- ORIGINAL POST -
I'm not saying it's legit, but according to EvilDave and Bemanistyle:
Quote
An unofficial announcement of an official Konami lead tournament has been posted. Reasons for this unofficial announcement is due to the first regional tournaments starting very soon.
The Community Manager of Konami, Ryan Iyengar aka DukAmok is the main person behind this and has been in contact with EvilDave over some of the details of this upcoming event.
Here are some of the details:
* The main event and regional's are to be held on SuperNOVA 1 for its availablity. SN2 will be used at locations when no SN1 is available.
* "Satellite" regional tournaments will take place throughout the US at Gameworks locations.
* The 1st place winners from each regional will be awarded with an all expenses paid trip to the finals.
* Finals are to be held at the Gameworks Las Vegas, NV on the 5th of December.
* The main event will only be open for the 1st place regional winners.
Competitors must register to compete on an upcoming Konami website. Entrance is free of charge.

I remember last year following posts on ddronlinecommunity.com on this subject. So I this just might actually be serious.
Should be fun if it turns out to be real.

INTRODUCTION
Iori, you need to grow up.
You haven't provided any information to backup your claims. And I don't think that you can. I'm bored, so I'll play your little game. I've got some quotes from you that I can't wait to see your sources of knowledge for.
BODY

I won't be there unless it's after 2pm. Enjoy your free trip to Vegas, MTJ.
Can you predict the future? If so, God damn you're awesome! Where's your source for this "fact"?
Quote from: Iori241
Machines not licensed for this region Smiley No Extreme machines are supposed to be here. Why would they run a tourney for a game they never licensed to be here in the US?
Some DDR Extremes are legally licensed to be here. Not all machines are hacks or pirated copies. There are instances of operators getting written permission from Konami to import or operate DDR cabinets here in the US. The owner I purchased my ITG2 dedicab from has a DDR Extreme cab that he got written permission from Konami to operate state-side in 2004.
Quote from: Iori241 on September 17, 2009, 04:43:40 PM
Oh yeah! It's a great idea to reward a region that has the most illegally imported and pirated copies of your game! As far as Konami is concerned EX doesn't exist in America. If they were really asses they would have tried to recall it, but luckily for us the game was pirated at an unprecedented rate, making it impossible to track every machine. You have to realize that games are LICENSED FOR USE IN A SPECIFIC REGION for reasons that go beyond a company trying to screw its fans over.
See above.
In my post I was very casually implying that a DDR Extreme tournament is what many fans seem to want. However, you, in your infinite wisdom and patience, decided to misconstrue my single sentence into a formal argument against Konami's objectives and business practices.
I am not new to this game, and I have certainly been playing longer than you. Top all that off with the fact that I worked closely with arcade owners on a daily basis throughout my time in college, and I can confidently say I know more about the arcade business than you. Don't tell me that you know what Konami is thinking, because you don't. You only have a theory, and your theory is just as good as everyone else's. So stop acting like everyone else is wrong and that you're always right. If you have proof, then put it forward. If not, then you're just as wrong as the rest of us.
Quote from: Iori241 on September 18, 2009, 05:03:30 PM
You were asking for it by posting uninformed opinions.
This proves that you truly are full of yourself. You think you have "facts" on your side, but you don't, they're simply your opinions. And apparently, you feel that your opinions are the word of God and everyone else is simply "uninformed". Very mature of you.
You have no real-world experience with the arcade industry except as a consumer of the products. You only know the tip of the iceberg, yet you act like you're the CEO of Konami. In reality, you're just some high school kid, or possibly a community college flunkie, who has nothing better to do than act like he knows everything and belittle everyone he comes across. Sorry, was that an "uninformed" opinion? My bad.
I imagine the very few friends you have are happy to be separated from you by the internet and hundreds of miles of fiber optic cable, because if I had to put up with all your crap talk all day long, I wouldn't be able to last a day without throwing myself in front of a bus.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, stop being such a pompous jerk who thinks he knows the inner-workings of the universe. Everything you post on this site are opinions that you claim to be facts. I see you repeatedly denounce people as "incorrect" because they don't provide proof for their arguments, but you do the same thing. You're just more arrogant about it.
Here's my last bit of advice to you; stop being such a dick to everyone. If you have an opinion, fine, but stop acting like you're the only one who is right. You sure as hell aren't and I hope someday you realize that.
P.S. That feels good. I can't wait to see what happens in the next episode of "Return of the Forum Troll"

