Okay guys, so I talked to the owner about running a In The Groove 2 Tournament and hes willing to throw one, but I need your guys help in organizing it since some of you have already ran some in the past. It'd be nice if someone is willing to help me run the tournament.

Also, if any of the more experienced players from Seattle or Portland area come down, I'd like an alternative plan if there were to have a significant amount of non-hardcore players.

If we could have some techs during the tourny to assist with any pad malfunctions, that would be great.

Their website- http://laserfunzoneolympia.com/

Okay, aside from all the stuff that's above, I've come up with some pretty simple rules.

Double Elimination Tournament Rules

-A qualifying song will determine where you seed. You will not know the qualifying song until the tournament starts.

-Higher seed gets to choose either song first or what side they want(1st player side or 2nd player side).

-There will be no swearing since you will mostly be around kids, so please refrain from any foul language if you do happen to swear.

-No being a douche hat (yeah I changed it from ass-hat to douche hat), that means no picking a super hard song like Energizer on a player that can barely pass a 10(in other words, do not pick a song that the other player is incapable of passing). The other player must have mutual interest in whatever song was picked ONLY if the difficulty exceeds 11.

-1 veto per match will be issued per match

-If there happens to be a legitimate pad error, we will recalculate the score.
Non-legitimate errors being called will be judged by the many people that are watching and be dealt with in a mannerly way; poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated.

-No flash photography while players are playing.

-Best out of 3 games wins the match.

-If players happen to run into a tie, we will let random decide which song is picked next and the winner of that song will advance.

-Players will be given a break if needed.

-Please let the judges know where you are going if you happen to be the next one to play and have to go outside for whatever reason it maybe. This way we will know where you are at and will not throw you out of the tournament because we don't where you are.

-Be on time for the event, but there are some exceptions if you are running late by like 10 or 20 minutes. You can call the place at (360)455-0183 and let us know so we can get you into qualifying.

-Final 4 players will play Long version custom songs selected by me. How this will work is, I will choose 3 custom songs that will be played in order of 9 foot, 10 foot, and 12 foot. You are welcome to request songs. Post your requests here in this thread.

-Most importantly, have fun as always.

I need some feed back from you guys now so I can finalize this and run it over to the owner so we can work on a specific date the tournament will be on. Thank you.

Please let me know if I'm missing anything. I really want to make this a big tournament, and I'd really love to see everyone on here from the pnwbemani community to come down and participate.  Smiley

nigga where my weed at
tihink u left it @ illusionz

In all seriousness though, some "asshat" could enter on 8x s4r blink and rape. This is all fun and games until someone is adept at playing with mods. You can't escape being a scrub either way.

I'd be down for the entering in lower brackets. I don't want a repeat of the Official DDR tournament... Which was, for me, horrific to say the least. I've actually managed to get better at playing DDR but not enough to stand a chance against the pros. I doubt I'd be any better at ITG since I've only played a handful of times in Portland but I'll grab some practice since I only live 25 minutes away from this location. If anyone is nearby maybe we could meet up and possibly talk some? I could use a few pointers for this.

As for the needing tech crews on the pads/machines I'd love to say I'd help out but I only have a basic set of skills working with DDR pads and that's it. I haven't even had my first tear-down yet. I'd be willing to help with some maintenance if you are for some reason short on hands.

So, given that I normally run tournaments and don't get to enter them, I'm really excited to play in this tournament! That said, if you need any help with organizing/running the event, I'd be glad to help in any way that doesn't interfere with my ability to enter (IE: writing down people's scores during qualifying, helping to service the pads before/during the tournament, pretty much anything else that isn't writing rules or picking the qualifier.) If I wear 10 lb weights on my legs, can I play in the lower division DDR tounrament? That seems fair, right?

You can also tape a wet cat to my head on some of the really easy songs as an additional "handicap".

I know you're joking, Scott, but in all honesty, this just reminds me of this one guy Cracker who used to play in 2002. He felt bad about being so above the local skill level that one time, he entered a tournament and tried to handicap himself by qualifying in bunny slippers. He still got like 8 greats on whatever 7-8 foot Heavy song. Tongue

Also... I find that leg weights make my timing better!

if I could ask for a clarification,

Specifically in regards to "both players must agree to selecting the chosen song," couldn't both players theoretically not agree on a song for a long duration of the tournament? Maybe each player could have one veto per match?

The other player must have mutual interest in whatever song was picked ONLY if the difficulty exceeds 11(I guess I should add that instead of whats up already). And I forgot all about the veto rule. 1 veto per match it is then.

Laura, you are welcomed to help anytime. I'll aim you sometime and we'll go over some tournament stuff.

Suko, you can join the lower division tournament if you play on ONE leg =)

I know you're joking, Scott

In all seriousness, I'll take some handicaps to compete in a DDR Extreme tournament that is geared towards the novice crowd. I love Extreme and enjoy DDR tournaments WAY more than ITG ones. So, if wearing leg weights, a ridiculous hat, and a pissed of badger on my head is what it takes, I might just do it!

If I can disable jumps and/or use my hands, I'm in!

Edit: Opps, I meant to modify my first post.

I live like a 2min drive away, so I could meet you down there anytime. I'm a pretty decent player so I could probably help ya out sometime.

Suko, I'll probably just make an exception or something so that you can join tournament lol.

A little update! Tournament date is 9/17/10 and will start at 6pm. Entree fee is $10 and there will be a sign up sheet for those who would like to sign up before hand; you may also sign up on tournament day when you walk-in. And last of all it is now a Single Elimination since the owner believes there will be a time constraint, but if people sign up before the tournament date, that will help us see how many will be participating before hand and will let us know if we should change it back to Double Elimination.

I am still in the works of organizing a DDR Extreme tournament that day. This may disappoint you Suko, but I was thinking of just making it a normal tournament. The tournament is supposed to be only for lower division players, but if you'd still like to join... you have to USE THE BAR MWAHAHA!!

While I don't love playing with the bar, this would not really be a significant handicap to me. In all seriousness, I think I can help you moderate this tournament (if I end up going) and I'd just keep it for the trick division players. I love tournies, but I like seeing everyone else have fun more. So, if I show up, I won't play (unless it's just for fun or screwing around).

I wasn't the one that came up with that date. Talk to Jeremy about that.
