Freq's party invite got me curious: How many of our forum members do(n't) drink alcoholic beverages?

I just wanted to do this out of my own interest, but this might actually be some useful data to refer to if anyone's not sure whether or not a booze party will work out for forum members, or something.

And hopefully the simple answers of "yes" or "no" aren't too black and white. I guess there's no middle, is there?

I also hope this will be an interesting discussion and not be mega arguing. To each his own, I think people should be able to respect others' choices to (not) drink. Smiley There are young teens here, but the age range goes up to adults, too, so there are some people here who drink (and I don't think it's going to keep itself concealed or anything in the community). Of course, I am not necessarily promoting drinking or illegal things, etc. :p

So, well, I hope no one feels weird about this thread/poll. I feel like I'm maybe stepping a boundary but my curousity is getting the best of me o_O Um, so I apologize if anyone feels... offended?

You stole my idea. Tongue

Personally, I don't drink as of yet, because I know I have an addictive personality (I have AS for pete's sake), and I know it could become a real problem if I do it too soon.  I am willing to try it someday, but I don't have that much of a desire to.

I drink at social gatherings, but not that much.

I'll sit back with a few Asahis or red wines here and there when with friends, usually once a week, and get tipsy and watch Speed Racer, too.

Substance abuse runs in my family, so I'm pretty cautious about partying. I find drinking when unhappy/stressed is just a stupid, stupid idea and doesn't really help me out, I usually reserve drinking for social/happy times. I started drinking about a year ago (just before turning 19), and yeah, I feel good about starting then rather than earlier (I think my liver thanks me). Well I just gave away the fact that I partake in illegal activities, oops xD

One thing I really don't want to happen is that every event from this point on has to allow drinking, or it's considered crap...

Perhaps I'm being a bit too hasty and paranoid, though...

So far only three people have said they drink (though there's 4 votes for yes), one of which can even buy it for themselves.

I wouldn't worry too much.

Definitely too hasty; I personally would not feel comfortable drinking with underage peeps because I would take 100% of the blame ^_^;;; yes yes, I know people do it all the time and whatnot, but I'm the eldest and of legal age so I would take the fall if something bad were to happen. =P

I'm sure there will be some events that will allow alcohol and some that won't. I really don't think drinking events would be appropriate for some of the people here who are not into drinking, especially our younger members D: And I'm sure drinking events would be a side thing (as in not a "main event") for the older folks who are down with that, as it would be unfair/uninclusive to do that to non-drinkers, and we can't be a happy community if we're excluding people.

Hehe I got over the, "aww, no alcohol at party = no fun Sad" phase, so like, I know I won't get like that, and I would totally discourage that type of mentality.

Okay, yes, I was being a bit hasty.  My mind doesn't work very well at 2:30am (and arguably at other times as well Tongue)

We should definitely have most of our events be non-drinking, so they're open to more people.  There can be drinking events, but for the most part we want to make sure the events are open to anyone.  Allowing drinking is a lot more restrictive than not allowing it, especially now that I know that people aren't thinking "No alcohol = no fun".

We don't fuck around. :D

That being said, the subject is a little misleading. I don't drink much, but when I do I drink to get drunk. :) Also, not one Bemani party I've hosted has introduced alcohol without kicking out all the minors first.

Oh yeah you do.  Tongue

Anyways I'm not a drinker, mainly because I have had no reason to yet, and I'm not going to start it at some place where I'll be driving home.
I have no problems with it, but I'm also one who will never drink enough to the point of being totally drunk. There's no reason to be in a mental state where I can't control what I'm doing.

But being around others who are can be particularly entertaining sometimes...

I drink sometimes, but never much (quanitity-wise). I'm a ridiculous lightweight, though, so I get really drunk really easily. Tongue

That said, I don't think anyone should worry about Bemani parties all involving alcohol from this point on, or somesuch. Essentially, there are enough minors who are not even legal adults yet that if we were to serve alcohol at Bemani parties, we'd not only be liable to the law, but also to parents who would be angry that their children were around alcohol. :>

No objection to the occasional gathering with "beverages," but yeah, that should NOT become a regular thing.

I have been drunk exactly two times.  Once, about 3 years ago (grade 11 I think) I went to a house party type thing and downed a mickey of Fireball whiskey, wasn't too bad, and didn't get too drunk.  No hangover either.  And twice, at my 19th birthday last november, was my night to end drinking for me forever.  Before we went to the restaurant, I got "primed" with 6 shots of captain morgans, then during the course of our meal (some nice japanese dining).  I downed 4  "large" hot sakes, 8 shots each.. 38 shots of alcohol over 1 hour: not a fun night.  By the time I left the restaurant I was totally out of it.  The only thing I remember was pissing on the sidewalk and throwing up soon after, and then later on, waking up in the parking lot of a mall nearby and heaving my guts out.  Apparently, some guys tried to take me the bus stop to get me home but I was falling down and in no condition to bus.  Luckily, my girlfriend was at an arcade nearby (playing some guitarfreaks lol) and when she called my cell, my friends picked it up.  I got a ride home from her friend and proceeded to hug the toilet for three hours and then pass out.  Amazingly, in the morning, no hangover!  Must be the German in me =]  Anyhow, I'll never drink again.

I thought you were joking when you had that Usertitle.

Sorry that I kind of started this whole hoo-hah in the first place. I do respect people's decisions, just as long as they don't try to force it on me (i.e. other Junior High kids who don't know any better).
