I noticed Bemanistyle post about this...

http://www.bemanistyle.com/index.php/news/ddr-us-championship-website-updated-for-2010-tournament-1857

The 2010 championships are coming up, but instead of being ran at Gameworks, they are being held by arcades/people who sign up to run it.  Submissions go on until the end of september for it.

Would be a good opportunity. for the PNW Community to organize something.

i'm in, but wow, i just tried to read through everything on that site and to me, it just seemed all cluster F'ED!

you got that email too?  that stuff is too damn confusing.  a simple confirmation page saying 'you're registered for the narrows/evergreen qualifier.  show up on XX/XX/2010 and blah blah blah" would've been a better indication that you're registered than their fancy wording.

Ok, the Round 1 qualifier at Evergreen is a little over a week away and I'm sure some people would be interested in the rules for this thing. The original post containing the tournament times, address, etc can be found here:
http://www.pnwbemani.net/western-wa/%28arcade%29-evergreen-lanes-everett-wa/msg22333/#msg22333

Rules:
I adapted the rules that Jon used in his tournament for this one. This will keep everything standard and provide a balanced playing field.

Here's the low-down on how it'll work.

- It will be double elimination, with each group (youth, teen, adults) getting their own division.

- There will be index cards with a list of 6 songs on them. There will be one card for each tier. One pre-determined song on the list will be used as the first song played for all matches within that tier. The remaining 5 songs are selectable by the players for their matches.

- The loser of the first song gets to chose the second song. The other player gets to chose the third song if it's needed.

- If there is a tie, a fourth song will be played by choosing RANDOM. If the song is a difficulty of 10, it will be disregarded and RANDOM will be chosen again.

- Each tier will get a different card with a new list of 6 songs.

- Since we're playing on a DDR Extreme cab, which has a weighted scoring system, I will be determining the score using the following score method:

Perfect = 2 Points
Great = 1 Point
Good = 0 Points
Boo = -4 Points
Miss = -8 Points
OK = 6 Points
NG = 0 Points

If you don't understand any of this, don't worry, it probably won't affect you.

*If you got 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place at Jon's tournament, you're not eligible to compete in this event.

*If you are under 18, PLEASE don't forget to bring your parental consent form. I don't want to have to turn you away because you didn't fill it out.

Did I forget anything? If so, just ask and I'll answer if I can.

Hey any idea how many people will be at the one at evergreen yet?

No clue. My guess is somewhere between 5 and 10, but it could just be a handful of people for all I know.

Are the flyers still up on the machine?

Yup they're still alive and kicking and shocking even the ones on the walls are still up. Which I think shows that daryl cares about us lol

That's good to hear. I did intentionally use scotch tape to not leave any residue on the walls. I'm not a douche bag after all.

I don't know if your tally includes me, but I've been persuaded to enter by the people who saw me accidentally win a fake match at the previous qualifier. Tongue I have no idea what I'm in for.

I don't really have a "tally" at the moment, but I'm hoping for a few people show up. I was debating whether or not I wanted to compete, but I think I'm going to leave it to everyone else this year.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the tournament. We had a good time and saw a few new faces too.

The winners were:

1st - Moses
2nd - Zach
3rd - Ron

I have images and videos that I'm still sorting through. For now you can check out my youtube playlist for the videos I took of the event. Images and other details will probably follow soon.

I am SO glad that somebody got me on film saying "I want to make him prance around like a little cowgirl."

I had a lot of fun today. The downside to being the perpetual tournament admin is that you never really get to play in tournaments - I'm so glad that I decided to enter this time. This tournament was awesome; thanks for running it!

Ya I feel like it was a great tourney too and it went by pretty smooth too. Great job suko. And we should all try to do a meet up with everyone that was there today to just have a fun time. Maybe play pool along with ddr and possibly bowl sometime

It looks like 6 people showed up to Evergreen to enter in the tournament? That's only 2 less that what we had at Narrows. Smiley

8 people actually entered. Smiley Some of the earlier matches just weren't filmed, presumably because Suko wanted to save battery and memory for the more exciting later matches.

She presumes correctly.

I will post as much information about this tournament as my attention span can muster. I might do it during a break in work tomorrow.

Edit: I'll scan the brackets and post a pic of it when I get around to it. Other than that, we had 8 entrants at this event:

Moses
Zach
Ron
Laura
Stephen
Crystal
Daegan
Shawn

To those who won 3rd, 2nd, and 1st place at the Evergreen Lanes tournament: Your information has been submitted to Konami. They said they will contact you about round two. When and where will that be? I have no idea. But you guys SHOULD be good to go.

Edit: Here's two pics from the event.

Aka nothing in the PNW.

Quote from: myst_Trainer
From my converstations on the equipment being used is a Konami provided, "PlayStation" I do not know which platform. along with a "DanceDanceRevolution Title" with Konami official pads, aka soft pads. I would expect barefoot since that is the recommended course as according to the pad instruction manual.

This is why I am also hosting a local (non-US Championship) side event after on my SuperNOVA arcade in my arcade, after the Round 2 event.

Quote from: myst_trainer
The precise location for the finals is undisclosed at this time, I will say it is planned for California though, and that is is planned for December 4th.

I don't like the idea of a home version setup just as much as my boss's boss's boss's boss (yeah it's really hard trying to keep my corporate overseers happy). However that is the way it is going to be, and its too late to be changing plans for Konami.

So the PNW is pretty much "dead for DDR" compared to the other areas on the map (at least to Konami, and not us)!
This is why I'm so motivated to keep our community alive and kicking here.

If any of you venture down to California, good luck! However, I don't know of any of you that cared enough to do so.  Roll Eyes

I think no one cares because the tournament is dreadfully run. Our scene isn't necessarily dead here; it's more that we know what a good tournament is and that we don't want to support something as uninteresting as what Konami's putting on. While I can totally understand why they're doing the tournaments the way they are, I just have absolutely zero desire to participate in that kind of event. I think a lot of high-tier players like Allan, Tuan, and Keby feel that way too.
