yay! another 2 1/2 weeks until I come back!
So I was wondering if we could get an update on how Drummania V3 is doing?

After playing DDR X... obviously the dedicab is a terrible investment, but how are the upgrade kits? If they work, is there any chance ACME might see a Supernova upgrade in the future?

I for one would put about 20 bucks a week into DDR X (assuming 1 dollar/play) as opposed to about 3 sets of Supernova a week. The game seems to fix a lot of problems Supernova added, namely it took away many good charts from Extreme and added a lot of crap, not to mention all of the syncing issues. I don't know how others feel about this but I would like to work on my marvelous timing and actually play some playable X.

DDR X, I think the US will see very few kit upgrades.  The price is insane for the kits.  What are they thinking?
On a good note, DM V3 is up and running at the shop.  Looks like it may hold up this time.  Will test burn through this week, and if still good to go, will go to Acme early next week.

I don't really have any desire for DDR X. This video can sum it up for me:

Also, I keep hearing people saying SuperNova is terribly off-sync and was a horrible mix, and I don't see why. Now, calm down. I don't like it more than Extreme or it's predecessors, but I can't find more than a handful of songs that're truly "off beat". The interface is a bit stupid, but once you find out where they hid "All Songs" (retarded Konami, absolutely retarded), it's not that terrible of a mix. True, I miss some song selections from the previous games (So DEEP), but with the Max 2 sitting adjacent to it, I can pretty much cover all my post 5th mix desires between the two.

Suko, the problem with DDR Supernova is that every song is synced slightly differently, which is HORROR for Aural players like myself. Someone who times visually should realistically have no problems timing on Supernova, but everything on there is slightly offbeat from the music, some songs in one direction and some in another. Basically, Konami just didn't devote the time and attention the should have to polishing it.

Incidentally, pre-patch Supernova was a lot worse and comparatively it's awesome now, but... the players who are the "best" on Supernova are the ones who can time songs that are synced incorrectly, not the legitimate bests at dance games.

For some reason Konami thought people actually enjoyed playing Chaos.

Suko, that video's pretty disgusting.  The announcer with his quarter-tone voice and whiney tone; the plethora of completely retarded stops; the bouncing Marvs (they're supposed to FLASH, not BOUNCE)... the whole thing just doesn't seem very appealing.  Even with perfect pads and syncing, I'd greatly prefer Max2 or Extreme any day.  Hell, I think I'd even be happier with SuperNOVA.  At least it's syncing problems are fairly consistent with those of Extreme.

If people would be willing to get this just for Marvs, just play Random Caprice on DDR Extreme.  That way to can learn to MA on GOOD CHARTS.  Nonstop courses also give you more play time (6:00 to 4:30) over about the same real time (6:40 to 6:30), assuming 30 seconds to select a song/course and 10 seconds to select mods.

This song is crap. When I played the game, however, I noticed a lot of really well written lower difficulty charts that were legitimately fun. Cheesy I wouldn't touch any kind of "18 foot" techno crap chart either.

I kind of like the unashamed racism of the announcer though; "SELECT A MUSIC HOMES" is just hilarious.

If you want some good charts that aren't brutal, I strongly suggest checking out DDR Encore. I haven't personally tried it yet, but Keby posted about it in this thread:
http://www.pnwbemani.net/smf/index.php?topic=754.0

I have also tried Mungyo Dance and I can say that the majority of the charts I sampled seemed very straight forward and not all that complex or technical. You might want to look there if you prefer fun over pain when playing a song.

Love the upgrades to the machine...  Now I have to find new edits for my USB drive as they were all ITG3 and Rebirth edits...

As soon as I hear that V3 dm is back up, I will be there...
Unless I am on vacation, which I am from July 3-10,
so hope this is up at least a couple of days before then.

Okay, DM survived a weekend burn in test.  Going to Acme today.  Let's keep our fingers crossed that it will keep running okay.

Great! Excellent! Fantastic! Now Acme is completely exclusively the only arcade I'll go to to play Bemani. I'll still keep popping over to Waterfront for Pump but I know how you feel about Pump, Bill. Tongue

At Kevin, oh no, you trader!  Going to the waterfront for PIU...........haha, just kidding.  The Cichy family that operates that arcade are friends of mine and good people.

Still hoping the DM will hold up!  :-/

Well, I'm back now. Time for some ridiculous V3 action today.

Bill, just confirming: the TGM tournament on the 19th is still on, right? 6pm!

Kevin, yes, it's on.  Just remind me the day before and let me know when you will be there so the tech can come by and get the cabinet unlocked.

Just went down to Acme. Some new TGM3 records and a whole lotta DM.

First things first:

Drummania is absolutely amazing!! The cabinet works pretty much perfectly. Volume is good, drums are good, everything is good. The only complaint I have now is that the bass pedal makes this really really painfully loud *clunk* noise when you let go of it. I don't think it's urgent to fix as it still works perfectly but it's kind of annoying if you're playing any other game and you have to hear it.

I saw the ITG3 marquee today, heh. Gotta get working on that ASAP...

TGM is perfect as usual. ITG and both DDRs were working fine.

Also, ah fuck! I meant the 17th. That's what the earlier post said at any rate.

Thanks for getting DM back in action Bill ~ seems to be running great.   One thing I wanted to ask is if  bonus (long songs) could be set to 2 songs  the way it was before.   It is currently set that way on GF but not on DM  (DM has long songs count as 3 songs).

Thanks.
