no way, I may go there tonight after work for a couple rounds...
update: They close at 9 on M-Th. I was able to play a round on the X > OpenITG machine and was pretty happy with the setup. The guy working didn't know much about it but he said it was new to them a couple weeks ago. It was $0.50 for 3 songs. I wouldn't necessarily say the pads suck, but playing songs with hands on ITG was tough because you have to hit the panels so hard to get them to register. I'll be back there soon.

I just don't like that there's like 2-3 inches between the diagonals of each arrow. The X2 at Seattle Gameworks is already pretty annoying, this was just fucking painful. Too bad they probably wouldn't swap the pads on the Extreme and the X2

Even if they did, the pads on the Extreme need some work to even fc a song higher than a 6/7. The p1 on the X cab is better than both sides of the Extreme cab.

The more important thing you guys failed to mention is that beatmania Complete Mix 2 is GONE. I knew it was going to happen eventually because random people have no idea how to play it and it wasn't going to make any money. I sure did enjoy it while it lasted though. Sigh...
Anyway. I stopped by there and was less than enthused with the pads. 2P side is downright unplayable. 1P side was definitely not fine, the Up arrow was misfiring like crazy. Could very well be a new occurence that just started happening since Betson DDR X cabinets are PIECES OF SHIT.
I could be wrong on this but because the game doesn't have the red button that ITG2 cabs have, is there no way to re-sort the song list or take screenshots? Pushing < and > together did nothing. Also there's no double premium, not that any sane person would want to play doubles on those pads.
I hate HD screen lag.

I haven't been to Laserport in like 8 years, I didn't even know that there was a Complete Mix 2 in the first place.

This is Portland Tilt's DDR X. Now there's no reason to go here. Oh well ^_^

It takes custom songs...sort of. It'll only read one from the flash drive at a time, and it ignores everything else. It also ignores some songs completely even if they're the only ones in the folder. I can't find anything wrong with them, so I'm not sure what's going on.

Okay so this is the newest update for Lazer Port
"Sorry about the slow response! Things got crazy! The DDRX cab is now installed into the laserport with Extreme pads, the pads are all new sensors, countersunk, and the whole 9-yards. The pads were also given LEDs, but I didn't have any molex connectors, so the LEDS are disabled at the moment. Monitor was replaced with a proper 38" LED display. I threw some songs on there, like 20 custom folders (just grabbed the ones I had on-hand with multiple difficulties).
So for now, it's all playable, it just needs to have the offset calibrated, although it's better than other machines I've seen before with no calibration.
P1 USB is active and enabled, and you're more than welcome to grab a keyboard and access the service menu through it, even the laserport staff should get you one if you ask. P2 USB is disabled for the time being. Current pricing is 25 cents per song, difficulty is 3/7, doubles for one credit. Should be set!
There was an issue I found that I have never experienced though, generally when I play in Eugene, I can get sensors to fire just by barely tapping them, making 12s and 13s pretty easy for me. However these pads feel a bit 'stiff' (perhaps from the fresh cut plexis). I can still play 12s and 13s, I just feel like I have to make more genuine steps. But, I'd love to hear your input on it. "insert name" is the contact for laserport and is the registered tech there, so if you wanna make any modifications, just let the staff know that "insert name"from Amusement Unlimited gave you free reign over modifying the cab. "
So can someone run over there and let me know how it is? Maybe post some photos?
The Extreme cab and X pads are in Junction city being worked on right now, and those will likely come back to portland in another location once we secure one.

Well....................
Ok where to begin. First of all they just converted all their games to use a card system instead of quarters. The one kiosk you could buy cards from wasn't working for whatever reason but I was able to buy a card from the front desk. Simple points system, 100 points to a dollar, the cabinet costs 75 points a play, etc.
1P side is shit, Left arrow kept sticking on its own from the very first song I played and caused me to fail. Also the 1P side didn't recognize either of the USB sticks I tried to plug in, of course the 2P side didn't recognize them either. I've had very bad luck with getting machines to recognize USB's lately. 2P side was fine though, no drops and I played a song with hands and was able to hold freezes just fine. So in that regard there's one playable side.
Lag is still really really bad though. I've always timed songs by visually focusing on the gray arrows and I still can't do that because you have to step earlier. Harder songs in particular really fuck me up once I get off beat because it takes me time to readjust. Hopefully that offset is fixable because this monitor seemed just as bad as the last one.
Volume is not very loud, although it kinda varied by song. Unfortunately, maybe a half hour after I got there, they decided to start playing shitty music over the speakers. And there's a speaker directly above the cabinet. Hooray........
This may just be an issue of personal taste but I really, really, REALLY don't like this Simply Love theme that's on there now. I liked the ITG3 theme a lot more. One thing I discovered though is that when you're in the mod menu you have an option to go back to the song select, which resets the selection timer... lol?
As for the songs that are on there, there's something like 1300 songs but a lot of them are just basically random collections of stuff where you have no idea what to expect from each folder. There are ITG1, ITG2, and ITG3 but the only DDR folder is Supernova 2... I thought it was cool having access to a bunch of older DDR songs from all sorts of mixes since I've always been a DDR guy, but they're not on there now. There were also like three folders of Touhou music and Vocaloid songs... shrug
So... yeah, can't say I really had that great an experience with this cabinet right now.
edit: also, shoutout to having song titles like this in a public arcade lmao

