March 07, 2007, 02:53:19 PM - ORIGINAL POST -

All right, I'm just going to throw this out there for a little discussion on a few changes I was thinking about:

 Remove: Air Hockey
 Remove: File Area

Neither get many posts anymore. If people need to upload more than a few files they can use Megaupload, and we could move the random music thread into Off Topic discussion or something.

 Split Serious (Off Topic) Business into its two child forums, Serious Business and Off-topic Discussion.

There seems to be a definitive rift between the two types of topics... I think we need to separate the serious philosophical topics (ie How old is the earth?, etc) from the random stuff. (Pictures thread, ARTWORK THREAD GOGO, etc.)

...

So now it is up to YOU, THE USERS (and BlueSS, of course) to decide the FATE OF THE FORUM. gogogogogo

sounds good to me. i kinda dont like the idea of removing the file section, as i think it will get more use in the future. But it's not my decision, and I';m only one opinion.

Sounds good, but where would we dump the threads from the two forums we're getting rid of?

ALSO: As for the "events" forum mentioned a few times, should we just be using the "Western WA" forum for stuff like that?

Part2: Tada & James' modship - transfered to both (SB+OT) or just one?

i think that they should mod the serious business stuff but DEFINITELY not the off-topic stuff... you should keep that for admins or assign somebody else that privelage.  Its not that i am against them but i just feel like moderating one board is enough

Yeah, that was their original intended role anyways.

Well, I would try to move any of the stuff that would fit into any remaining boards, but the rest could be put in the trash forum.

There we go, all done. If you guys think I moved a post that shouldn't have been or vice-versa, let me know and I'll switch it back or something.

... in any case, it'll be a lot easier to go back to a combined board if we change our minds. xD

Edit> Maybe an events board sometime in the future or something? I dunno.

I personally think what constitutes a "serious" thread varies a lot from your opinion, and we all will have various thresholds for that, so I really didn't see a reason for the split.  We know which threads are serious and which aren't from the titles if they are in one forum.

All what, 10 of them?

I've checked the Western WA forum 2 times.  I think perhaps the CALENDAR would be a good place for events.  Then again, what do I know. ;P

Only if we can name it an honorary bemani game and talk about it in the Bemani forum.

There's a lot being proposed.  I approve of some of it, and I disapprove of some of it. xP

How did the dreams thread containing having sex in a video game get through the filter to go into Serious Business? Cynic, you're off on some of these moves, but I'll have to fix it later.

That's part of my point... We're all going to have differing opinions on which threads go where, whether made in the past or the future.  Let's just have one forum.

Oh, sorry about that, I was just going by thread title; that's why I was saying for people to tell me if I did something wrong. I don't READ all of these threads. Tongue

I wish we hadn't split serious business and off topic.  Everything else is fine.

God dammit stop changing things around

The split was a good idea because I can yell at people being stupid in a serious thread.  The serious topic designation wasn't doing it's job, and I don't appreciate having to sift through crap like "doll's with down syndrome" when looking for intellectual debates on religion.

In retrospect this wasn't the greatest idea, I agree.

Serious business now has been removed. We'll be filtering back in a few topics to OTD, but for the most part if you wish to start or continue a discussion that was in there, please read the following.

We don't need any more debate and argument in these forums. All it does is cause drama, and get people to dislike each other simply because one or many may be passionate about their beliefs or opinions. We don't want to promote SERIOUS BUSINESS here, our goal is to provide a light-hearted bemani/pnw discussion where people can joke around and just talk. From now on, we'll keep a better eye on trolling/flaming/personal attacks, and expect to recieve a warning if you post with any of these in the future.

Thanks guys, and try to lighten up and have more fun. I know many of you are good at this already. Tongue

You're banning debate?  That basically shuts the door to any meaningful topics, greaaaat.  I guess it's back to accomps and cynicism for me.

I'm 100% an advocate of this change.  For one thing, there was my point before about varying thresholds between people for seriousness, and more importantly, I know that Serious Business would have eventually caused the community to die if we had kept it around.

I'm sick of the serious topics anyway.  I've seen enough of them in the past two weeks for one lifetime.

Since Serious Business is gone though, I take it I don't have modship anymore?

lawl succup owned.
But yeah, James, check out the JREF forums if you want some lively discussion. It's pretty awesome there. Unfortunately I don't think this community is willing to facilitate the kinds of discussion that want to have. It's a shame too, all just because of maybe 4 or so people being whiny because their arguments don't stand up :/

And yeah, this place will turn into every other bemani forum on the track we're on. I really wanted to try to have meaningful discussion with a rhythm game community, but there are no means to go about this as of now. I dunno if we want to be known as the "silly" forum :/
RE: cynic

debate and arging
drama and trolling
buisness and flaming
heads go rolling
lolling shot calling and rollicking bare
these are a few of my favorite things

I wasn't worried about opposing opinion because that's what people have, is opinions.
But your response to my disposition is just stupid, because that's what a moderator does -- put people back in line when they are not following the rules. There are things that kill the community for the people that have been around the longest (remember, you, amber, davyn, met and I are the only ones that are active here that have been part of the community since global... in fact amber's already done with it), and I assure you serious topics isn't it.  It's a phrase that has the word "retarded" and "users" in it at the same time.
