I play for exercise too, but it kinda gets boring for me if I don't make the game fun somehow other than just exercise. That's why I like competition because It gives you more motivation like it gives Gerrak and me to keep playing.

Anyways its not always about competition, but playing itg/ddr alone is boring for me. So that's why you guys gotta get out there more!

Hopefully sn2 will make you guys come down and play more until it gets boring again. Tongue

Lol, I've taken a huge break from ITG. November was the last time I was going to acme consistently. I needed a break though, because it was becoming a chore and no fun, but I'm going to start coming back in the coming weeks to smash some 16th note runs.

Depending on how good bills SN2 machine is, I'll be at acme more often then ever.

You guys should check out the SN2 at Pink Gorilla though. it's beast. Beast enough for me to almost full combo Fascination MAXX.

Yeah SN2 is basically the best. I got 5 greats on Volcano.

I'm gonna be frank, if you're just playing DDR and not playing mostly hard 10's constantly, with few breaks, it's nothing special for exercise. If you play long songs/hard songs on ITG and nothing but, or do HIIT on ITG, that can be good. I guess the other option would be to stomp really hard, but still it's not as good as running other cardio.

IN TOKYO, been hanging out mostly with Kaze/Hudson, Aaron (in Japan) and Akudaikan, all of whom are bros.

#237- Surrender Your Love (22p, team AAA'd with Kaze)
#238- rainbow flyer (28p)

AM-3P groove radar- 6g FC, the e-amuse record is like 1g and bad MA so I'm going to try and take it (as is Kaze)
Brilliant2U groove radar- 2g on a random with a slow speed mod, must get
Centaur- 44p 1g, in an 8th note, all the players present were just pissed that this even happened, least of all me.
Feelings Won't Fade- 25p 1g, also in a random 8th note

Kaze is ridiculous and has FC'd the Maxx x-special twice, FC'd HDVO, gotten 3g and a miss PLUS 2g and a miss on LOM x-special, fc'd these dumb BROSONI edits, got a bunch of FPC's on stuff like Angelus and Venus and 6p on 1998... just crazy. This has all been while I've been here btw.

I lost 65 pounds playing DDR Extreme on mostly 8s and 9s (no bar mind you) and then ITG 10s and 11s (195-130 over 2 years). I only recently moved to consistently doing 12s and over after having gotten in shape so I beg to differ. I run now as well to maintain my girlish figure since doing this much DDR is pretty costly.

God yes. Tell it brother! Local friendly competition is how to keep people motivated, or at least much of my motivation. And frankly ITG doesn't have that many songs that are just smashing 16th note runs. In fact ITG3 and Rebirth has some REALLY fucking good charts. Way better than Supernova and on. See my Acme SN2 post for more commentary on that issue...

I totally agree with you on ITG3 having some bitchin charts. I love that pack much more than ITG Rebirth, but don't compare it with Supernova.

DDR and ITG have two different styles in terms of stepcharts. Besides.......most of every chart supernova and up is crap. So......yeah

Also......Checked out acme for the first time in ever today. I've got some work to do on ITG haha, perhaps I took too long of a break. Just give me two weeks and I'll break my ReaF score. That song is not that hard once you can move your feet that fast.

I never said it wasn't exercise, I just said if you're playing nothing but easy shit you're probably not going to see any significant improvement, or at least less than you would by doing more strenuous cardio.

And if 30 minutes of walking a day is supposed to be healthy aerobic exercise then I'm Mr. Universe. I don't know who "they" are, but considering half of this fat country probably walks that much a day "they" sound like they're full of shit.

Gerrak: keyword there is no bar, so, gg. I hate playing no bar haha.

Kev: if you consider easier charts like 8s and 9s crap, I can't help you, but there are some fun fuckin charts on SN and up.  Just as many as ITG.  That basically means there's a couple on each game

Hey hey now I never said specifically what I thought was crap, but if you will let me clarify. I'm sorry, I didn't really mean to say "most of everything" because when I really think about it, I like a lot of supernovas charts. SN2 though has some really gimmicky stuff. Like Music in Rhythm is so awesome, but the stops in it are unnecessary.

Also, got a AA BARELY, and do I mean BARELY on Fascination MAXX. The main problem im having on that song is at the part when it has something like 4 steps and then a jump randomly. 200 bpm is killer. Also, SN2's timing seems harder for some reason, but I'm getting used to it.

also I got a bunch of "AAA's" according to SN2 hahaha
Why didn't they keep it so AAA's required no greats. I don't get it.

Also, Disco is right. I walk everywhere because I have no car, but my calves are not bricks. I started running 2 weeks ago every Saturday I'd do a 3k, slowly I'll push it to a 5k, so in about 2 months of doing this consistently, my calves will be BEAST!!!!!!!

ok James

what part of "training" is not "strenous exercise"? and vice versa? this seems like a silly argument to me.
also, no, I come from LA, the drivingest (or more importantly, least walkingest) town in the universe, I just assumed it was the exception to the rule.

ALSO

u mad?

There's a rock wall at husky stadium?!?!?!?!?!?!

How much is it to use? or is it free? can you rent equipment? or do you have to bring your own?

You just got me super hyped up!

Wait, what was that sound I just heard now?

I can't tell if it was me being right or you not being able to associate cardio with exercise :X

James is the stadium just open for that when there is no games going on? I don't know since I never am usually up there. But hell if your allowed to just go run in there, I'm totally gonna start doing that.

The half hour walking concept is being applied incorrectly here (and in general, honestly) .  The recommendation is that plus good eating habits to help you recover from poor habits or to maintain a proper baseline of health.  Just walking a little each day is definitely more exercise than a lot of people get in this country, but for that to really make huge health improvements without also adjusting what you eat... you need to have started in pretty abysmal condition.

