Not very surprised at these results.

Your Aspie score: 129 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 66 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie

Yeah, I know, but you can't TAKE the quiz if you don't get past that page. Cheesy

Anyway, I picked reasonable values for most of those things.  I apparently score low on motor difficulties, despite the fact that my mobility is impaired to the point where I need to use a walking stick to get around outside my house.  I scored low on Aspie disability, but also on neurotypical social traits (I refuse to admit to precisely *how* low they were).  I also scored high on Aspie talent.

None of this is news to me.  I've had people try to peg me as everything from schizophrenic to MPD to autistic to OCD to... eh, just everything.  I suspect that most of you, looking back at your life and your dealings with psychiatrists, will realize the same.

But OTOH, I'm being too square - most of you probably just took this for the fun.  So if you enjoy (non-scientific!) online psych tests, take a look at this one.  IMO it's simple, interesting, and the questions aren't *completely* dumb.  Plus, it's 8 or 9 aspersions on your mental health for the price of 1! Wink

Thank you for filling out this questionnaire.

Your Aspie score: 106 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 92 of 200
You are both Aspie and neurotypical

Eh. And I also didn't like that you had to choose one colour for your eyes, mine are a whole array of colours :[. So I just stuck with grey-blue.

I got diagnosed about a year ago.  We found out about it because my little brother has it, and then we realised that I fit the description really closely and got me diagnosed.

No formal diagnosis (no point in getting one, really), but I do match far more than the minimal requirements.  And I'm a CSE major.  Cool

(description from mentalhealth.com, my input in color)
1.   Qualitative impairment in social interaction, as manifested by at least two of the following: ~3.5/4
-1. marked impairment in the use of multiple nonverbal behaviors such as eye-to-eye gaze, facial expression, body postures, and gestures to regulate social interaction somewhat
-2. failure to develop peer relationships appropriate to developmental level check
-3. a lack of spontaneous seeking to share enjoyment, interests, or achievements with other people (e.g., by a lack of showing, bringing, or pointing out objects of interest to other people) check
-4. lack of social or emotional reciprocity check
2. Restricted repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests, and activities, as manifested by at least one of the following: ~3/4
-1. encompassing preoccupation with one or more stereotyped and restricted patterns of interest that is abnormal either in intensity or focus check
-2. apparently inflexible adherence to specific, nonfunctional routines or rituals not so much
-3. stereotyped and repetitive motor mannerisms (e.g., hand or finger flapping or twisting, or complex whole-body movements) check
-4. persistent preoccupation with parts of objects check
3. The disturbance causes clinically significant impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. somewhat (social)
4. There is no clinically significant general delay in language (e.g., single words used by age 2 years, communicative phrases used by age 3 years). check
5. There is no clinically significant delay in cognitive development or in the development of age-appropriate self-help skills, adaptive behavior (other than in social interaction), and curiosity about the environment in childhood. check
6. Criteria are not met for another specific Pervasive Developmental Disorder or Schizophrenia. I really doubt schizophrenia, but I haven't checked the entry yet

EDIT: big suprise, no schizophrenia for me

Pfft...back when I was a bemani n00b (read: like not that long ago), I think Tony was the first person to talk to me at acme and such.

But was it about something other than Bemani/other games?  Not talking about anything is more towards autism, rambling about your interests is common aspie behavior.  It still doesn't fully fit with the 1.3 requirement, but I really only "spontaneously" talk about stuff in gaming-related situations (and it tends to be about games)... I once tried to explain the Final Fantasy Japnese/US numbering difference to a complete stranger at Fry's before when he seemed confused about the accurately numbered rereleases.

If anyone has any doubts about Tony's lack of general normal social skills... yeah, I can confirm this. We had been pretty solid arcade buddies for like half year on the day that I realized that we were talking about something other than video games for the first time. Tongue

As an interesting sidenote, I've noticed that when Tony and I do begin to have actual conversations, we mostly take turns talking AT each other, rather than engaging in an actual back-and-forth dialogue.

