I passed PSM heavy kind of drunk last night.

Ok, I don't really feel accomplished for that. I just thought it was special and wanted to share.

Failed miserably at Pandemonium Ex Doubles and VerTex Ex Doubles.

BUT I raised my score on Tell on Tribal Style Doubles by about 1& each.

I've lasted 4 weeks without DDR. 8)

I've lasted about three months without DDR.

Only about three days without ITG though.

I don't believe in any noteworthy difference.

Same game, different layout.

It's like saying DDR Extreme CS isn't the same as all the others, just because it's laid out so horrendously.

I've lasted nearly a year without DDR.

That is, if you count from when I was 8 to when I was 9; I guess my mom thought dancing games were bad for me, and that I shouldn't play them.

I've gone over a year before (October 1999 - December 2000).

I've hardly even been playing for a year.

Though technically, I once went nearly 14 years without playing DDR.
I first actually tried playing a bit over 2 years ago, and then I started actually playing a year ago.

Actually, as dumb as this sounds, I think the problem is not that it's early per say, but that the music is laggy. In other words, it works visually, but I'm a bad visual player, see what I'm getting at?

Zalf and I got halfway through bang a long time ago. It has some really hard to read parts in it, though the stepchart isn't too hard.  Splitting that rhythm to two people is really hard.

Anyways, I'm doing a stamina building class in school right now, and I've already gotten results by passing 9 11's in 4 consecutive sets. Grades started good and than begin to majorly get crappy, but I actually got through the 9th one. I tried 10, but I failed Hardcore Symphony because I was tired (Curse you stamina!!!)

At mt rainier the p.e. teacher (siner) made us run 1 3/4 miles every other day and we had to do it in less than 12 minutes to get an A for the day :(

when i was in texas for "a" school, we ran 4-6 miles every other day (just on the weekdays). it didn't build my stamina much for stomping games :( what makes you faster at running is if you run more. [edit to make myself more clear] what makes you have more stamina for dancing games is if you play more

it was really fun cause we had 3 gymnasiums (2 dedicate bball courts and one for wrestlers) and would run up stairs and downstairs through each gym and the teacher would just sit in a chair.  once we got out of site we would just hang out in one of the empty gyms and do nothing

Wow... my high school didn't have any requirements for how good you had to be... You just had to improve over time.  I would have been screwed if I went to any of your high schools... especially in stuff that requires arm strength.  I cannot even do one pull-up. :(

People at my middle school were lazy bastards.  We had to run as many laps as possible with 6+ being an A, and only 3 of us did it.  Sad.

Hmm... 12 minutes for 1.5 miles (assuming a 400m track like my school)?  That really doesn't seem that hard, but other than the Pacer, I haven't had a chance to see the effects of DDR on school fitness activities.  Tai chi and yoga classes don't really give you a chance to test that, and my puny arms were scared of the other path (weight lifting).

Maybe we should organize a PNW Bemani community fitness tournament. :P

Yes, I have tried it.

It's ridiculous.

The hands are the easiest part, but only if you know EXACTLY how to do them, which I of course do.

And TECHNICALLY every single pattern is possible and has no double steps.

That being said, I don't think anyone in the community will pass it anytime soon. I get about 25% in. (Well past the hands, which I find easy now.)

Sorry, the only arcades I go to regularly are purely Arcade/Theaters, so I don't think about such things.

Yeah I hit a mine like 5 seconds from the end, it was kind of lame.
Also a LOT of my ex's were in 8th notes, I think I have a legit shot at 99ing it.
Also pickles has 4e on vertex if you didn't know.  He's really good.

What the.....?? That is so broken. VerTex has a bunch of reasons to drop more than 4ex. Drills, tempo changes, NOT good sync......seriously, that is one of the best scores out there.

I've already A'd it on DDRMAX CS (could probably AA it when I finish putting my pad back together), but CS scores are generally ignored by the didder public; that was an arcade score; I'll update my DDRecall (Dancing Tofu) one day, but until then, you guys can laugh at how much I sucked in November. :)

i went to the majestic lanes near my place to play extreme and i did one set because the p1 side is horrible and the p2 side had a nasty glare but was somewhat playable. anyways, i got 1 great 1 miss on max 300 and 1 great 3 misses on paranoia rebirth

Lol, I'll just say what's on my mind. Anyone on these boards who says they suck at dancing games (and I'm guilty of this a lot) is either being emo, stupid, or fishing for compliments. ALL of us are better than 95% of people who have walked onto a DDR pad and tried a song, and most everybody would say we're good at the game. Sure, in COMPARISON to others who play we may suck, but honestly we're all at least good at dancing games.

