- ORIGINAL POST -
Just went on a round trip to check on all the dance game forums that I used to frequent. Specifically, DDRFreak, Bemanistyle and Zenius-I-Vanisher. It's all rather sad how infrequently those "catch-all" forums seem to get posts. I admit that I didn't go into every sub forum to check for activity, but in the main threads, like General Chat and DDR/ITG, they rarely get more than one post a week.
It makes me pleased that our local forum seems (in comparison) to be rather active. Though I haven't checked on it, I suspect that the same could be said for other regional forums, too. Perhaps the genre/industry doesn't have a large enough player base to sustain any of those super-large forums anymore? I dunno. I just check them once a week or so and they feel like ghost towns.
And yes, I was bored, which is why I wrote this.
Thoughts, opinions, insults?

yeah :/ i used to go to DDRFreak and Bemanistyle all the time during those tacoma narrows tourneys age (03-06 area) but they seem so quiet now. I believe that a significant community exists, but they do not know where to go, I've told a good deal of players about this forum and they thought I referred to DDRFreak or Bstyle, then there is another good chunk of people that read the forums but don't usually post.
I definitely share your gratefulness toward PNWBemani, and wouldn't have it any other way!

Hey guys. Most of the active dance game(well....mostly ITG) community posts on AIJ daily. and AIJ has been a big dance game forum for along time. So I wouldn't count that one out!

I honestly think bigger communities have a harder time thriving because of the quality control issue. On smaller, local forums, we are all sort of accountable to one another. Sure, we can get angry and troll each other a little, but the fact that we have to see each other at the arcade the next day keeps things from getting too out of hand. Similarly, stupid spam posts are less likely to be tolerated by a tight-knit local community.
On forums like DDRFreak, which span the entire nation, people regularly interact with others they would never, ever talk to or see offline, which gives them a sense of freedom from accountability (IMHO.) The scale also makes it harder to filter out spam posts.
So basically, big forums get overrun with assholes and idiots, and then nothing is done about it so the cool people all branch off and start their own small community sites.

Ah yes, the reason why I don't post on AIJ!
I'm super proud to have this place still active with users participating.
From our awesome arcade manager, Bill, to everyone who runs community events and tournaments... every one of us helps keep this community alive!

Plenty of DDR players too.
Also, don't take this the wrong way, but I think the main reason for the drop in posts on these sites is because
no one in America plays DDR anymore
. I'm exaggerating, but not much...

Thx to Bluee SS and the moderators, you are what keeps this forum alive, and brought it here in the first place!
Haha, I remember the old DDR Freak days. Was worth a daily read just to see what Metroid was up to, hanging asshats.

That's my theory, too.

And it's a darn shame if that's the correct theory.
