February 11, 2007, 01:53:05 AM - ORIGINAL POST -

Freq's party invite got me curious: How many of our forum members do(n't) drink alcoholic beverages?

I just wanted to do this out of my own interest, but this might actually be some useful data to refer to if anyone's not sure whether or not a booze party will work out for forum members, or something.

And hopefully the simple answers of "yes" or "no" aren't too black and white. I guess there's no middle, is there?

I also hope this will be an interesting discussion and not be mega arguing. To each his own, I think people should be able to respect others' choices to (not) drink. Smiley There are young teens here, but the age range goes up to adults, too, so there are some people here who drink (and I don't think it's going to keep itself concealed or anything in the community). Of course, I am not necessarily promoting drinking or illegal things, etc. :p

So, well, I hope no one feels weird about this thread/poll. I feel like I'm maybe stepping a boundary but my curousity is getting the best of me o_O Um, so I apologize if anyone feels... offended?

Man, bemani + alcohol is interesting. For a while Karaoke Revolution had been an ongoing tradition when drinking with my friends.

It's fun. Seems to be a lot easier for people to not shy away from it if they've had something to drink, haha.

You know what, I will bring my Karaoke Revolution to S-con, and maybe we can go sing all crazy somewhere.

You guys need to grow some balls.  Tongue  I have no problem doing karaoke completely sober, and I know my voice sucks.

A karaoke meet sounds fun... we should go to SBK or something and rent a room. Tongue

Karaoke is great! I don't need drinks though it's fun to drink and do it as well =D

What's SBK? Is it like a Japanese-styled karaoke place? If so, that would rock (not a fan of AMerican karaoke so much).

I'll do it sober, and would be bad at any non-American karaoke.

By non-American I don't mean Japanese songs/lyrics only.  There are plenty of American/English songs available at a Japanese karaoke parlor.  The difference is room size (it;s usually more private), more tambourines =D, and usually better karaoke input methods (keypads and the like); rather than my stereotype of standing up in front of a bar and singing in front of a bunch of strangers with a somewhat derelict machine.

The rooms there are private; it would be just us.

They have thousands of songs in both English and Japanese.  You should probably have no trouble finding what you need.  And there's a store right next to it where you can pick up snacks and stuff.

I really hope they have ファミレス・ボンバー; I'd actually be willing to learn the lyrics to that Tongue

They should have Sex Machinegun songs, and thus Famiresu Bomba AND Mikan no Uta! =D

I'm gonna sing me some Remioromen too~

lol drinking thread totally got jacked by k-rev.

I have vol. 1 +2 and a mediocre mic headset.

I've also been really curious to try the Japanese ones. Anyone want to find them and we could make an attempt on a modded ps2 with them? hahaha Smiley

Hmmm, I'd still have to field my vote for actual Japanese karaoke but I understand that not everyone is ready to make that jump =P I'd be in for a normal K-Rev match anyday.

@Tada: But you and I and maybe a smaller group of interested peeps should hit up that karaoke place sometime soon.

For my part, I'd actually prefer to do karaoke sober (since before alcohol, I can actually sort of sing.) I'd really be into going to a place where you get a booth and whatnot-- I've ALWAYS wanted to do that. :O

How much do these booth places run?

Well, I'll leave Tada to answer prices since I have no idea how expensive this place he's suggesting is.

In Japan karaoke usually charges on the half-hour; from 150yen to 300yen per person.

Last time I was there, it was ~$10 per person, but I wasn't the one planning things...

www.sbkaraoke.com if you want to look it up... I'm too lazy right now.  Just got finished watching Emma, and am ready to sue the people who made that DVD for false advertising.

Thanks Tada.  So there's the prices folks.

EDIT: So if I'm reading this right, if we get say 6 peeps together prices would be:

Mon-Thurs $4/person before midnight, $4/person after midnight / hour

Fri-Sun $5/person /hour

That really isn't that bad at all.

EDIT2: And after the first hour charges go by the minute, whereas it's the hourly charge/60; so if we wanted to only go an hour and 2 minutes or something, we could do that fine without being charged for a whole 2nd hour.

Ah, Sales tax is also tacked on at the end. Bleh.