I actually haven't been playing DDR much at all lately either.  Normally I at least go to the arcade every weekend, but I've only been once in Feb and twice in Jan.  (the second time I only played 6 songs before running out of money, so i'm not sure it really counts)

I need to get my homepads fixed and start playing again so that I can have huge quadriceps like I did in December. =(

as far as ITG accomps goes, I've finally passed both GO *60* GO EX and Ver-Tex Expert. ALso, I played RobotiX for the first time today (on Pad, I've played it a couple times on keyboard), and almost FC'd it, missed some right at the end towards where the pauses are. legs were to tired to consistantly get a combo. I think it helped that i played (and failed misaerably) Summer SM EX right before, so RobotiX seemed very easy at that point.
also, these were all done on Stepmania, with my TX4000 and the ITG2 theme ^_^!.
DDR: passed FELM, SMMMO, CHAOSO, HDVO (nearly a FC), and PSM is a FC.

How can anyone who can almost FC HDVO fail Summer?

UI was talking about Summer ~Speedy Mix~ from ITG2. HDVO (IMHO) is only like an 11 (even though DDR refuses to rate anything higher than 10). Summer ~Speedy Mix~ is a 13. It's the 1/16 stream towards the middle that kills me. i can get about 80% through that part, and if I did ever get throught that parts, it would be the 16th notes with doubles that come later that would kill me. HDVO is not that hard, and I'm used to the speed of it by now since I play almost every song i can with X2 on.

Thanks, that was my point so I totally agree. The first half of the song is stupid easy, then it gets around to an 11/hard 11 range, but then it just gets stupid.

Like 13 type stupid.

By ITG scaling, I'd say the first half is an easy to solid 10, then before the runs it's already pushing solid 12, and the run is harder than pretty much anything in ITG, except the last 3 seconds of vertex^2.

1) You obviously don't know what "good" really is.
2) No one else cares if we are good or not, dont delude yourself. You can't use figures like this when that 95% couldn't caer less. It's more like PNW players are better than perhaps 35% of ITG/DDR players out there.
3) Most of us are not consistent enough to be good. I am not a good player. I suck because I lack consistency.
4) You can't make a comparison between us and people who just walked on a pad.
5) People say we are good because they don't have a critical eye for what makes a good player.

I wasn't really being elite. If you look closely, I said that I'm guilty of saying that I suck a lot. I am one of the worst forum-using players in the PNW and I know that from tournaments and score comparisons.

1) There are different levels of good. Just because we may not hold the same opinion doesn't mean I DON'T know what good is. If good is being consistent on your Summer score between 20 and 18 Excellents, I would tend to say you're better than just "good". In fact, adjectives such as "great" or "masterful" would probably not be out of the question. Why is FC'ing LoM NOT good anymore? Many of us can or have done it on these boards. Is that not good? I know that good is a somewhat relative adjective, and to some extent I addressed that, but saying I don't know what "good" really is isn't completely fair.

2) I never said people truly cared how good we were believe it or not. All of my friends hate it when I talk anything about DDR or make sure to avoid arcades at all costs when they're around me because they think DDR is the stupidest thing ever and couldn't care less that I can play it at the level I do. That being said, all of my friends consider my "good" or "crazy" at DDR. Thus, it is less of a delusion than realizing that others may recognize a skill set we have. Everyone I have ever talked to that has played DDR (Probably over 100 people) think it's completely awesome I "play Heavy OMG". Thus, that 95% I was talking about might actually care more than you think. Note none of my friends play, so they don't care, other random people at school and regulars at my arcades do. Also, I don't know how we rank with other players out there, but I tend to believe skill is a pyramid where most people suck and a few people are masterful. Thus, 35% isn't completely accurate again because we shouldn't only include the vocal minority of forum browsers that show off there scores and make us look bad. Sure, then we'd probably be 35%, if not lower, but most ITG/DDR players, even people who play it fairly often, get stuck around the 9/10 range.

3) Again, I think the whole "good" issue is relative. Can you sightread a 10? Many people would consider that good. Consistency is probably one of the best qualities in an ITG/DDR player, I agree. However, while you may not consistantly get 99%, youmay consistantly get above 9X.XX%. You yourself may not consider it good, but cheerleaders often think they're fat. It doesn't mean they are, heck, they rarely are, but since there are thinner cheerleaders than them somewhere else, they think consider themselves fat since they see it as relative. Same thing applies to ITG. The cheerleaders aren't fat, and you aren't bad.

