I noticed Bemanistyle post about this...
http://www.bemanistyle.com/index.php/news/ddr-us-championship-website-updated-for-2010-tournament-1857
The 2010 championships are coming up, but instead of being ran at Gameworks, they are being held by arcades/people who sign up to run it. Submissions go on until the end of september for it.
Would be a good opportunity. for the PNW Community to organize something.

Konami has apparently pulled the round 2 events, and are switching to some kind of online competition instead.

Do you have a source you could share?
Some info about it:

Dear Regional Partners,
We would like to thank all of you for your interest and participation in this program. We want to inform you that Konami has made a strategic decision regarding the upcoming regional events. The entire process is being moved to an online competition. This is a new strategy for Konami and was only just mandated.
We greatly appreciate your participation in this program and, on behalf of Konami, want to thank you for your willingness to take part in this program to date. We will be contacting all participants to notify them regarding the online process between today and tomorrow.
We will be sending each regional location a gift on behalf of Konami and again want to thank you for your time and efforts to date.

Honesty and virtue. And we all know how abundant those two traits are on the internet.

Wow. Just...wow.
If I had to make up a story about the worst-ran DDR tournament ever concieved, I don't think I could even come close to what this has become. It makes the 2009 Championship look like pure genius.

Hardly seems like a competition anymore, unless Konami vastly changes their plans in the next week :[
Those on the mailing list all probably got an email today that asked for your personal information for a second time, for whatever reason..

As a tournament organizer, I won't be hearing any more from them I suspect. Not even to inform my tournament's winners of the changes. Dang shame they screwed it up this bad.

Tony got an e-mail from them, so at least those who won your tournament aren't completely out of the loop, Jon! Apparently it was incoherent enough that it took him quite awhile to even decipher what they were getting at.

I too, received an email from them yesterday. All I can say is, what an eye sore. I'll just see how this turns out after I provide the needed info to continue onto round 2. And after I do that, I'm going put at the end of the email saying "You guys suck at running tournaments!" Nah just kidding, but they do deserve it though.

According to the website:
Quote
Round Two of the DanceDanceRevolution US 2010 Championship Tournament will be held online, startting Monday November 15th, 2010 All Round One finalists will be invited to participate in the Round Two Online Events. For more information on how to participant in the Round Two Event, Here's what you will need to do:
1. Send us a video capturing your DDR performance and best score.
2. See
http://ddruschampionship.com/submissionrules.html
for further details
3. You can send in your entrys via YouSendit file to:
prm@b2cdemand.com
It should be noted that
http://ddruschampionship.com/submissionrules.html
doesn't work. And online submissions are laughable.
This tournament is a joke. I vote the PNW kindly tells this tournament to blow it out their ass

This tournament from the very beginning was never meant for the committed players. It was supposed to revive interest in the game on the console market.
I know everyone's pissed, but honestly you can't blame them for not caring about us. We're what? a community of less than 1000 dedicated arcade players. Not really a great business prospect anymore.

I have told them essentially that, but in slightly nicer terms. They didn't respond.

This is true. But in general, tournaments are usually held for the serious and/or experienced individuals within a group. Why even bother doing a tournament like this if they're trying to appeal to the casual crowd?
If they want to hit the casual market, they should do what they did for the West Virginia(?) school tournaments. That's a good way of promoting your home console games to a (not as) competitive group of potential players.
Long story short: If you're going to do a national tournament for ANYTHING, do it right and cater it to those who really care, or don't do it at all.

There are 1000 people just on groovestats listed, only one dance games tracking site, with the last place having an 88% average between itg1/2. I would think that just these 1000 players represent a small upper end of the regular player spectrum, maybe the top 1 or 2% or so considering all the people who don't have USBs and still play, or play DDR, or havent played all or almost all of itg1/2 to even get that high an average. That means they have at least on the order of tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of players that play at least a couple times a month. Maybe they could hope to attract another 100,000 new players but we experienced players have always pulled more new players to the game than any flashy new animations or happy japanese pop songs or shittily run tournaments ever have.
Point is, we are a solid business prospect. I honestly don't understand why Konami has to sell us out for the noobies, and why they have such a problem actually listening to their customers...
Konami is killing dance games.... How ironic... And so sad...
I guess I better save up for an ITG machine before theyre all extinct.

Oh man. I cracked up so hard reading how badly Konami (or whatever company it is running this torunament) is messing this up.
http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/viewthread.php?threadid=3373&page=1
All I can say is, WOW. I don't think in my wildest nightmares I could ever imagine a tournament so poorly organized and ran. It's 2011 and there is still no winner yet. I mean, seriously Konami.

A video submission final round? That means they could just simply re-record until they get it perfect. I'm glad I wasn't able to make this one.

I'm literally crying laughing right now from reading the ZIV thread on this tournament. This is quite possibly the best and worst tournament i've ever heard of.
