Our dedicab came with the traditional pink neon speaker rings found in most DDR/ITG2 cabinets. Because one of our pink rings is dead, and in an effort to be rad, we were thinking about purchasing new BLUE neon rings from Andamiro. However, I had a question for anyone who knows ANYTHING about neon or electrical engineering.

Would a Blue neon ring work with the transformer and inverter on our machine that was running Pink neon rings? I want to know if the transformer and inverter will be incompatible with the gas in the blue neon rings.

I am definitely no expert on the matter, but I did some looking around out of my own curiosity and don't seem to see mention of color directly affecting the power needs - the voltage and current are simply a function of the tube size from what I've seen in my quick search, so all you'll need to care about is the new tubes using similar electrodes to the old ones.

You're likely dealing with the same gas for the two colors - neon glows orange-red, argon glows faint purple, argon + mercury glows pale blue and emits UV.  All other colors are created with phosphor tube coatings that react to UV, since it's cheaper than directly coloring the tubes (the coating is applied to clear tubes on demand, whereas colored tubes need to be ordered from the glassmaker in each color).

Given that Andamiro:
1. Makes both types of tube (and the tubes likely have the same gas)
2. Seems to have competent engineers who use standardized parts
I would venture to guess that the electrodes are the same.  Take a look at the existing tubes and see what sorcery is inscribed upon the electrodes (I love that everything electronic has every little detail printed on it somewhere).  Either Andamiro or the parts distributor has the corresponding data either already posted on their site or would be willing to look it up for you.

I've seen a cabinet with blue rings before. While I can't say for sure that they were using the same transformer and inverter, I couldn't imagine that certain arcade going to the effort to change them. I think you'll be safe.

The color makes no difference.  swap them out to your leisure as the color does not matter as either uses the same inverter for the reason explained a couple posts back.