4) Ok, I'll try not to make a comparison again, but the point of my comparison was to show that many people walk onto a pad and are totally utterly lost. Many of us I assume (and I know assumptions are terrible) walked onto a pad and at least understood some rhythmic concept. No, it's not completely fair to make a comparison, but I was just trying to be inclusive about all people who have played dancing games and show the extremes of both sides.

5) What they see is a player vastly better than them, and thus they consider that player to be good. It is NOT a wrong judgement for them to make. Again, it's a matter of the word "good" being relative.

Essentially, I don't see any error in the post you tried to rip apart. Am I being elite? You can think that all you want, whatever. I'm worse than basically everyone here on the forum, it doesn't mean I'm not better than most people who play. You can take that as elitism or a compliment to you, your choice.

btw, on Gaia (flame me, whatever, I just go there for kicks), I'm in a DDR guild and there are only about 5 members out of many thousand who can compare to the majority of people here.

The only real way to determine a demographic of who's good is to take the majority opinion.  By the majority opinion, I'm a DDR god.  In the opinions of most people here though, I'm a n00b.

there is no way HDVO is a 13. I can't pass 13s. I can barely pass two 12s. I passed HDVO no problem (yep even the fast part) no problem my first or second try. there is absolutely NO WAY you can call that a 13 (though you obviously already have). I suppose we are all entitled to our pwn opinions.

well the ending of HDVO is definitely worthy of a 13 :\
but as for rating the entire song, i'd call it a 12 (itg standards)

A song should not be rated by one person's ability to do well on it, but by comparison to other songs of other ratings through math to calculate speed or stamina drain.

And yes, you can use math.

HDVO has a 12 step per second crossover candle stream for multiple measures.

Even if YOU'RE quite adept at going through this song, which is possible, note that Summer is a 13 because of it's 16th streams at 185 without candles or crossovers.

Now take a stream at virtually the same speed with candles and crossovers....and you want me to rate it as an 11?

Take The Beginning for example. It has candle crossovers.......at 132  (264 if Konami made the chart) This is then compared to HDVO's 360  (180 if Roxor made the chart)


Ok, well then it it's completely out of the league of a good solid 11, let's move on to 12's.

Take Bloodrush. Bloodrush is NOT hard because it's overly fast, other 12's and even 11's are faster than Bloodrush. Why then is Bloodrush considered a hard 12? Probably due to the candley crossovers  *Gasp*

Now you see, if Bloodrush is considered such a hard 12 with candley crossovers at 158, why should HDV be lumped in the same category when Roxor toyed with the idea of rating Bloodrush as a 13 anyway?

Now then, if you're arguement is that most of the song is too easy to merit a 13 and thus it the easy parts should balance it out, let me give you some examples.

Delirium
Determinator
Vertex2
Mythology

All three of these songs do not really display the difficulty rating they are assigned for MOST of the chart, or at least the first half. Delirium is like a hard 10 easy 11 until that one stupid stream, and then I argue that it isn't a low-end 12 but a solid benchmark 12 just due to the focus needed for a 259 note 16th stream. Determinator is like a 10 for most of the chart, though an arguement could be made that the 7-note bursts would bring it up to an 11. Ok, it's an 11 then.....EXCEPT for the gay stream in the middle and the shorter stream at the end. Again, this is considered one of the harder 12's, even though it takes about as much stamina as Kagami. Vertex2 is also obvious in why it is a 13. From the bassrush on (a little past the halfway point) the song gets nuts. Before that, it's pathetic. It starts off at around a 10, then changes to an 11 and POSSIBLY a low-end 12 due to technicality before the hand drills and freeze arrows, then all bets are off. Mythology is a fairly easy 10 for most of the chart, but the end runs are definitely deserving of it's 11 rating.

HDV is the same way. It starts off at a high 9 or low 10 until the speed up where it turns into a high-end 11 and then just gets stupid crazy fast.

Remember, it's like Summer (Rated 13 for speed) only with candles and crossovers.



My last point should not be taken the wrong way. I'm not trying to be a fanboy here, so don't accuse me of that. James is quite capable of passing every 13 in ITG, and thus has a decent feel for what a 13's intensity is like. Again, you can have your opinions. I personally find Infection to be one of the easiest 11's in the game, but mathematically you can kind of see a song's difficulty. HDV is probably best suited at a 13 rating.

You simply can't rate songs.  Everyone's going to have their own strengths and weaknesses.  It's like classifying spiral galaxies.  Even professional astronomers can give the same galaxy drastically different ratings.  Some people think I underrate my sims, while others think I overrate them.