Here's my last bit of advice from you, stop being such a dick to everyone. If you have an opinion, fine, but stop acting like you're the only one who is ever right, because you sure as hell aren't.
1) LOL at quoting an obvious joke post and taking it seriously (it was a joke about another user's post about Amber getting a free trip). But in all honesty MTJ does have the one of the best chances of going there out of us, last time I checked he was an excellent player with VERY good scores on both ITG and DDR. I'd venture to say he's *arguably* the best DDR player in the PNW at the moment (and so you don't think I'm saying he's THE best I highlighted the key word in asterisks). Sure, there hasn't been a big tourney for the best players, but here's hoping this tourney gets the turnout of top PNW players (all 5 of them, unlikely due to college / life etc, but hey whatever).
2) I don't see how this defeats my point at all. I never said all machines were bootlegs. I just said majority. Big difference. The majority of machines aren't legit. Why would Konami go out of its way to okay thousands of machines they didn't license for that region to be there? They wouldn't. And I don't see how even if an arcade owner gets permission to own it that makes it a legally licensed game in this region. It doesn't, it just meant they got special permission. Outside of TGA I can't think of an arcade that has had this kind of permission. Are you sure your operator actually got this permission, or are you fabricating this point?
2.5) How did I misconstrue anything? Just think about what I said. I really think this is probably the most obvious and clear cut point.
3) You may or may not know more about the arcade business than me. You're making irrational assumptions about someone you don't even know
3.5) What does being new or having played the game have to do with ANYTHING!?!? Last time I checked you don't have to still actively play a game to critically think about its mechanics and the company that produces it. And this is all ignoring: HOW ARE YOU SURE YOU'VE BEEN PLAYING LONGER THAN ME??!?!?! You don't even know me yet you make another unfounded assumption. And I never called "EVERYONE ELSE" unfinformed, just you.
4) And here your post goes downhill into ad hominem bullshit. I'm almost 21, lost my job just before the economic crisis, and produce a little bit of music on the side. Sure I have pretty much nothing to do besides looking for work 8-7 pm and playing games in my spare time / checking message boards. So? And I do have many perfectly rational people I get along with that are happy not to be separated by a cable's length, including on this board. I don't call them out on shit though, because they aren't spewing stuff that doesn't make sense. If they said something stupid they'd expect me to ask them what they mean or clarify, and I definitely expect them to call me on my shit too. Yet again, I never claimed to know more than I post about. I don't post on matters unless I'm confident I'm correct or that I have a valid opinion. I'd have many more posts otherwise, and they wouldn't be as quality.
5) You have not proven me incorrect even once, stop acting like you're the one who's correct! You're basically telling me to grow up when you're being the real troll here, not countering any of my perfectly rational arguments and throwing in ad-hominem red herrings. Why in the world would I take advice from you?

It's fun to look into the mirror and see your own ugly reflection ain't it? I don't get into flame wars often, because I hate getting into these stupid, adolescent debates, but damned if you're the only person I've had to deal with in years that I truly felt deserved it.
I say you go your road and I'll go mine. I don't need your BS quips about my posts from now on and I'll ignore all your posts from this point forward. Let the others on this forum deal with you. It only took two threads for me to realize what an ass you are.
Sorry regular forum-goers. I had to blow off that steam. I'm done now and everything can return to the stasis quo.

1) I don't see how you're playing at my level, you aren't grasping simple points.
2) Bad attempt at trolling, They aren't supposed to be here due to licensing. Where am I going wrong here? Another thing you're missing here is: bootleg /=/ legit game that is illegally here. Nice try.
3) When have I made an irrational assumption in this thread.
3.5) Taking guesses is never a good idea unless you have a rational basis for them, which you don't. And you're trying to make a stab at me due to my age? Your maturity astounds me!
4) I don't see an ugly reflection, sorry. I'm doing pretty good in life compared to a lot of people and I probably don't measure success in life in the same sense that you do. You're the one who started the sophomoric name calling. The only reason you're salty is because you're wrong. Learn to lose an argument. And notice who I have a pattern of "being an ass" to. Oregon has two; Idaho has one or two; I'm guessing Washington can at least provide a couple, seeing as that's where all the good machines are.
And by good players in this context, I mean MTJ and ZDR. Ethan, Hooby, and Foti are also top-tier by my standards (and I'm sure Sean, Wes, and others whom I don't know can compete on that same level, if they really want to), but certainly not on par with the best.

I know right?
I just hope gameworks doesn't decide to use DDR X.
I was there tonight to see if they've been keeping up with the pads on SuperNova. And I am disappointed. P1 was barely playable, especially when I got 42 greats (Most Pad) and 8 goods (Pad) and 11 Misses (pad) on Brazilian Anthem. P2 is pretty much dead. Up arrow never responded once. Down arrow was the only one giving me perfects before I just stepped off in dismay.
I really that place gets there shit together, because dear god this is going to be one hell of a bad tournament on that machine. God forbid DDR X.
Also I got an update on their DDR Extreme machine. Apparently they are waiting on a new part that connects the pads to the machine, because the other one died. So.....even though it seems like they're never going to fix it, they are apparently......

I read on AiJ forums that the representatives of this tournament will be getting there like a day early at each location to make sure the pads are up to snuff. You'd think Konami would just give them a box full of extra sensors and whatnot for this, since it is a national thing.

One day hardly seems like enough time to properly get the pads in order, especially if it's missing multiple sensors or has an issue that's difficult to identify. But, I suppose we should be happy that they're sending SOMEONE out.

With how easy the qualifier song is, I expect a lot of people to go. If my registration # is any indicator, they're already half-way tot he 160 player cap, and it's only been a day or two!
If there is going to be 160 players @ Gameworks, that'll take forever to get everyone through, even if it's only 1 round per person.
Btw, welcome Shar. I'd suggest you register. An event of this scale is very rare and I don't think you want to miss it.

Oh wow, this is quite a large scale event here. I'm curious is Lou Bega will be there also. Hopefully they maintain the gameworks machine properly,
there will probably be a healthy turnout.
I have registered successfully and it said my reg. number is 218, I assume they are taking registration numbers in the nation as a whole, since there is a cap of 160 at each tournament and there is no mention in my confirmation e-mail that the Seattle event is capped.

so i'm the one player from boise idaho that will be there(i'm currently living in gresham, OR) and i'm way excited about this.
is anyone else concerned about time window transitions between SN2 and SN1? i'm not sure if it's going to make much of a difference i just know i haven't played on SN1 is quite some time...so just wondering?
and also how many people in the area can SDG'd all the qualifiers and who all has AAA'd all of them?

I've tripled all of them, but I couldn't consistently do it.
Doesn't matter much though. If gameworks doesn't fix their machine NO ONE will be SDG'ing any song, that's a guarantee.
