of them come one after the other every quater note can get annoying. Also the holds with hands are nice, but sometimes it becomes too much.
I get the whole idea because its "stamp on the ground" so why not have the player hit the ground, right? I'd just go back and maybe take out the quads and leave one or something. but yeah......nice videos! did you make the one for stamp on?

I like both charts. The hard charts seem better honestly, but ok job with the challenge charts.

Also a tip when making charts. Actually stand up and play the chart. You know like not REALLY play the chart, but just kind of move a little to get a feel for what it might actually be like when playing on your feet. It helps me a lot.

Keby, thanks for the input. Before I read what you have here, I made an upgraded version of the charts you played. I've re-uploaded them and the links should be to the newer files now.

I would love to write back to you regarding your suggestions, but I had my wisdom teeth pulled today and I just don't feel like making my brain work much. I'll catch up soon regarding this.

Paramore - Misery Business

EleventySeven - Love In Your Arms

Paramore won a simfile content, the other is just ok. Both are DDR paddable style charts.

Also we had a thread like this a long time ago... which I linked to in the original post. Smiley

I did a search and didn't find anything. Mostly 'cause searching for custom song or stepchart just brings up 1000 posts related to the Acme ITG machine.

I've got a pack in the works right now.

I thought I'd be nice enough to give people a song list sample so far

Blue Horizon - S.S.H.
Final de la Danza de la Horas - Amilcare Ponchielli
Laughing Gas - Neon Indian
Put A Donk On It - Blackout Crew
Timepiece Phase II - Jimmy Weckl
Tutti Frutti - Little Richard
Get up Offa That Thing - James Brown
The Girl and the Robot (Spencer & Hill Mix) - Royksopp
Unholy Grail - Alex Kidd(USA)

and some more to come as well.
I'm planning on getting this pack done by august with full banners and backgrounds. Maybe not all difficulties, but I'll try

Here's a new one I just made. It's from Smile.DK's Party Around the World album. It's a catchy song and was begging for a good chart. In typical fashion, I've made two charts. One is a moderate to difficult 9, the other is an easy 6. I'm in the process of making a doubles chart, but since I've never stepped doubles before, I'm starting with a wimpy standard chart first. I've tested these on my machine and didn't notice any glaring issues, so please check it out and let me know what you think!

(I've also updated my original post to include this as one of my "collection")

I have ideas for lots of charts but they're mostly bemani songs.
Also, I'd like to make a full set of single charts to my old files before I ask to put them on the machine.  Most of them only have one chart.

OOOOOLD sticky to reply to, but then I just checked your SOTG sim. Not bad tbh. Some of it doesn't seem bang on, but then most of it's fun.
I worked on the same thing, although I need to get a rip of a shorter version from a flash video, and get the video in a stepmania usable format. Never did finish it, but then I get bored like that.

I did the same thing. I started working on it over a year before I ended up finishing it. I've actually been refining all of these simfiles over the last few months, but haven't released an updated version yet. Keep an eye on this thread, hopefully in the next few weeks I'll put the "final" versions of these out. I want to put them behind me so I can focus on some new charts. =D

Oh hey guys.
There's been a lot of changes to the pack, but I'm actually done with all the expert charts so far.

Working on finishing all difficulties.
Also working on a 24 minute marathon song.

Speaking of Air Gear, here's the serie's intro song, Chain. It only has the Hard chart completed at the moment, but I'm hoping to get the rest done soon.

It's nice to see a thread like this up! I had to ask everyone if they've seen or have the VerTeX song that has the reverse BPM runs in it? (pretty much reverses the song at certain points making it near impossible to pass unless you memorize it)

I'm working on a simfile for everyone's enjoyment soon Smiley

Tuan and I tried that same V3 song at Acme, but only some of the reverse bpm seemed to work. Other parts lagged (like the beginning and middle) to the point of being even less playable than normal. lol

Hmm.. Finished a short little video game chart

Lunar by AzureVixen
Singles: ( 2 / 4 / 7 )

Link for download~
Video cutscene included. Thought it might be potentially usable as a Sakuracon'11 Pack song along with a couple others, if we plan on doing something like last year  Wink

Edit: Thanks for the feedback. Modifying the image was easy, but I apparently can't just plug in the smaller bpm number without re-modifying the whole song.. So I'll look into that. Presently on the fence about adding an Expert chart.

I'll get into more detail about it later since I have to run off to school, but not bad Dr. Z!
First thing I'll say right now is that you should cut the BPM in half. 222 doesn't seem appropriate for a song with such a gentle melody to it.

Edit: Alright. First off cut the bpm in half. No biggie but I definitely would. Fits the song better.

I honestly think there should be more arrows. Even though it is a hard chart it's okay to add in my gallops and triplets. Try to keep a recurrent pattern going on through out the song rather than having one idea here then another here and then another there.
it's good to build up some patterns on top of each other throughout songs.

FYI, ITG banner size is 418 x 164. It's not a big deal, because it still looks fine, but I thought I should mention it.

http://www.stepmania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17235

Also, I used Any Video Converter to reduce the size of your video file. I generally reduce mine to 400x300 pixels and to a bitrate of <512. I also strip out the audio (since it's unnecessary for a BG video). I was able to reduce your original video from 12mb to 5.5mb.

http://www.any-video-converter.com/download-avc-free.php

Regarding the chart: Not too shaby. I don't know if this is one of your first charts or not, but I did notice a couple places that I felt I had to double-step. Either that, or you intend the player to do some (kind of) funky 360/reversals. Try to make sure the player isn't forced to double step without it being intentional. The best way to check for this is to assume that they will not use the same foot twice in a row (gallops are excluded from this rule).

Example: In measure 51 - 62 of your chart, the player generally will be hitting the UP (^) roll with their left foot if they did the previous sequence correctly. From that, you have them go into a diagonal jump (V >) which they should be positioned to hit with their right foot on the DOWN and their left foot on the RIGHT. This causes a problem with the following sequence of steps, assuming you don't double-step anything. Either that, or this was an intentionally complex 360 setup.

However, i think I'm being a bit too harsh about this, because it is a simple song without too many steps, it's not hard to switch foot and correct yourself on this chart. If you do get into making more intense charts with a greater step density, please keep this in mind.

Also, I don't know if I'd rate this a 7. It's closer to a 5 or a 6 IMO. I definitely think you could write a more challenging chart for it that would be a solid 8 and perhaps a 9. Maybe give it a try sometime. All-in-all, not bad work. Also, I agree with Keby about cutting the BPM by half. 220bpm is a bit fast for a peaceful song like this.