Also, you simply can't really quantify how technical something is.  You can't even really quantize stamina drain, since there is no real way of measuring how much stamina someone has or what percentage of that stamina you have left.  There are so many other outside factors that can make you tired or not.

The only real way I could see to quantify songs is to track a clear rate, and every song between x and y clear rate is rated a z.

It's funny, because the difference between 10's through 13's seems to be nothing but the degree of chaos, the length of the 16th streams, and the bpm.

So pretty much just stamina beyond 11's.

The hardest part of a song dictates its difficulty for the most part, because those numbers generally indicate how hard a song is to clear. ITGs 13s aren't technically difficult, they're just stamina draining.  HDVO's 360bpm section is harder than any 15 second chunk of ITG 13s except the very end of vertex^2.

I'm of the opinion that bloodrush and determinator are both far too difficult to be a 12, anyway.

No real way except practice.  Some people have said alternate toe-heel or use both feet, but that's just far too error-prone for me.  You can practice it anywhere, hopefully in private, unless you really don't care what people think of you.

Taps?  As in jackhammers?

I find it easiest to flick foot rapidly, but then again, I get combo breakers on Mellow, so don't take my advice. ;P

Licensing probably wouldn't be it; the music is already on the machine, you just need to unlock it. Also, the boss songs are created by in-house Konami artists, which means they own the licenses.

Aren't we talkin' AC versions here?  I don't get why old PS2's are holding back SN AC from having a decent amount of boss songs. :?

ASuperNOVA doesn't have background videos, unless you count that crap that's made of basic video loops in variable colours.
Also, the BG dancers on SN don't have uber good graphics.  Good graphics would be FFXII.  When the background dancers look like FF cutscene quality, I'll say they have good graphics.

I doubt 300 2-minute songs + graphics + "movies" + stepcharts + code is pushing 4.3 gigs.  Extreme was able to cram about the same size song list, and actual movies onto 700 MB.  The songs would have to be at a damn high quality.  Also, a PS2 obviously isn't preventing Europe or Japan from using E-amuse.

Konami made the mistake of not including an unlock system and instead used the messy update disc idea. It has nothing to do with hardware or cost; the songs are already on there and are playable as extra stage and in courses as it is. They'll be selectable in SN2, don't worry. And chances are they'll have eamuse for it in the US as well, what with IIDX Gold coming out. And if anyone's wondering, the update disc was 3.9gb, IIRC.

accomp: i got matsuri japan as random extra stage and got 15 perfects in a row while looking at the pad then quit.

It's probably similar to an installer, where they always say the disk is full when in reality the actual content makes up a small fraction of the disc's total space...

Either that, or Betson REALLY sucks at space efficiency.

I didn't see any AAA's yesterday.  That makes me sad, butthat (typo spotted, but I have decided to leave it uncorrected because it's so close to AssHat) alone was nowhere near enough to make the day anything less than amazing.

This past week and a half I've been focusing heavily on getting AAA's on all DDR SuperNova songs on the Beginner and Basic levels (they were already all AA's, but I focused on more difficult levels and didn't really work in earnest to make them AAA's) My tally is now 42 AAA's, picking up ten alone today.

By the time I clear this field, I'll be taking the game dramatically to the next level and aim to further AA, even AAA if I can Difficult and even Expert level tracks, though I expect it'll be a while longer before I AAA the more advanced levels (particularly six-footers and above)

I already have A's on as high as eight-footer tracks, and AA's on as high as six-footer tracks, and now my next goal is to improve timing and coordination on more advanced step sequences, as well as convert many of the Greats I pick up on the Expert level into Perfects.

I couldn't be happier where I've gone in just four months of earnest play, where I used to wonder if it would take a whole year to get an A on the Expert level, which I did in two months. Then I used to wonder if it would take a whole year to get an AA on the Difficult level, which I did in three and a half months. I can only imagine how I'll grow from here. :)

So, I almost got my Prototype working today, but the temporary setup I had going with electrical tape wasn't cutting it, and the panels are kind of floppy.  I'm going to play with the design some more, maybe change my plug design if necessary, and hopefully I'll be in business by next week. =)

I won a prett badass didder tourney yesterday. Double elim, I didn't get eliminated once ;P. It was score based though. songs 1 p1 picks song, p2 picks difficulty. song 2 p2 picks song p1 picks difficulty. song 3 expert random. total scores for the three songs decides winner of that rounds. any mods are allowed. It was fun meeting new players and such and leaving with 2 unltimate day passes to bumpers, and the didder 3rd mix Marquee XD. That''s an accomplishment.