Okay this isn't nearly as bad as I expected.
Money:
So the card system makes sense since it's new management, we can't do much about that price wise but I can ask about making it 4 songs per play.
Pads:
Pads I can fix, I haven't had a chance to get out there but I'm fairly positive i can get them in fairly good shape in one visit.
Screen Lag:
I'll adjust the offset, the only issue I might run into is sometimes it's so bad that the in game F6 won't make a change until you go into the .ini and designate a number that is manageable.
Theme:
If ITG3 is still on there I can swtich the theme back and it should have an options calibration test but I won't leave it on ITG3.
If both themes are on there I see no reason you couldn't switch to the theme you want before starting a session just as long as you leave it the way you found it.
Most ITGers around here usually play on SL so your best bet is to vote on chromatic theme, I just believe you'll get shot down because SL has far superior menu options. Mini/Cmods/judgement fonts ect.
USBs:
It's my understanding this is OITG which if running on windows COULD have working USB's after some work done, but if it's running on Linux then it will never be able to have working USBs. With that said current USB functionality is ONLY for keyboard use and not intended for screenshots/save data/ loading customs. USB1 is the only one working and USB2 has been disabled.
Volume:
I'll go into the options menu and see where the volume levels are at, if they are at 100% i'll bring them down to 40% and have the staff turn the volumes to an appropriate level. That way if you can't hear you simply plug in the keyboard and turn the volume up that way and then when you leave you put it back the way you found it. I'll also recommend the cab be moved away from the speaker.
Timer:
LOL i'll be putting this on unlimited. I remember the last time I played on public ITG with a timer and I thought I was going to die. So that won't be an issue.
Song content:
Owner said he just grabbed what he had that had full difficulties and threw it on there. I doubt any consideration for relevant content or vulgar content was taken.
After this cab is dialed in i'll make a songs lists of all relevant ITG packs
Officials
Mute sims
Mudkyp
Tournament packs
Bemani Beats
DragonForce
Pendulum
Tachyon
Easy as Pie
Piece of Cake
Trance Mania
DDR files 1st to 2015
And anything else requested.
ask about swapping in the new content and removing anything unneeded.
Thanks for the feedback, hang in there and hopefully we'll have a semi decent place to play soon.

I will be there Friday at 2PM to work on everything I can, I know people most likely have work but the more people that stop by the more I know know how pads are responding.
Also I figure the earlier I go the less chance I'll be affected by that over head speaker.
I'll give a full report once I'm done.
And any unresolved issues I'll be messaging the lead tech.
My expectation is that the pads will be pretty easy to fix, and that the screen lag i'm going to need access to the data files, which if it's linux or windows shouldn't be a problem as long as I have access to another USB, but if it's stock ITG then it will be more annoying.
Either way don't expect a miracle over night, and with a slow response time it's going to take 3 or 4 weeks to make this place amazing.
With that said we haven't had a public ITG set up since tilt and I will do everything in my power to make it as amazing as possible.
Even just decent volume, no timer, pads good up to 15's range, resonable sync (within the early or late excellent range) and a cleaned up packs overhaul with fixed graphic content( I wanted sexuality violation) but i'll need to chance the banner and removed some of the bad songs.
We will have a pretty damn nice machine to play on, and given that this cab has all the buttons and a bigger monitor and A LOT of work has been done to make extreme pads playable, this cab has the most potential this community has seen in a long time.
I'll keep you all this coming Friday.

Swung by and played on it a bit today. (Have not played 4 arrows in forever it feels like). There is potential. But even the P2 side left arrow was sticking for me on and off. Didn't bother trying P1 side.

My buddy and I will be there at 2pm friday to do pad work, adjust the sync, change volume and settings, change the content, and adjust anything else that comes up. Hang tight, oh and we should be getting the extreme cab back with a legit boxor in 3 weeks.

