Yo all, Tada and I felt we had hijaxed the "Do You Drink?" thread long enough, so here we are.

Here is the site of the place we're thinking of going:

www.sbkaraoke.com

It has prices, location, even English songlists for those of you not so into the j-poppin'.  Please take a moment to look it over and then answer these questions:

1) Would you be interested?

2) When would be a good time to go for you?

Thanks!

-Chris

1) Yes, definitely.  If I weren't interested, why the hell would I be posting here?  Oh, right... Anyway, back to the task at hand...

2) Saturday nights would work the best for me.  Friday is doable too, but I would prefer Saturday.  Definitely want it to be at an evening/night time.  I am against having it on any other day.

1. I am insanely interested.

2. I GUESS probably a Friday or Saturday would be good, although I would actually rather opt for a Sunday afternoon. I much prefer Friday to Saturday, as those are usually really busy.

1) No, I hate KARAOKE!!!! =(

2)Since I'm currently job-hunting I'm available anytime, so Friday-Sunday is fine; it's the same rate any of those times anyways (though getting to Seattle on a Friday or Saturday night is probably a pain...and I'd need a car since we'd likely get out late...anyone want to carpool?)

Although getting 6 people means if each takes 5 minutes to sing a song (finding one and selecting it) it'll really cost $2 or $2.50/song.

The more people, the higher the singer/song cost is.
More people = less songs per person, so singing one song would be the full cost of each hour.

If you want to get into the economics of karaoke that's true, but like everyone participates in each song (with tambourines, singing backup and whatnot, or tapping, clapping, etc.) so you can't make it such an exact science; I pay for the experience as much as for my turn to sing, personally.

And not all songs are 5 minutes, though I know you wanted to give a nice round estimate per song.

Hopefully noone will be singing "Stairway to Heaven."

I don't know if we're doing it this weekend; but if this weekend is a hassle for you we can always plan it for next.  But, in short, weekends are good for you, and that's what we needed to know. =D

Weekends I guess, but getting there will be tricky, as I'm in Olympia.

At SBK, you can look over the songbooks and select your song while one is in progress, and it will just be queued.  Besides, multiple people can sing the same song if they want to (they give you more than one mic).

8 people @ $3.75/hour each would also come out to $2.50/song.  Your logic has a hole in it; more people also means the cost is split more ways.  Only if there were 9 or more people (in which case the cost is no longer inversely proportional) the cost per song would increase.  As you'll see by my next post, I really don't think of things this way; just wanted to point out BLueSS's mistake.

This weekend I'm free, next is booked. Weeknights and weekends minus Sundays work for me.

Well said.  Even my mostly logic-based brain does not think of karaoke the way BLueSS does.  I tend to sing backup pretty often, enjoy watching other people sing, and just the experience of it all, so an economical model is just moot in this case.

I'll have trouble on weekends now that I have a job, but if we were to do stuff like this during breaks, I'm sure I could make one of them

Also, that's crap that there's no chinese music there.

Since nobody's proposed any actual dates yet, may I suggest specifically this Friday as a day I'd really like to do this? :O

Oops, that totally skipped my mind. Tongue I'm now against having it on this coming Saturday, but I will want it on a Saturday if it's going to be on a different weekend.

Sunday night this weekend would work for me, since I have Monday off.

In short:
I want it to be on Sunday if it's this weekend, but on Saturday if it's any other weekend.

From website's FRONT PAGE:

"We have over 8300 English songs, 8000 Japanese songs, 4000 Chinese songs and 8000 Korean songs as well as Indonesian and Spanish songs. "

Also, we'll probably be doing this more than once, depending on how many people show and how successful it is deemed.

As for planning:

Um, I'm down with this weekend I guess, what like 2 hours 8-10pm?  So far I'm seeing Laura, Tada, myself, and Jon as definites.  Also, anyone want to carpool that lives Kent-ways (I assume that's a total of 0).  And I'm hoping I can park on the street (the website says its ok during the times we'll be going, though I wonder if there will be spots available).

Cool, well we don't quite have a date set yet (personally I want to do it ASAP cuz I love karaoke, but this weekend may not be most convenient).  So keep an eye on this thread, "uhhhh", and let us know what days work best for you, as this is most important to know.

haha just call me michael or mike or whatever. i'm actually fine with any day for now, it's just the time is horrible for me (and probably just me) because it takes 2 1/2 hours for me to get down there and getting back, the bus' last stop around here is 10 pm. so that means i'd have to leave that area around 7 and i'd have to risk missing the last bus :?

Ah okay yeah I saw the mika 'ele in your name and figured that may mean Michael or Mike.

Plus, depending on where you live, we could car pool.  I live in East Kent so I would need to take the 167, 405, and 5 to get to this karaoke place.
