Yeah, it is. They have more racing and fighting cabinets instead now.

Is it still extremely warm and uncomfortable at CHQ? Is there still a staff guy whose sole purpose is to push in the DM drum throne, wipe screens, and tell people to stop sitting at unused machines?

I gotta make a trip up to Vancouver soon.

There's still an older staff guy after about 10pm who's always very disinterested in being there, but I've never seen him do anything outside of the main counter.

Yes, it is still warm, however it's easy to cool off with soda/juice from the pizza place almost next door (which surprisingly has pretty tasty pizza too - at least compared to pagliacci).

Just visited. DDR X3 vs 2nd Mix is in decent shape. Costs $1 CDN per game (3 songs).

Itg2 looked in decent shape, but the coin slot was taped up, so I couldn't play it. It costs 3 tokens yo play.

The ITG2 was taped up when I went to CHQ in early September.

That's not a good sign.

I visited Vancouver this weekend and my group of old-fart DDR players (and Keby, too) went to CHQ on Sunday to check it out.

Honestly, it's doing alright over there. I heard anecdotally from a local player (his name is Steve) that the previous owner of CHQ died sometime last year. Apparently there was a few years between 2013 and 2016 where the ITG machine was flat-out unused and basically offline. However, with the passing of the old owner the new management/owner got the ITG machine back up and running.

The ITG2 machine was working fine. Although my USB didn't work, other people were using theirs. I suspect it might be running stepmania, hence why my ITG2 formatted profile didn't load. They have the pads flush-modded and I was getting all kinds of false-hits due to this. However, they were playing on it just fine as were some of the less-heavy players in my group.

The DDR machine is setup as DDR X3 vs 2nd Mix. The right side wasn't great. I kept getting stuck arrows on the 2P Right and Up arrows. The left side played much better for me, although some of my friends said they had trouble getting the arrows to register.

In short; the dance games are working well enough. How well they will work for YOU depends mostly on your weight. Heavy players like me get one form of an issue and light players get other kinds of issues.

Either way, if you're in Vancouver, I'd check this place out. It's pretty cool and feels a bit like a small Japanese arcade.

I'm sorry about that.  I volunteered to fix the machine, but was swamped.  The owner died during the wait.  I wish he had been able to see it up and running.

The two were unrelated.  I wanted to fix it before I moved, to deliver on a promise.

It's stock r21mix, In The Groove.  Not even OpenITG.

Yeah, some of the players think they know what they are doing with modding machines.

Eh, everyone has their own "sweet spot". I see it all the time down here. Well, I used to. I really only play on my own machine anymore. However, my "sweet spot" is NOT going to be as sensitive as a player who's half my size. Someone who weighs 150 lbs is going to want the pads a lot more sensitive than someone like myself, who would find myself constantly triggering them on accident.

The easy solution is for everyone to just buy their own machines and do whatever the f*ck they want. =D
