Does anyone have anything planned for Sakura-Con this year? DDR/ITG Tourney, meetups, IIDX gaming, anything?

I have a few IIDX Styles, a JKOC, USKOC, and an un-modded PS2 (Swap Magic).
I'm actually registered to go so I will most likely attend this year.

http://scmb.sakuracon.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=22700  <--- ITG tournament rules here!

DDR tournament rules are forthcoming.  The DDR tournament is going to break from the usual format in that we are trying an iron man thing similar to the Vancouver, BC Pump tournaments, so those rules are taking extra time to refine.  Will be by the end of the day, though! Cheesy

Edit:  Have DDR as well! http://scmb.sakuracon.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=22701

Yay thanks Laura and Tony!

Hey so I just noticed two small things I wanted to ask about the DDR tournament, first off,
Quote
Round 7: Play the Oni Course Sorrow. Perfect attack (not Marvelous attack). 2 players advance.
A perfect and specifically-not-marvelous attack on Sorrow? I kinda think you should just make it for score on both of the oni courses (especially Sorrow's songs being so erratic timing as-is)... This just seemed a little off to me and kinda too luck-based I dunno.
Second, you might specify an arrow mod for the random nonstop in the final round, unless you want to have people potentially picking 3x and getting a Max (which honestly almost sounds better having it at-your-own-peril). Or at least mention that risk at the time. Anyway thought I'd put those out there for consideration.

Oh and quick clarification from ITG rules:
Quote
A player may not write a selection down if it was picked from their card in a previous round. Additionally, all the songs from their card for the immediately previous match are not allowed.
So if it's round 4, one cannot put any songs on one's card that were picked by their opponents in rounds 1-2 or any of the songs at all they put down in round 3, however those not picked off one's card from rounds 1 and 2 are allowed. Correct?

I like this as a happy medium between the 'only disallowing picks' vs. 'disallowing all songs from previous cards' however I feel like this is going to be hard to keep track of. You just might make sure everyone thoroughly understands this as to avoid confusion or whatever.

Anyway these overall look great! Thanks again for getting this all together! Should be great fun  Roll Eyes

We didn't want to go quite as gimmicky as the Big Al's PIU Ironman did at times, but the point is to mix conventional and unconventional challenges, even if that means a little bit of luck is involved, but it will also come down to player strategy and skill at executing their own strategy.  That's why it's the semi-final - we expect the top few players to do a reasonable job figuring out how to score well and to be good enough to act on such strategies despite the Oni life bar being so unforgiving.  It's doubtful that every player will finish the course, and a good M/P ratio could easily let someone win without finishing the course.

As for the finals, the point is that you need to be prepared for anything and we will stress this fact.  It's entirely up to the players to decide if risking 3x on the few 200+ BPM songs is worth the advantage on slower songs.

It works exactly like that - any song that was actually played from one of your cards, plus the entire contents of your last card are blocked.  This isn't too hard to track as long as we hang onto the cards (we still have the cards from Try to Quad and Sakuracon '11, so believe me when I say it's a non-issue to keep track of them).  Additionally, we have extra staff over last year, so we can actually spare a person or two to be dedicated to validating cards.

Players will be awarded points based on their rank each round; players will be award points equal to the number of non-eliminate players minus their round rank
So first place gets 15 then for Butterfly?

Assuming 16+ entrants, first would be worth 15 points for the first few rounds (including Butterfly), less after people start being eliminated.  Last place is always worth 0 points.

Points are applied before eliminations happen, though we'll trim to 16 before applying points for the first round, just in case there are a lot of entrants.

How many individuals do you have on personnel Laura? Can I even offer anymore? I'm just inquisitive.
ITG tournament would be fun!
Holy crap. Reading this post this almost seems like a real (albeit uninformed) person. However, if you read the other posts from (it), you quickly realize the truth.
