Hey!

So this is my first post on here.... although I do know some of the people on here.

My name is Kevin or I go by K-Dash and I've been involved in the Southern Oregon Bemani scene for quite a while. I started out in Grants Pass... lived in K Falls for a time.... and now I live in Eugene.

Speaking of Eugene.... anyone else from Eugene? I'm always looking for more Bemani friends cause most of my current friends don't play at all. Sad I have quite a collection of Bemani games here at my place including stuff like Guitarfreaks and Drummania and Keyboardmania.. and I'm always looking to chill, play some bemani or other games.. have some good food and basically a good time. So if anyone in the area wants to come hang out and have some laughs, let me know. Smiley

Otherwise.. I make trips up to Portland sometimes and would love to meet some of the crew there. Also.. I make trips down to the Grants Pass/Medford area every few weeks or so as well... and I'm usually able to hang out when I'm down there.

Anyway... awesome forum... hope to meet some of you and catch up with the people I already know on here. Smiley

Welcome Kevin. Smiley  I hope you enjoy the site.  I'm not familiar with Oregon, but hopefully some of that crew can fill in if they are from Eugene or whatnot.

I was in Eugene once... but that's about it.

So... no one from Eugene? At all? Eugene used to be the place to be for tournaments and stuff... I went to plenty at the Break and All That and More... Putters too.

It's kinda funny... there were no players in Grants Pass other then me when I moved... and now there are a few. Medford has a nice scene going on and everything here in Eugene has all but vanished it seems.

If not then oh well.... I'll just make a shout out post if I'm headed anywhere else in the state.

If there are some players from Eugene, invite them here to the site!

There used to be a few thousand Oregon DDR players active in online communities--good luck finding that nowadays.  Darknote used to live in Eugene, but he's in New Orleans right now IIRC.  Spinn lives in New England, but sometimes visits Springfield.  I think there are two or three folks who live in the vicinity of Eugene who are on this site, but they visit on a monthly basis at best.

what.

Back in 2003-2005 you couldn't throw a rock without hitting someone who played DDR. Tons of people played it and were part of online communities. While I doubt that there were multiple-thousands of serious players in Oregon, I think the point that Tofu is trying to get at are that there used to be many players, now there are few.

There were a lot of players a few years ago... which makes it crazy that seemingly no one plays now. I only know of one bemani player in Eugene: Caboose (or Scott) and he, like myself, has turned to Beatmania and Pop'n...

I guess talking about it isn't gonna magically make the scene more active here in Eugene... but I am really glad that there is a dedicated forum for just the PNW. If there are any get-togethers or anything going on... be sure to shoot me a PM. Smiley

I honestly can't think of a place anywhere in the world that has more than maybe a couple hundred people active, let alone playing DDR seriously enough to post on boards, let alone ACTIVELY posting on boards. It was never that active. That figure was just pulled out of someone's ass. There's not even an inkling of truth to that figure.

Lol yeah. Living in Grants Pass... I coulda thrown a rock and hit someone who hated DDR or who thought it was gay or whatever. In a hick town like that I was the only person I knew who even liked techno/electronic music. I swear people only listened to country or emo music in that town.

What it is like up in Portland? Are there a lot of players and is there a central arcade everyone goes to or anything?

IS SOMEONE TALKING ABOUT MY ASS AGAIN >:[

LOL yeah, there might have been a few thousand people active online in North America three years ago.  Even when the Avalon was cool and people were active, I can't think of more than 20 or 30 people from Oregon who were actually active on any of the forums I was on.  DDRInfinity had a lot of registered users though IIRC.

Anyway, the active players in Portland aren't that active anymore.  People tend to play at Tilt! or Ground Kontrol, depending on which machine is in worse condition.  I need to resched the tournament I'm planning next month 'cause I'm going to be busy on the day I originally had it, but if you can make it, that would be cool.  I'm thinking May 24th.

I'm in Eugene for school. But I basically stopped playing consistently in 06 when I moved from Indiana to Oregon in the first place.

Putters gave up its PIU machine and its Extreme pads suck.