In early 2003 I managed to go from 200 to 165 in about 4 months without changing my diet.  Here's what it took:
- 1st period Highschool Weight Training class M-F
- Joining track as a runner (practice was afternoons M-F)
- League bowling Saturday mornings
- 2-3 hours of DDR daily (I was playing standard at the beginning, mostly heavy by the end).

My doctor had told me severe obesity was guaranteed based on my height/weight chart over the years when I was 5'9" and 200 lbs.  A year later I was 170 (I had just started my last growth spurt which consisted of no height gain, but much broader shoulders, so the 5 lbs. were bone and muscle, thankfully), and he asked me what I had been doing, because patients NEVER correct their weight so quickly (if at all) after he tells them to, especially teens.

When a doctor has someone who would really benefit from losing 40 or 50 pounds, telling them that they need to exercise that much isn't going to work.  Telling them to try light exercise plus diet change isn't going to work.  The 30 minutes light exercise is really meant as a springboard into better exercise plans or into diet change (one or the other usually voluntarily follows the small gains made by light daily exercise), so that doctors don't have to tell people to do something that sounds insurmountable.  If it weren't for the financial investment, going to the gym and lifting weights seems to give some of the best initial results for people needing to lose weight, since they burn the fat that slows them down while getting stronger so the remaining fat is less of a burden, which just makes life feel better overall.

Actually, given how busy I am right now with work, if I had to lose that weight again, I would give up pretty quickly because I just don't have enough time to commit to that much exercise, and often I don't have enough time to buy and prepare healthier meals.

Play easy shit with heavy leg and arm weights. Now both of you are right. How about those dance game accomplishments?

Edit: I should probably make it clear that I was being sarcastic. Tongue

James, I still think you don't even understand what I was referring to but let's just drop it. I don't think we're arguing the same topic at this point.

Laura: that's a good way to die hahaha

and I'm playing today so there will be scores here today I swear.

This chart is offsync also. Not to mention a god awful song -.- I need to try to break that score also I havent played it in so long, my best is like 2% less and I'm in a bit better shape for it now.

On the lines of exercise, what it comes down to for DDR is whether or not youre raising your heart rate doing it. Any method of play can do this or really any difficulty depending on how you play and how in shape you actually are. I probably get comparably as much exercise now bar raping 12s in good heel-toe form than I once did doing 9s no bar on Extreme when I was more of a fatty. And freestyling > all for exercise, I can get winded freestyling a 7 or 8 if it's groovy enough Wink

discovalante: Yeah, that is a good way to die. I definitely have small (2 lb I think?) leg weights that I'll play 7s and 8s with, though, and that feels pretty good, in an "I'm going to hate myself tomorrow" way. Cheesy

This chart is offsync also.

No it's not.

Also, Freestyling any song will get you sweating if you can make it groovy enough. Why would you freestyle an 8? My personal preference has always been 4's and below, otherwise there's just too many arrows in my opinion.

Also, went to Sky High Arena again with Michael and James. My accomplishment there was that I jumped off the wall trampoline did a 360 front flip onto the next trampoline, and then did a front flip onto the next trampoline after that. Before all that though I went to the UW stadium and ran up and down the stairs for 30 minutes. I feel super accomplished. Holy god my body hates me right now Sad

Forgot to mention we were at acme before sky high arena. I haven't gotten worse actually hahaha, I didn't break any machine records, but damn I beat a lot of my scores on 12's by a couple percentages. haha.

That is good MA on Unreal. Fuck that chart.

#239- Trip Machine X-special (36p)
#240- Feelings Won't Fade (31p)
#241- i feel... (37p)

also re-AAA'd Will on random stage, so I had x3 which is oh so slow

should have had Centaur twice but fucked it up madly. thought the one run with 20ish p was pretty decent MA, but what's the point if there's greats?

also got a few performance/freestyle vids of this guy Nobu, who does entire courses instead of just single songs. also took one of the funniest videos ever but it's a secret for now.

wahahahahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHA!!!! what a god awful score.......I love this song because it's so utterly dumb.

14 arrows from a full combo, 6 goods and 8 boos. Right at the end before the last few jumps.

These were all from Friday night

I upped this by about a percent

This is from GOMX pack. Although the bulk of the file is 16th runs at 152 BPM, there are a few technical 24ths and 32nds hidden in some of the streams. Pretty fun and challenging.

Yes, this is Mad Matt's file. I think i'm decent at trilling 24ths at 182 BPM Grin

On this note, I played Boom Boom Dollar KOG Mix on doubles and DAMN does that songs make you twist back and forth! It's gotta be the hardest 9 on doubles I've played so far. Keep in mind, my experience with doubles is rather limited.

The weirdest songs suddenly become REALLY HARD on doubles. I remember when I was trying to learn how to play and somebody told me that Freckles had a "really fun doubles chart." Too bad it's also REALLY DIFFICULT. :>

Yeah, BB$KOG is pretty hard on double.
If you get the chance, try uh... turn me on, moonligh shadow (a 7), TL100s (an Cool, Butterfly upswing... those are pretty hard.  moonlight shadow isn't > BB$KOG but it's probably hands down the hardest 7 in DDR history

I have a very hard time with Boom Boom Dollar KOG on doubles haha, mainly because I can't read some of the crossover patterns yet.

Seriously though guys, you need to see me play Healing-D-Vision on Oni. It's about the funniest thing chart you'll ever see on DDR. Scott I know you always get on ITG sometimes because they barely move more than 10 degrees from side to side haha, but oh man, if you don't double step it, you move, full 180 degrees back and forth so fast. It looks so funny.