OKAY!!!
So a lot was done today but it still has a ways to go.
Pads were slightly modded, there was already foam in there and I think that's a bad idea because it's so inconsistent and touchy but we're going to go with it for now until you guys play on it a bit. It has to be broken in.
Left side has a SLIGHTLY sticky up arrow and next time i come back i'll fix it but it's totally play able right now.
the Left side Left arrow had foam UNDER the L bracket and was making it SO over sensitive that a pin drop would make it stick, that has been corrected and next time i'm there i'll dial in the modding a lot more.
Most of the old content has been removed and a ton of new stuff has been added.
I didn't have stuff that's come out in the last year on me and I want to go back and create a cleaner songs list that that is numbered.
Example: Packs 1-30 are all fully charted, so officals, DDR and a few customs packs.
Packs 31 and 32 are empty with a warning that says something to the extent of
"SONG PACKED NUMBERED 33-100 ARE FOR EXPERTS ONLY!"
and then have harder stuff on that side of the song wheel, but i'll try and organized it so starts easier and progressively gets harder. I want to find where the default song wheel starts and then place it in the middle of the 1-30 so that if beginner players walk up and scroll for a bit they will pretty much always land on a fully charted pack.
Photos of currently updated song list
Left side scores
Right side scores
and I also managed to keep an FEC on a 170 bpm 13 until about 70% and then I got tired.
Screen Resolution was fixed to 16:10 instead of 4:3 so things aren't as stretched.
Volume has been turned up, it's at 30% in the options menu and 40% is EXTREMELY loud, and 70% will probably blow up the speaker. So that is no longer an issue.
Money/Time
4 songs for 75 cents and double premium is on so 1 credit equals two credits. So if you use the buddy system you're really paying about 37 cents a game since the premium is for singles AND doubles play.
Timer has been removed.
Note that certain audio files are louder than others, not much I can do because it's up to the uploader/creater to use good quality files, and i'm not about to audio boost ever single file. ALSO the guys behind the counter control the overhead volume so you can ask them to turn it down a little.
Sync is been dialed in a bit but it still isn't perfect, this will be corrected with each visit and hopefully within a few weeks it will be nearly perfect. So just adjust and enjoy as best as you can and know that it isn't totally terrible right now.
Get out there and play and hopefully I'll see some of you on the dance pad.

Letting 2 people play for the price of one is joint premium... double premium is just making double available for one credit instead of two. Like how the SN2 is setup at Big Al's. I haven't seen full joint premium on a machine in a long time...
Anyway, thanks for getting the old DDR songs on there! Along with everything else you've been doing to get the machine playable. I'll stop by there sometime soon and see how the sync feels to me.

So I stopped by there today and the card reader was disabled. A credit was already in the machine but nothing was happening when start was pressed... it would bring up the title screen and then go back to the demo. Uh oh.
I also discovered that the nearby SuperPlay bowling alley has an Extreme machine now for some reason, but I guess I'll put that in another thread...

that blows, did you try both start buttons? trying to think of what would cause it to not respond to enter. Probably needs to be turned on and off.

Stopped by there tonight. This time the machine was functional.... of sorts.
I played a game of Doubles and on my 2nd song, the 2P Up arrow just stopped responding completely. The arrow wasn't lit up, and giving it a harder stomp didn't fix anything. I ended up failing out.
I ended up sticking to the 1P side after that, and things were ok although I felt like I triggered some pad Way Offs on the R arrow that weren't my fault. Then on my last game... the 1P Up arrow stopped working too. I honestly have no idea what is going on with these pads, each song now feels like a gamble as to whether or not it's going to work properly...
Volume still feels a tiny bit low to me. At least, I couldn't always hear the beat closely, especially with the overhead speaker. Machine still refuses to read any of the 4 USB cards I've tried on it, not that I care too much about tracking scores right now.
Sync is definitely way better, but I still find myself stepping early most of the time. Then again I was getting kinda lost in not being able to hear the beat sometimes. Still, feels like if it was a little bit later I'd be good.
I appreciate the old DDR folders being on there again. There were some folders that had home version songs (Ultramix, etc) that were originally on the machine though that were taken off. Would be cool to see those again. Right now I feel like 75% of the folders are just stuff for people that like playing nothing but 11's and above... granted, I haven't really been keeping up with the arrow smash/simfile scenes but I guess that's the popular thing to do now... I'll just stick with the old DDR and ITG stuff I guess

Well I think the foam is causing the sticking and it will removed. People tend to hit harder or softer and when there is foam in there it can create problems.
So I'll re mod it with only tape and see if that helps, I'll be in Friday the 18th.
Obviously the lights don't work so you can't really rely on that to help.
USB's WILL NEVER WORK LOL it's OITG on a dell PC so stop using your USB cards, because they will NEVER work. It's not real ITG so just give up on that. The ports are just there to gain access to the PC nothing more.
We can up the volume more.
I have a plan to fix the sync but it will take some trial and error.
I want to totally redo the Songs list but it will take me a while so just settle with what is there for now.
I recommend playing charts from easy as pie or piece of cake, there are lots of 9's and 10's in mute sims and also in mudkyp. If you press UDUD fast you can sort by difficulty, and that might help you find decent charts.
Hey at least progress was made and it was slightly better than the last time you played it.
Keep in mind it's only been working on once, so it's going to take a while to keep improving and I won't be out there until the 18th so you can expect it to be the same until then.

You can PM me with requests but not all will be accepted. Nor will the update process be quick. I didn't even back it out last Friday and it will probably be next month before I get another chance to make any drastic changes.
Expect packs to be anything that's listed on Groovestats or receives praise from the community that hasn't been listed yet.

So it looks like all the inner brackets are countersunk now, I think they may have opened up the timing windows slightly as well. It's also set to 2 players for 1 credit (75 cents) and a lot of the packs have had their name changed to include "-EXPERT ONLY" at the beginning, in order to prevent new players from picking them. DDR supernova now has an "A" in the title to make it the first pack to show up the left side left button (not panel) was pushed in twice by some random dumb kid, so you'll have to use the pad or right side control panel until it gets fixed...again
