Hello I just recently bought 2 DDR machines.  1 DDR extreme "japanese version" I was told.  On the back it says its a DDR 8 machine.  I also picked up a DDR USA machine.  Both units have problem sadly.  The Extreme machine was working till I moved it into my house.  I think either getting it out of the truck or rolling it over carpet cause a failure specifically, power up, hear a buzz noise for about 2 seconds, then nothing.   Doesn't buzz anymore when you attempt to power it up. 

Second machine came up last time I checked with a hardware error -1N. 

I found a manual for the USA version, but it doesn't have error codes in it.  Also the power issue I waiting on a key set to get into the machine to check things with a multimeter and look for pop caps etc.  I noticed that DDR freaks is dead or at least you can't register anymore, so I'm looking for some good repair resources to get these machines back up and running.

I think you'd get better help by posting here. There's more people with first hand knowledge about a variety of machines.

Did you win these at the recent Mountain Coin arcade auction? If not, that's a hell of a coincidence.

If so, then the "working" one was almost certainly a crap Namco cabinet and the broken DDR USA machine probably has a toast System 573 (I think it's the one from Seaside). I spoke with the sales guy about the 573 and the techs ran through all of the basic diagnostics on it before deciding it wasn't worth their time to invest anything more in it.

Your best bet with the USA machine is probably to stick a PC with OpenITG on it in there. You'll enjoy it a lot more anyway, since USA has a rather limited song selection anyway.

Look up Eldorado Games in CA.  You can ship them your 573 board for repair.

They were.  I thought for the price they were worth picking up to convert or just fix up.

Actually, I did a bit more digging and it's possible that your DDR Extreme Namco cabinet doesn't even have a legitimate System 573 in it. When Namco originally received the lot, they discovered that they had hacked PS2s running DDR Extreme USA on them. Namco upgraded a lot of those cabinets with ITG2 BoXoRs, but that doesn't appear to have been done in this case.

Here's some more information:

If you open up the back of the cabinet and look inside, look for the System 573:

If you have that, then congrats, apparently they put a (more) legitimate kit in there (almost certainly still a boot leg, but authentic Extreme kits are super rare and the Korean boot legs are totally fine). It's basically the same as what you should have in your DDR USA cabinet, as a point of reference.

Congrats on the USA cabinet though. With some love, a Minimaid, and a PC running OpenITG, you've got a pretty solid buy there.

So the DDR Extreme Japanese version (DDR extreme Cool has a hacked PS2 in the bottom of it, and a bobidu receiver in the center.  So I found out why it would not power on.  The plug that went to the on off switch had blown, so I took the plug out of my DDR USA one that I'll be working on later and put it in extreme.  Now it powers up, I hear the PS2 boot up sound monitors comes up.  Unfortunately I'm getting a slight red screen thats says "MULTIGAME" THEN "P1:44"  THEN "P2:44' and get stuck at P2:44.  The pads are unplugged right now but I saw it boot up without the pads plugged in before i bought it.  Time to look up error codes Sad.

Yeah, so you definitely have one of the bootleg DDR cabinets that Namco got conned into buying.

I managed to find this thread where, with some unrelated issues, they suggested reformatting the memory card:

It might be worth a shot. I'd suggest going the Minimaid route and connecting a PC, but I suspect the Minimaid may not be compatible. You might have luck with a J-PAC or something. I'd order a Minimaid for your DDR USA cabinet anyway though. Smiley