Can you explain the Final Fantasy Japanese/US numbering systems to ME, please?  I still don't get it and it's been years since the first attempt was made. Tongue

Personally, the aspies I've known... I don't think the difference is in how much they talk to other people but rather in *how* they talk to other people.  Normal people make small talk.  "How are you?  What brings you here?"  Not because the knowledge they glean thereby is useful in a concrete way, but because it expresses interest and makes the other person feel cared about.  Most of the aspies I've known talk to tell other people about things that they think they'll find use for knowing, or if they ask questions, ask them because they want the answers for the answers' sake.  Make sense?

Your description of talking to Tony is interesting to me because it seems to confirm my hypothesis.  You tell each other things that you think are good to know.  This is not necessarily a highly interactive process. Tongue

Of course, my sample size of ten or twelve people is just HUGE, so... yanno... take with a grain of titanium dioxide.

Basically

Jp - En
I = I
IV = II
VI = III
VII+ = The Same

But the others that didn't have original US releases have been remade in some anthologies such as Gameboy Advance versions of V, a DS version of the original III... so it's pretty messed up.

I didn't learn the differences in US/JP Final Fantasy numbering until about 2000.  Me = dumb.  Basically, starting with the PSX generation of FFs, everything was set straight.  One thing that still bugs me: Why the hell do they switch X and O?  X, which is associated with "incorrect" or "wrong" is now confirmation or "correct"?  WTF?

That's me in a nutshell.  I despise most small talk... In my opinion, it's pointless and a waste of breath.

And see?  That's exactly why I have so many friends with AS (or just with a bit of social obliviousness).  There's no obligation to engage in small talk when the other party couldn't care less. Wink

BTW, nice title, but you should have changed your username to Babelfish... Cheesy

Hahahaha @ topic change.
I have a similar thought, because usually in Japanese games, as you said, O is Confirm/Select, and X is Cancel. I don't know how in America, X is Confirm/Select, and Δ is now Cancel (from many PS2 games I've played). I just want to know, why Δ?

I made someone upset today at school, because I was making a sarcastic and joking statement while talking to them, and now they're offended. I guess I better go apoligize tomorrow. I don't like how I can't pick up on other people's cues, and they can't pick up on mine.

I don't think Tony has AS, Rituals/Habits are a big factor, such as me eating at the computer, or getting up during class to wipe my hands, because my fingernails have lead inbetween, from writing. I'll tell you, the eating habit has really stuck with me. I will wait 15-30 minutes to get home from A&W in Tacoma, just to eat my food at home. I also cannot tell the difference between boredom and hunger, I am surprised I'm not fat.

I don't think it's weird at Acme, or even at an event to talk about my/others' interests, I mean, the community obviously shares it, and it's pretty normal to me.

PS: In that picture, I think Tony is sneakingly looking downward  Cheesy

Rituals/habits are a big factor for some, but the diagnostic criteria is written such that if you have EVERYTHING ELSE, you probably don't need the rituals/habits for you to  have AS... it manifests itself in different ways. (At least, this is the case for many other items in the DSM, so I'd assume this carries over-- I, for example, have OCD, and most of my obsessions and compulsions relate to tidiness/order and safety, whereas many other OCD people I've met are more germophobic. The DSM allows for this variety.)

Tony has ALL of the sensory sensitivity, social issues (and narrow range of topics of interest), and even some of the aspects of obsession (his room consists entirely of collections: trophies, swords, shot glasses, and posters to name a few). I mean, I'm not a shrink, so obviously I can't say for sure... but the DSM requres two critera from each section to make a diagnosis, and Tony has between 3 and 3 and a half, which is MUCH more than what would be considered enough to have "suspicions" of such things.

Also, I can confirm that Tony was not looking downwards at the time... aside from the fact that I was looking right at him before and after that picture was taken, he's been around my boobs enough that I really don't think they're a novelty to him anymore. Tongue

Really? He has collections like that? The only collections I have are Mario Paraphernilia, and even then, it's not much.

I just reminded myself, another habit I have (but it's not too weird I hope), is when I get a new, sealed game, when I open the box, I smell it (the 'New Game Smell', if you will). My parents joke about how they should fart in the boxes before they close and wrap them up XD

Looking at this these results I think I must've been lying to myself.  I definitely have some of the social problems descibed here, and I'm an extremely obsessive person.  Also, I've been in several situations where someone got angry at me for not emotionally reacting to an issue.
