Alright so I've tried almost everything to get my pad to work with stepmania. It does work but theres one small flaw I'm trying to get rid of...When I'm playing a song and I step on opposite arrows at the same time, one of them wont register or work. So far I have not figured out what I did wrong... I simply went to the control config/joy map place and entered all the required buttons. Everything works well, but I can't play with one leg...I have a Blue Shark MYMYBOX pad.
So please... help!

Never mind, I figured out why it wasn't working... Apparently my usb adapter isn't capable of handling simutaneous of Left+Right or Up+Down. Joystick axes problems...
Oh well, guess I figured this out before anyone got a chance to look at this haha.

Switch the wires for down and right with the wires for X and O, responsively. It will still work on a PS2 as well, just make sure you're in controller mode. If you want to be really fancy, you can just set up switches to switch the buttons.
BTW, I'm pretty sure you don't have to worry about voiding your warranty--it's not like MyMyBox will ever fix/replace your pad anyway.
If you don't feel like tinkering with it or you can't get to the chip inside the pad (note:you can also switch wires on the plug, if you know which wires are which, or in the CB itself), got to play-asia.com and order an EMS USB2 gun adapter. It'll cost about $23 shipped and you'll never regret your purchase. Just make sure you set it to "PC" when using it on your computer or it won't work right.

Thank you for the help and information. I'll tinker with it for awhile and see if I can get it right. If all else fails, I'll just get the other adapter. Seems easier that way anyways, BUT I'm broke right now and on a budget so I'm going to tinker with it some more today. I'll tell you if its a success or not

What system is the pad for, what converter, and what drivers are you using?

Just borrow a soldering iron and do the X O trick. If you post a picture of the board on your dancepad I can show you where to solder.
