Now, are we talking "friggin' died and have come back to eat the flesh of the living" zombies, or "oh noes we gots sick and it makes us dumb and angry" zombies? Because the former are great, and the latter are a terrible copout at explaining why there's zombies. The best undead are given no explanation, because when the dead rise up and terrorize people, knowing why isn't as high a priority as "not getting eaten."

Also, Zombies is a terribly badass boardgame that everyone needs to play. The map is tile-based and tiles are placed as the game goes on, so no map will ever be the same. It conveys both the crushing hopelessness of the impending horde while allowing you to feel like a tremendous badass at the same time. The expansions are also great, expanding the map into not just the city and mall, but also a military base and other neat locations.
