- ORIGINAL POST -
Sorry to make a separate topic on this, but nobody seems to be paying attention to me in the other thread.
Give us time to say what we think.
Saying "We're going to change xxx" and leaving the discussion open for a whopping four hours and four minutes (according to timestamps) was a downright terrible decision in my opinion. I needed time to think of a response, and I expected the thread would be open for a few days, but I come right in when I'm ready and see "Okay, here we go!" taking input from a staggering three people.
We've basically reverted back to where we were before the rearrangement, plus an argument. I don't know what would have happened, but there's a possibility that it could have been avoided had it not been for such a rash decision.
Also, reverting things without any input at all was even worse. I hate the serious topics, yes, but I hate the sudden, rash changes as well that seem to be doing nothing but make people mad.

Tada, here are two options.
1) Cynic and I go ahead and do change "x" (without asking for opinions). This will make people mad as they didn't like the change and some people won't want it. Some will, as there was some need for a change in order for a change to be made.
2) We wait a while, wait for "enough people" to respond, and unless we wait forever, someone's still going to be left out. Then there will be people on both sides of the issue, liking the change and not liking the change. Then these people will argue back and forth on the change, the admin will finally pick one of the changes, and the people who didn't win will still be upset. Nothing was changed except the time taken to make the decision (so people still end up mad... see there's not much different?).
Option #1 saves a lot more time. Guess what? Nothing's permanent. Things can be changed back at later times. The actions taken this past weekend have been a culmination of events that finally needed some change to be brought; and guess what - people didn't like it. Oh, well;
not everything we do will be liked by everyone.
Regarding the first post of changing the stuff, maybe Cynic and I should have talked about it privately and not given you guys any say, then you wouldn't feel left out. Both Cynic and I thought it was a good idea, and gave it a trial run. The trial run didn't work so it got changed back.
Sure we probably were a little quick on the decision, but hey, we're just as perfect as everyone else here too.
Tada's post is good though
, because it's suggesting a way we can improve the forum instead of just complaining about it.
So, I guess we'll open it up, thoughts everyone?

Woah, careful there. While I agree Tada's post is good, with a statement like that you're really downplaying what a lot of people are saying. I think some of us (like myself) are genuinely upset with what happened and we are trying to give feedback, not complain. I realize you are taking a lot of flak for this, but you are in that position of authority so well, that's what's going to happen. We aren't against you or cynic, but you can't argue we don't have a good basis for our confusion and at least mild irritations and we want some explanations. Please don't discount what we say as mere complaint. You could always do what the politicians do and try to create a confusing chain of command that limits liability, at least

Anyhow, I of course agree. My main upset is the short duration that most of these ideas have seen before they became enacted.

I wasn't saying the rest were horrible (sorry if it came across that way), I just don't have time to go through each one right now, and his happened to be a good one. :-)

So does this mean you aren't going to hire on 100+ cabinet officials immediately?
Anyhow, I was just over-reacting a bit. =P I know you didn't mean ill-will towards the other posts.

Well, if we did, we'd still have 21 slots open, so I don't think there'd be anyone else to properly look over.

This is a community. It shouldn't be run on biases of any kind. Your personal opinions definitely have to take a backseat to what the community thinks. Also, keep in mind that the people you don't know IRL are just as much a part of this community as the ones you do. I feel like I'm ignored a lot because only a couple people here have known me at all outside this side, and only 4 have met me by any medium other than the internet.

True, there probably will be some people left out. However, it is much better to have the opinions of 90% of the forum members than 10%. The floor should have been left open for at least two days in my opinion. At least then, that gives everyone a fair chance to find the topic and put in their two cents. Opening and closing the floor for opinions on the change within a time span that could easily be eaten up by homework, a great video game, or a work shift was not smart. People may not have even had a chance to access the boards within the time the floor was open.