There was a ITG2 machine at a gym in Springfield...EDIT: Turns out this thing is R21 now and 50 cents doubles premium. Hell yes I'll be there now.

Movie theater at VRC has a Supernova, pads suck too and its a dollar.

There's no real other bemani games around town either, last time I checked. Correct me if I'm wrong and there's some IIDX happy sky around. I'd love that dream to come true.

So yeah, scene's dead.

The 1.50 theater has Supernova for 50 cents but it's the EMU's old ITG.

EDIT: Do you have to pay the drop in fee to use the machine and is custom songs enabled.

Last time I was there, I just told the person at the counter I just came from out of town to play the dancing game, and she just let me in and told me I'd have to stay by the machine and it would be fine.

EDIT: Do you have to pay the drop in fee to use the machine and is custom songs enabled.

Drop in fee is waived if you say you're just playing ITG. They usually have the machine unplugged when people aren't using it so don't fear a black screen. They also have the cabinet key at the desk if you need volume turned up or boot menu or something.

Startup screen says "Custom songs enabled" and displays R21 patch. However, my card must have too many songs in the folder or incompatible R21 files (too long, ya know) so while it shows my files on a hacked or "r23" machine, this one may be pretty strict on the file size/song length.

So I can't verify customs or not, but it does say they are enabled and R21 IS on the machine.

Pads are freaking amazing, by the way. No pad misses or dropped freezes in my 8 or so sessions today.

Oh and by the way, I suck these days. It's like I fell back to my ability when like 6th mix was new or something. 96.5 on Destiny and just stupid greats on songs like No Princess.

East on franklin into Springfield. Stay on the main road.

Keep going.

Keep going.

On your right.

It's really that easy.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=1204+University+of+Oregon,+Eugene,+OR+97403+(University+of+Oregon)&daddr=200+S+32nd+Street,+Springfield,+OR+97478+(Regional+Sports+Center)&geocode=FUcMoAIdFw6q-CHcy7QVG01flQ%3BCeBgxCi2_dUiFcwNoAIdTXar-CGHaIyXSWsDJQ&hl=en&mra=pe&mrcr=0&sll=44.323324,-123.117075&sspn=0.905808,2.69165&ie=UTF8&ll=44.044908,-123.026791&spn=0.056882,0.168228&z=13

Taking the bus is easy too, just lengthier.
EMX to Springfield Station. Jump on the 11 and get off at the stop closest to 32nd and main.

So who else is regularly playing on this machine?

I've seen Michael's scores (THANKS FOR QUADING BUBBLE BEFORE ME LOLZ) and some others.

Phone numbers anyone? Anyone wanna meet up and play? The machine is great and cheap!

They let me play without paying the drop in fee. The machine is in fine conditions. Custom songs work but it has the same problem the EMU's machine so if you want to play more than  a few songs bring a laptop.

Holy crap I haven't been on this site in for freaking ever. Anyway, I live in Corvallis and have been going down to the dedicab in Springfield a lot lately. The machine is great - has virtually no errors and I got it up to R21. FYI R21 lets you play any length song as long as it's patched (very easy to do) but can only have up to 50 songs on memory card, so I changed it back from when you made it R23. It's 50 cents and there's doubles premium. The desk will let you in without a fee and you can prolly get keys for turning up the sound. For some reason there seems to be random errors with the memory card slots. Sometimes mine won't save song scores or load all my custom songs, but it may be something related to my specific memory card. Despite this, everything else is great with the machine. Oh, also in the process of actually hacking the machine for permanent custom songs. Updates later.

I'm trying to go there like once a week as of now so if anyone wants to coordinate meet ups it will be easy to do. Large group small group doesn't matter, I'll be there often enough. Anyone who wants to meet or even carpool if possible send me a message.

Hey evry-body!

Name's Alex, I go by Z - just moved to Eugene.  Play DDR, used to be in tournaments 5 or so years ago.  Since then stopped playing and became a real fatty.  Started it back up again last week, went back to DDRFreak and found this link.  Back up to two hours of 5-7 feet comfortably a day.  Working on that flab.  Where's the fun at?
