I noticed Bemanistyle post about this...
http://www.bemanistyle.com/index.php/news/ddr-us-championship-website-updated-for-2010-tournament-1857
The 2010 championships are coming up, but instead of being ran at Gameworks, they are being held by arcades/people who sign up to run it. Submissions go on until the end of september for it.
Would be a good opportunity. for the PNW Community to organize something.

Ya, either Evergreen or @ Pink Gorilla. I haven't seen Bobby on here in a while tho, and I don't exactly know him really well. Then again, I don't really know the Evergreen people well either.

I registered (still don't know if it's been "approved" or not) and got this packet in the mail describing the tournament. Some of the rules I read are...interesting. Here's a sample:
Quote
Tournament Administration I
• Administrator of the tournament determines best times to hold Qualifier tournament (Either during a regular scheduled class or a specific time set up for the tournament)
• Administrators keep track of all Participants’ scores on the tracking sheet reporting
only the 1st, 2nd 3rd and 4th
place winners’ information to the Admin site.
• Participants line up in random order
• Arrow speed and difficulty level may be preselected by Administrator According to age division each age division should compete at the same arrow speed and difficulty level. This gives an equal playing field or may be selected by the participant. For example:
– Light for ages 8-12
– Standard for ages 13-17
– Heavy for ages 18-32
• This depends on which game you have.
• Play begins in order of song number
• Administrator watches each Participants turn of play
• Administrator uses best judgment to handle disputes and redo’s depending on
circumstance
– Poor conduct on the part of the participant
– Technical difficulties or issues
– Interference from other Participants
– Illness
– Inappropriately attired the day they are to play (wrong shoes, clothes too
loose)
– Location, emergency
• Tie breakers are held immediately upon completion of all turns
– Tie breakers occur when two or more Participants have the exact same score
– Admin will set same difficulty level arrow speed and use the tie breaker song
from the song list
– Participants in a tie-breaker will each have one turn of play until there is a
clear winner
• Upon Completion of competition the admin reports on winners to the admin site

I think what they MEANT to get at was that playing in certain types of shoes is dangerous and they don't want to get sued. You know, 6'' heels, bowling shoes, fuzzy bunny slippers, etc etc. They still phrased it very poorly.

The entire website and all the documentations I've seen regarding this tournament look like they've been written by a 12 year old Taiwanese child. I don't know who the hell is in charge of quality control for this thing, but it's pathetic.

Bah...a Saturday. Well, if it's after 2:30pm I can definitely make it, otherwise it's just a little harder.

Um, apparently Everett is a legit location for the round 1 tournament. I didn't think that by applying I would automatically be accepted. -_-'
Soooo, I guess this means I better, I dunno, actually have a tournament huh?
Anyone have any suggestions as to when? I could make it a different day than Jon's @ Narrows to allow people more flexibility in what day they play/compete.
Also, I need to talk with Ron and make certain that the people @ Evergreen are cool with all this.
Edit:
Jon, there're no prizes for the round 1 tourny, right? It's just 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place that get to go to Round 2?

I wonder if there is still enough time to set up other locations in the area. Maybe the owner of that laser tag place in Lacey could set up a smaller tourny for the people in the South Sound. And thanks to Gosha for telling me about the Narrows location in Tacoma.
Edit: Looked and I'm guessing the deadline is the first of October? Well that's enough time for the other tourney NSX was setting up and the Round 1 qualifier to run.

Round Three
Winners from Round Two will move to the final Round Three tournament which location has yet to be determined.
I was told that Konami plans on using DanceDanceRevolution PS3 for this event and that a new home version pads will also be used.
The rules for this event can also be found on the official rules page.
Prizes that have been announced include a 250$ gift card and a copy of DanceDanceRevolution for each winner of their age division. Additional sponsors are still a possibility which may increase the prize value.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand I'm out.

I've heard that they reused the information packets that they used for the Virginia State school competitions. I highly doubt this will be played on a home version. Of course, I could very well be wrong, but I seriously doubt it.
Edit: Nevermind. After reading that, it does sound rather ridiculous. I'm going to keep pushing through with this thing though, just in case they realize this is stupid and (in typical Konami fashion) decide to make this arcade finale at the last minute.

The tournament starts at 12. The earliest I can be there is probably 2. If qualifying doesn't take that long then I can't make it. That's a little unfortunate since IIRC it's age-divided and I would probably be able to win by default.

This whole thing is another giant cluster-f*ck of mismanagement. I can't believe how poorly organized this is. I tried to support Konami as much as possible last year, but this is just so half-assed it's not even funny. I probably wouldn't even bother with this thing, but I somehow have the responsibility for running this round 1 qualifier. After that, I think I'm done and ready to walk away from this thing.
Jon, please let me know in detail how you're planning to run your tournament. I want mine to be a similar to yours as possible to avoid bias or inconsistency...not like it really matters.

That's because it is.
I will be posting my "rules" on how this thing will be run sometime before the tournament. I wouldn't worry about it much though, since I'm not expecting a huge crowd to show up for this thing....unless they're from Canada.