This was the first week of my Spring 2007 term at Portland State University, but I still managed to pick-up 19 more AAA's this week on DDR SuperNova (Beginner and Basic-Level levels, 1 to 4 footers) bringing my total to 50. :)

Within the next week I expect to have almost cleared the Beginner and Basic Level field with AAA scores, and once again focus on improving my more advanced game. :)

I can say I've AAA'd something. I got kind lady (my first AAA) a while ago. I just can't get anymore. And I've BF'd some of those like a buh-jeellion times (Rainbow rainbow, Silence, Un deux Trois) but i can't seem to come any closer to AAAing them. >:F

Well, actually I was getting at the fact that I've only AA'd 3-4 songs.  And those are all stepmania.  However, with marvelous timing on I've gotten somewhere around 10 AAs. . . no AAA's though.

I look back on that and punch myself for wasting 3 weeks trying to get an A on it.

Nope.  Max 300's 573 combo is from the old system, where jumps gave 2 for the combo count, but only one for the judgment count.  I think it has a total of 530 or so judgment steps.

It's just a pain in the ass. First time (first time playing it too) was right before the one gallop, second time was sometime in the beginning, third time was in the last twenty steps or something, and I gave up when I got one on the fifth step or something the next time. ARRGH.

Yeah.  I generally never play a song more than once in one day.
Unless I feel that I got a really shitty score on it.  Like once when I was at the arcade and got a B on Drop The Bomb.  I played it again and got a shitty AA.  (this was forever ago.  I'd strangle a 4-year-old if I got a B on Drop The Bomb now, unless I was freestyling.

Glad to hear you finally got your first Difficult AAA!  What song? (my first was Shining Polaris on DDRMax)

White Lovers is one of two (maybe three, now that I think about it) songs that I've gotten all Perfects and an NG on. SO MUCH RAGE. I didn't AAA it until like a couple weeks after that incident I think.

The song's titled "Balalaika, Carried With The Wind". :) It's a five-footer on Dance Dance Revolution SuperNova! :)

The version I play is slightly different from other DDR installations, in that though the difficulties and most things are the same as always, jump arrows have the same point value as single arrows, and Greats are worth half the score of a Perfect and you get no points for Good, Almost or Boo (although if you get a Good, your life meter won't decrease)

I'm on the cusp of AAA on three other tracks on the Difficult level (most tracks on the Difficult level are 5-6 footers). They are "Since U Been Gone" (five-footer), "Turn On The Music" (five-footer) and "Curus" (four footer). :)

Shivers (Radio Edit) was My first Difficult AAA. Balalaika (carried with the wind) is an annoying song, cause I can BF it sdo easily on expert, but i CANNOT for the life of me AAA it V.V

I BF'd Dragonfly on my first try, and now I can barely SDG it; it's crazy.

I don't think I've gotten any AAA's at all on SNOVA, although I have a shitload of BF's and SDG's.

no offense to you at all, but why is it that people love talking about all the AAAs they can get on beginner and basic? I mean, difficult is an accomplishment I guess, but what about Heavy AAAs? Isn't that what made the AAA so legendary in the first place?

Joel is right.  I know it's cool when you start getting AAA's, but you should also remember to keep expanding your difficulty as well.  I think at this point you're quite capable of AAA'ing any non-boss song on beginner and light, but I want to start seeing you get some A's and AA's on Heavy [expert] and Oni [challenge].

Have you considered getting SM?  The syncing's kind of wonky on newer versions, but it's a great way to drastically increase and customise your songlist for little or no money.

I believe every AAA is something to be proud of, regardless of the level of difficulty, because you are left with the feeling on that particular track, you couldn't have done any better (of course, you can look better by advancing your freestyle technique to it, LOL!)

I certainly have no intention of settling for too little and not raising the bar higher and going for further AAA's on Difficult and eventually the Expert and Challenge levels, but I believe every AAA is a major accomplishment, even on the easier levels. :)

Actually, that song's one of the hardest 9's I've ever played.  I'd put it right up there with So Deep and Cartoon Heroes, although I've got a AA on Fantasy Melissa because that song makes me feel really energetic and the steps are great with the music.

First, AAA count is now 115, with 68 Beginner, 45 Basic, 2 Difficult (picked up my 2nd Difficult AAA on the five-footer "Since U Been Gone"). So I'm coming close to sweeping the list on the Basic level, and then will focus wholeheartedly on the Standard/Difficult level, then the Heavy/Expert level. :)

A is not easy.
Getting greats on easy parts and "being able" to AAA one part of a song don't equal a full AAA. You have to be able to nail every single part consistently and get it all to come together in one run. It's really not that easy at all, especially not on Absolute.

