What kind of shoes do you guys wear when you play DDR, and does it affect your play at all?
I have DDR shoes that are very lightweight and thin soled, but they are beating the crap out of my knees now that I'm attempting harder stuff. However, I like the thin sole, as it makes them flexible and easier to heel/toe.
So, what are YOU wearing?

I currently just got some Asic's about 2 days ago and they seriously are wonderful and they feel GRRRREAT! Puma's can suck it =P
What kind did you get? I'm probably going to pick up their Nimbus shoe just to have when my current ones run out. Also to fulfill the dragonball nerd inside me

I got the Gel Pheonix I believe, Its white/lightning/gold. I'm also going to pick up some "cool" socks that keep your feet at a certain temperature. If it the socks do work, then no more of my feet having to suffer when I do streamy stuff. It'll go nicely with the Asics
Its awesome T_T

After hearing so much positive things about Asics, I decided to browse, try on, and buy my own pair. I got the Asics Gel-Maverick 3 today at a steal of a deal! I looked at shoe weight as a key factor as my Nike Kobe Zoom IV were 11oz each, but these are even lighter.
Running my first sets in them today, I see clear consistent improvement of performance, and quick adjustment. Might I add they keep my feet very cool in temperature!! Very comfortable also! They're definitely my new ItG shoe. They may not look like it, but these papooses clock in at only 9.00oz a pop! I felt great supporting a company who's product is amazing with such reasonable prices.

hahaha yes! I kept thinking of the nimbus cloud when looking at the shoe! How are those?
As far as previous mentions of Nike Free's. I had a pair of 5.0 (that i use at the gym) but for ITG, the broken multi peice bottom sole design of the Nike Free, though aiding in flexibility, greatly hampers movement. I got my shoes caught on the metal panels numerously playing even just 9s and 10s. Keeping those for the gym only, and my new Asics for the dance floor.

The nimbus' are fantastic. Just my preference. I absolutely love having bottom support on my shoes which is why I love asics. The are great for this.
Keeps my feet cool (until I start beasting 14 and 15's haha it's kinda hard for my feet to stay cool after that hahaha)
I'm glad you like your asics!!

Nike Frees 5.0 or 7.0s. I basically swear by them when it comes to dancing games.

I have an awesome pair, though they have smooth soles, which could be awkward. Don't think I've played with them. I'll need to try it sometime.
I haven't prepped to play dance games in forever, so I've ended up wearing semi-dress shoes recently and doing not great.

I just saw these new shoes over on NewBalance.com and thought they might actually make a pretty light weight didder shoe!
http://www.shopnewbalance.com/men/shoes/lifestyle-and-retro/MW01GW?filterSize=15
Also, be aware that NB is phasing out the model 993 and replacing it with a rebuild of the original model 990. I believe the new model is referred to as 990v3.

I'm using a pair of 990v3's as of last Friday. For arrow stomping, they're just as grippy and stable as 993's, but weigh less. The sole is disturbingly springy out of the box, but once they break in, they're just lightweight 993's. They are ever so slightly more narrow, though.

I noticed they have a plastic plate smack in the middle of the sole. Have you ever had this land on a screw or something while playing, causing your foot to unexpectedly slide a bit?
I have a pair of 1010's that have a similar thing (more plastic though) and this happened to me often enough to make me stop using them for dance games.

I picked up
these
about a month ago and they are fantastic (despite being labelled a walking/recovery shoe). I have no idea if there are arguments about which minimus is ideal, but all the models seem to be really light and flexible, so you probably can't go too far wrong.

With 5 Dragonforce 15s and all the 14s passed for the first time (for me) on these and tremendous flexibility allowing complete mastery of bracket stomps, I highly recommend my current shoe, which I've bought twice now (in different colors):
http://www.shop.puma.com/Faas-300-Running-Shoes/pna185094,en_US,pd.html&cgid=23200#!i%3D21%26color%3D24
You can find them at the Puma store in Bellevue.

I prefer to play with a simple Airwalk or Vans style skateboard shoe. I have noticed whenever I try to use running shoes, I do not get the weight necessary to hit certain sensors (sometimes this is affected by the machine's condition). The flat style of a skateboard shoe works for me by distributing the weight evenly over the four sensors in each arrow.
