Ok, I've been reading 10k Commotion for years now and all I can say is WTF mate?

The comic started off really good, then kept it going with a pretty good intensity. However, somewhere around 7th to 9th stage it seems like Yukon (the artist) just started rushing it. I remember at the beginning of the comic they would describe how each player would play each song of the set. Towards the end of the series the comic seems to just ignore the technical aspects of the game completely. For Jevus's sake, in the final rounds of the 10k tournament, they cover three sets of competitions on 1 or 2 pages...WTF!?

I'm mostly writing this because I haven't seen any discussions about 10k Commotion. What started off as a great comic for a niche community has been all but forgotten and abandoned by the one who created it...sad.

Anybody else have an opinion on 10k Commotion or on what it has become?

Heh, I was just reading it for the first time.  I like the censoring methods.

"Sure, they're nice people or whatever but they're gonna try to [poke us firmly in the behinds] to get the grand prize!"

Also, lol at DDRMAX2 being something fancy and new and FC'ing Matsuri Japan being an accomplishment. ;P

10k has been around for years.. I can't even remember when I started reading it (prolly shortly before Extreme came out). A nice throwback to a more elegent DDR from a more civilized age. Not as clumsy or random as an ITG.

Yuu has aparently been swallowed whole by real life as she hasn't even posted to her LJ in months.

That was back when Yasu and Take were the best and basically the only ones AAAing hard songs.

This comic was indeed from a different era for the dancing games. One that I feel, as Schlagwerk said, was perhaps the golden age for our community. Sigh, good times.

Oh yeah, the golden age for our community that is less than a decade old has come and gone. I admire your optimism.

edit: And it was an age exemplified by a very, very silly comic. Point is, SAKURA NO MODS ARE YOU READY FOR THE CHALLENGE

If you read the more recent parts, look at what it's saying.

Basically, it's depicting the past predicting the present.  I can't remember the words exactly, but it's basically, "Okay, by this time next year, we'll be looking at nothing but AAA's 99% of the time from a bunch of the final teams.  Winning will depend on error, not skill, so this is the last time we're doing this, 'KAY GAIZ?!~ ^^v"

I don't know, it's kind of deep, kind of out there, fun, well-made, et cetera.  I don't see what people are complaining about it for.  I observed some minor changes between beginning and end, which were basically the difference between Dynamite being able to AAA anything under an 8 consistently and Dynamite being able to AAA anything consistently.  Trying to have a comic about a video game, ANY VIDEO GAME, is just kind of silly, since it'll be outdated before it's finished.

I wasn't saying the comic sucks now. What I was getting at was that I feel she is really starting to rush it. She used to take 4-5 pages to show two people play one set of songs and gave explanations about their styles. Now she sums up 3 sets of songs at the 10k tournament, the climax of the story, in less than a page. It just seems like the story is just trying to get done as fast as possible...which I'm sure is exactly what is happening.

I think at one point during the production, the DDR scene died.

So she probably made a decision to change the story to how the golden age of DDR was "about to die" (since this was only 3 weeks after the story started, like, 4 years ago) instead of how DDR was HxC.  So, it became less about the gameplay and more about explaining what was happening to DDR and where Konami's thought process was going at the time.  I would like to point out, however, that after reading it, no song took 4-5 pages.  A couple took 3, but most of what occured there was dialogue.  Certainly, for the hardcore DDR nerds, we're more concerned with the exact scores/combos/where'd he get the flag/et cetera, but for the average reader, they're gonna be more concerned about the character development.  This is also nothing unique to 10k.  This is a feeling everyone gets after a few years of reading a webcomic from the start.  Really, you're changing more than the comic is.  Don't let it get to you though.