Just AAA Kind Lady, jesus, the song is like not even a 7.

Was planning on getting my first AAA on dream a dream, just since it was the first heavy song I passed, but that's a good one to try too.

Easy AAA = songs that I whore.

I won't AAA Kind Lady 'cause I play it less than 4 times a year.

I play A and Absolute all the time 'cause I like them.  They're both easy stepcharts too; nothing in them is "hard" at all.  They're both a bunch of repeated rhythms with minimal/no crossovers, and easy speed changes. (The slowdown at the end of Absolute isn't hard, just tedious, and patience AAA's it)


Regardless, Look to the Sky (True Colors Mix) is gonna be my first AAA unless something comes speeding in from left field, 'cause it's the only song I can get a consistent grade on, other than A [oni], which is a consistent ~35 greats. (not in my AAA range)

I think it's harder to AAA if you haven't played/practiced all the heavy charts, because then one only can specialize in certain types of charts. Or maybe I'm being quick to assume that you only specialize in certain charts. Or maybe all that won't matter. Actually, everyone starts out with AAAing less complex songs, soo... since you aren't doing that, good luck and have fun with that, heh. :)

Phylicia, I do sort of "specialise", but not how you're thinking.  I have about 80 or so songs that I play regularly, 30 or so songs that I play often, and maybe 10 songs that I play every time I go to the arcade.
Today was the first time I ever really played seriously; normally I just pick songs I like and never play the same song twice in one day.

I too have made some notable movement this weekend. I'm RIGHT on the cusp of my first AA on the Expert level (called the Heavy level on earlier versions) for "Funkytown", a seven-footer. I'm within four-tenths of a percent from the achievement (about 94.6% the current score)

I also picked up my fourth and fifth AAA's on the Difficult level ("Let's Dance", "Kagerow (Dragonfly)") :) That brings my total AAA count to 139 (69 Beginner, 65 Basic, 5 Difficult)

Anyways, went to NT to get some new scores, and $22.00 worth of tokens (prize from tourny) was stolen, so not much new in the arcade score area. V.V

My current top score on "Shivers (Radio Edit)" on the Standard/Difficult level is 90.7%. :)

It is fascinating how some tracks come easier or harder to some than others. I haven't gotten even a AA on that track yet while you've dominated it, while I have AAA'd "Balalaika, Carried With The Wind" while another said the same track on the same level has proven to be annoying, etc.

and your resoning behind this is? In my opinion, Vertex^2 brought alot of new challenges to ITG, that previous 13s didn't. Although I have not passed any 13's as of yet (still working on getting more 12s) But the other 2 13's are mostly 13s because of the stamina necessary to pass it, but V^2 brought with it some interesting time changes, and some difficult step patterns, like the beginning part having a freeze and having to double step with the other foot. There was plenty about that song that was not only challenging, but new, for 13s at least.

Wow, I played a marathon of Dance Dance Revolution at home this weekend, including 5 1/2 hours today of it, and made a handful of new achievements:

*

1) Achieved my first Expert-level AA on DDR SuperNova ("Video Killed The Radio Star"), with being just 4/10's of one percent from AA on another track.

2) Picked up six new A's on more challenging Expert-level tracks I previously had B's on.

3) I now have either AAA'd or AA'd over half of the tracks (thirty-eight) on the Difficult level (called Standard level on other games)

4) Burned a whopping 2,186 calories on the Workout Mode (in retrospect, although a huge physical achievement, it's probably not the achievement I want at the moment as I battle mild anorexia. Still, very good for blood circulation and coordination)

I had the opportunity to play PIU Pro today, I don't know if I would go so far as to say I was impressed, but I definitely thought it an improvement on what is out currently :)  The speed mods definitely threw me off, I tried to play Energizer on 1.5 and could hardly read it though I play it on 2x with ITG!  

The overall look and feel of the machine is awesome, and watching people play it looks like they have definitely improved upon the videos that play in the background (not that that is a significant part of the game, but still).    

