I noticed Bemanistyle post about this...
http://www.bemanistyle.com/index.php/news/ddr-us-championship-website-updated-for-2010-tournament-1857
The 2010 championships are coming up, but instead of being ran at Gameworks, they are being held by arcades/people who sign up to run it. Submissions go on until the end of september for it.
Would be a good opportunity. for the PNW Community to organize something.

Their tournament site is terribly broken right now.
I don't even see any information regarding machines/mixes that the tournament will be using.
I'd be willing to organize and host this at a willing location if we wanted to hold our first round tournament at the end of September (end of round 1). I don't see any reasons for doing it sooner; but if we do it sooner I won't be able to help with the organization/planning.

I was thinking of calling up Gameworks.... If that would be a good idea or not.

Excellent! I'm thrilled to see this return again!
Yes, let's ask Bill or Bobby to get registered. I think these two are the only two operators we know who would be totally for this event. Also, if there's enough players here in the PNW, having a north and south location to play might not be too bad of an idea.
Tournament Location Registration Page:
http://www.ddruschampionship.com/partner_reg.html
Edit: I would volunteer to run as one of the organizers, but I'm sure that could cause trouble, because I would also want to compete. Soooooo, perhaps Laura or Jon?
EDIT^2: I'm still peeved that they never did anything with the interview footage of me at the tournament. What a drag, I could've been a star! *_*

Jon: If you want to run it in September, I'm happy to either help you OR enter the tournament. Realistically, though, I'm not gonna place so I might as well assist
It's often difficult to get ACME on board with tournaments, but maybe they'd be willing to bend for a tournament that has been officially sanctioned by the makers of the game?

I was coming here to start a thread about this, and it's already started! :-)
Anyway, I recieved a phone call from a Konami representative that said we had already been picked, and would we provide a host cabinet and location. He then mentions that they have already picked a location as they have been investigating awhile now. There pick is narrows, for whatever reason. Asked about what mix it needs to be on, and he did not know, but was thinking SN as that is what they already knew was at Narrows. He says they want a better tourney this year, on well maintained stages. The GW saga last yaer is what I'm sure they want to avoid.
Jon, would you like to admin? They are mailing the info packet soon, and I can pass it along to you.
Thanks,
Bill

Cool! It would be cool if Konami allowed SN2 for the event, since its basically a better version of SN.

Wow they contacted you!
I'm honestly a little surprised by that, but so incredibly gald to hear they came to you first.
I have very high hopes this tournament will go very very well compared to last years.
And yes Scott. I challenge you to SUDDEN DEATH!

I'd gladly admin the tournament! Glad to hear Konami seems to be getting their stuff together this time, and know who to contact.
I will be getting married the End of August, so as long as nobody has a problem with it being after the 13th of September, then I can admin with no problem.
And since we've worked well together in the past, I'll invite Laura to help admin it as well.
Unless Laura changes her mind and wants to enter.

I imagine the marvelous timing vs non-marvelous timing in SN1 would cause some debates over the net. I know I pwn scores on SN2 more 'cause of the benefit of marvelous timing.
Also, I wish I had something other than Extreme up north to practice on for this tournament. I know it's highly unlikely that it'll be held on DDR Extreme since it was never licensed for the US.

That shouldn't be an issue if they're just taking the top people per arcade/region... It doesn't matter if you won on SN or SN2; as you still won and can compete on whatever machine it is on the next round.

More information from Bemanistyle:
Quote
Tournament organizers who have registered their locations for participation in the 2010 DDR US Championships have started receiving information about the tournament. Below is an updated version of what we have gathered from reading through the documents.
Round One – These are tournaments locations that have been registered through the website by tournament administrators who will run the tournament for their area.
Once a tournament location has been registered and accepted by Konami, competitors that have registered on the website will receive an email directing them to the nearest Round One tournament location.
Any official Konami DDR game can be chosen by the Tournament Administrator. The official rules states that a "DanceDanceRevolution game system" is to be used and suggested a PS2 version in other documentation.
3 Age Divisions
* Youth, age 8 through 12
* Teen, age 13 through 18
* Adult, age 18 through 32
3 songs and difficulties for each age division will be chosen by the Administrator. A 4th song will be chosen for tie-breakers. Competitors choose between one of these 3 songs.
“The winner‟s score in Round One is determined by multiplying the number of “difficulty blocks” the song has (i.e. a score of 100,000 on a 7 difficulty block song comes to a final score of 700,000).” This is what is stated in the official rules, but the Admin Training PDF states “Scores will appear on the bottom of screen once play ends, this is the score that is recorded.” Going back though to the official rules says “Following Round One all winning scores are determined by the number of “Perfect” steps of each competitor.”
Round Two – These are 4 locations across the US that will be announced.
Dates: October 1, 2010 through November 20, 2010
Four total regional qualifier tournaments will be held, unlike last year’s 8. The official rules state that only the First and Second place winners from each Round One division are eligible to compete in the Round Two regional’s, but in other places it states top 3 places.
Rules are the same as last year’s regional's. Single elimination, first 3 rounds are best of 3, song choices are randomed from specific list, semis and finals participants are able to choose one song and the third song is randomed.
Round Three – Finals, location to be announced.
Date: December 4, 2010
Rules are single elimination, random seeding, best of 3 . “In order to qualify for the US Finals, you must win your age group and have one of the top four scores nationally.”
Prizes
Only the prizes for the Regional tournaments are stated in the Official rules. 1st and 2nd regional winners receive a trophy and a copy of a DanceDanceRevolution game. The website states that $250 gift certificates will be awarded to the top 3 in each age division.
A lot of what I've been reading has been taken from the West Virgina DDR State Championship. There are many small details that are stated differently in different places from the Official Rules, so its very hard to understand what to expect. We still do not know which arcade version of DDR players will be expected to compete on for the Regional and Final tournaments.
The available tournament administrator documentation along with the official rules can be found in these two PDF's
Round One Admin Packet includes Official Rules PDF
Round One Admin Training includes tournament summary PDF

I wonder if I should apply to have a 1st round qualifier @ Evergreen. There's a few of us now who play DDR up north that could really be beneficial to have a second location. Thoughts and opinions?

Bill and I definitely have Narrows locked down and ready to roll when the time comes.
Suko, if Konami will let you I'd say go for it.