I suck at reading the arrow patterns, timing, and can't do the steps right the majority of the time, so when I get that down I think it will be more fun for me.  Here a couple scores I can remember (my not terrible scores).  If anyone was planning on meeting me Saturday, I can't go anymore which is why I went today :'(

Delirium is not the easiest to pass really, you should be able to get stuff like VerTex and Go 60 Go. I passed Euphoria as my first 12, but a lot of other people find it hard to pass, but yeah, Delirium is not the easiest to pass so you should probably be able to get others.

ive never tried vertex on foot, but i played it on sm and highly doubt i can pass it, euphora im waiting, along with bloodrush, go 60 go i get tired on, even thoguh i pulled otu delirium without too much trouble.

im the kind of player that has tons of stamina and is really good at streams, i don tknow but i really suck at all the rest XD, besides now that ive 'officially' passed a 12, im going to start workin on accuracy, its pretty sad i can clear delirium but not b e able to star a 2 step

Okay.  I haven't played it in ages, and that was back when I was still having trouble with stuff like PS and Max 300, so I don't have a good memory of it except that everything except the jacks are tough ten at best.

the jacks?  How about the 8 consecutive 15 note runs of 160bpm 16th notes?  I'm not so sure that can fly as a 10...

I've never gotten that far.  Last time I tried it, I gave up by the beginning of the left foot jacks.

James, I'm looking at the chart now, and those streams really don't look like 11's to me.  They're all pretty straightforward, no crossovers, and realistically, not that fast or long.  Across the Nightmare oni's ending stream is 24 notes long and only 10bpm slower, and it's only mid-9 difficulty in my book.  The only possible issue there is Stamina due to how many sets of them there are, but even there I'd be hesitant to put it on the same level as other 11's I've tried just for the stamina drain.

However, the gallop/jump things near the end do look pretty difficult, again just looking at the chart.

Anyways, did you notice that there are 8 runs in a row? As opposed to AtNO's one? Oh, and did you notice that AtNO is just drills and not actually true runs? Oh, and did you notice that it's not 10 BPM slower but 16? (32 if you calculated Utopia up to 332 and kept AtN at 300).

You're right in saying that Utopia is not on the same level as other 11's because it is a low-end 11, but the runs alone make it pretty hard to pass for a 10 and the right foot crap makes it very hard to score for a 10.

I personally think Charlene could be a 10, one of the hardest 10's, and that's the only 11 at the border. There are plenty of 10's at the border according to many people, though.

DDR's ratings and ITG's ratings aren't the same.  ATN on ITG would definitely be a 10.  Actually I take it back, ITG has a lot of inconsistencies so maybe not definitely.  Konoko would be a 10 though.

I'd say that if anything, ITG's ratings are tougher than DDR's.

Again, it could just be that I'm unaccustomed to Mines and Hands, but I find a lot of 9's (Lemmings on the Run) that are about the same difficulty as many of the 10's on DDR.  Although there are also some 10's (Liquid Moon) that are about on par with stuff like AtM and V, so I can agree with you that it's inconsistent.

I wouldn't call AtM a 10 under any circumstances because it's just not that difficult.  The handfull of streams are as easy as the easiest in Max 300, arguably the easiest true 10 (after taking out Sakura and Xepher), and the jump section is fairly easy if you just listen to the music.  And besides those parts, it's actually easier than stuff like Breakdown, Xenon, A, and a lot of other solid 9's.

Grr, I don't like how this thread's becoming a discussion about the accuracy of a lot of song ratings.  Let's all agree to put in a couple last words and then go back to accomplishments.

Lemmings is like marginally harder than drop out.  I especially don't see how it's harder than ATNO (whose jumps are not easy when you listen to the music because the rhythm is incorrect).  AtN is a really hard 9 on DDR.  By DDR standards I'd probably keep it there but on ITG it's border.

The one statement I really wanted to fight with was "Max 300, arguably the easiest true 10 (after taking out Sakura and Xepher),".. you can't just make Sakura and Xepher fake 10s.  They're 10s.  Both are harder than a vast majority of the 9s on the game, and in xepher's case, harder than every single one of the 9s (Sakura too if you take into consideration speed changes).  Obviously, sakura and xepher are "arguably the easiest 10s," with 300 coming after that.  What you're doing is essentially changing the rating system.  If you're going to rate something within it's given rating, you can't move songs around to arbitrarily call it the easiest.

You can't do that.  Spokane is in WA, and thus, according to this post, is the shittiest WA city (10), and not an ID city (9).  Therefore Federal Way is NOT the shittiest WA city.

James, I guess you're right.  It just seems like some 9's (Cartoon Heroes, So Deep, Captain Jack) are harder than Xepher or Sakura.
Although I can score better on Max 300 than I can on Cartoon Heroes, so it could just be that I'm a wonky guy. :P

I think some songs rating is judged not solely by their passing difficulty, but there scoring difficulty as well.

Sakura is easier to pass than high end DDR 9's such as HVAM, Orion.78 Civ, Cartoon Heroes, etc..., but hell, if Sakura isn't hard to AAA with it's gay 14 BPM arrow and offsync slowdown. I think it's harder to AAA than any 9, and yes, I've played them all.

Same goes for Bag, dur!

Anyways, I should just stop about the rating things. We all know there are a few songs with controversial ratings or all around bad judgement in how they were rated (TL100S shouldn't be an 8, nor should Daikenkai Oni), but human error exists and all in all, the rating system is "more like guidelines then actually rules."

on ddr extreme, if you switch to another oni course and hit start before the song list changes, it'll use the difficulties of the other course instead. so you can do things like go from naoki neo standard to legend road and play max300 and maxx unlimited on standard instead of heavy. but be sure not to glitch an oni only song to another difficulty. the machine will reboot.

How do you get Stepmania to give you a AAA when you get a great?  It doesn't seem to give me a AAA no matter how many marvelouses I have  if I have 1 great.

Hmmm, congradulations on your AAAs. I also have quite a few on Stepmania and home versions, and besides, I'm a purist and I only count arcade AAAs as part of my total.

Default = j4 = easy
j6 is fairly close to Arcade timing, although it's not perfect on the newer versions.

gj anyway, but try those on j6 or j5 if you want more valid scores, and always include your judgment level when posting SM accomps.

I agree Ethan. Someone told me J6 was arcade timing, but I've been to an arcade at least 100 times, and every time I play J6 on SM, I get significantly more greats. I think arcade timing is around J4.5 honestly. 4 seems a little too loose, and 5 a tad tight.

I try to be as accurate as I can, and on the default timing settings, it did feel a tad loose (though I haven't played at a good arcade for a while now so I'm not exactly certain if my PA just went up, which is what I'm hoping :P)

I don't know if that's right or not. Try it out and see how it feels.  I'm absolutely certain that marv/perf are correct, about 90% sure on great, but good and boo I'm not sure.

Actually played on a dedicab today, at *shocker* Seaside! Where all the scores were apparently wiped with the installation of R21, meaning every and any score was easy to take. Re-did a bunch of scores and got some new ones that kind of surprised me. So some of these aren't new.

Pick Me Up and Tango- 99.79 3e, which is pretty tight considering I never tristarred this before. I guess the steps are pretty DDR-like so that might have something to do with it. Will quad if I get access to a dedicab again.

Got my first star on ITG.  96.xx% on THE BEGINNING easy.  Yeah, my PA isn't as good as a lot of other people's.  I honestly was just trying to get a star, lol.

On Extra Stage or no? Either way good lord that's impressive. Please teach me to do some of the sections. It's the 'Left-Up-Down Down+Left Down+Up' and the vice versa after that which kills me, I feel like I have to retrain myself to do those. Then there's always one part in the run that some how I can't move my feet fast enough (Measures 103-104 I think).

James I think you could murder TLOM double, maybe not SDG but seriously get <20.

As for single, I dunno. I can consistently get like two or three greats before the slowdown, two or three in the slowdown, and then all the rest are in the runs at the end or sprinkled in the 424 424 424 part. If I can just stop getting slightly fatigued before that part I could SDG it I think... it's not very hard.

when i said I got 4/4/1 in each section, i meant 4 up to "that part before the freeze", 4 in "that part before the freeze", and 1 "after the freeze including the slow part."  The one was in one of the runs leading up to the big one, can't remember which.

I do a very typical ghost stepping for the slow part

it's slow enough that you can just add steps anywhere just to keep the beat, but it's definitely easier than just waiting.  I do it on double too, since the rhythm there is the same.

Brother Mojo's Aerodynamic simfile. Yep, it follows the guitar solo. This is my first 98 on any 11 ever, even though it's not official. I'm so glad to have my stamina back, and now that my FA is a lot better the two have come together nicely.

James, I know those were all one try.  But I do think you should be able to consistently do a bit better on Max and Sakura.  Maybe it was because it was on a SNova cab.  I don't know how the syncing compares for old songs, but I know that the sound systems on SuperNOVA dedis are pretty crappy.

a couple of things
1) SN synching doesn't bother me on most songs
1a) here's a couple that I know it does on [compared to extreme]: vanity angel,... wait just vanity angel
2) I actually don't play 10 footers all the time... or at all, really.  I dunno, I thought they were alright scores for consistency, but maybe they weren't.

1) Didn't bother me either back when I played homeversions.

2) Yeah, I figured.  I don't know anyone as good as you who just plays 10's and up all the time.

And I don't want you to feel like I'm shooting down those scores.  They're all quite phenomenal.
