I found it to be much better without the black bar on the bottom of the screen.  Tongue

For me, the screen was perfect on Friday when I played. With that black bar, it makes it feel like boost is on.

It is whatever at this point, to much stress trying to get things working properly. The machines always going to have some issue, I guess I'm just going to have to come to term with that. Undecided

Let me re-emphasize, it wasn't the monitor size, it is the background graphics that were causing the problems. So, if its possible please change it back.  Roll Eyes

If something like the monitor size is going to change, we would really like an update letting us know. Again, there is a lack of communication, definitely a challenge. Who changed it up by the way?  Smiley

Would it be possible for someone to put a new pack on the machine?

It would be great if we can get Tachyon Delta on the machine, Mad Matt charts are beastly!  Grin

Bill, I have some useful info regarding replacing the monitor on dedicabs:
http://aaronin.jp/boards/viewtopic.php?t=10564

In summary; It's been discovered that Sony Trinitron 32" CRTs (flat screen) TVs are a perfect match for the dedicab. The mounting locations are even the same. If you want to replace the screen on this machine cheaply, try looking for one of these TVs on Craigslist (I've seen them for <$40) and try having your techs wire it up appropriately.

Hey, so, to bring it back to the above point, I'm fairly sure I've put $40 into the machine at least 100-times-over (actually I'm positive it's substantially higher than this), so can we start here and just get a new monitor? Like, sooner would be better? Bill, I thought you were on this? Or maybe if it's that hard can a tech just take a half hour to roll up to Frys and get a new one for $150? I mean this monitor issue is now months old and it really should be fixed by now; it is really quite frustrating for us regular players.

All the patterns and flashy designs that move around in the background during game play are very distracting, it makes it hard to concentrate on the notes. This was not a problem before the OS was replaced. After we got the new computer, Abbye and I noticed it immediately as well as some other frequent players.

This is correct, and shouldn't be marginalized as "just in their heads" or anything, even if the settings are the same or more lenient. There is absolutely a difference in the background's brightness; I've been playing a loooong time and yes, it's now hard to read on my normal arrow speeds. Even if these settings are "normal" settings, there is clearly something wrong and it needs to be seriously looked at. I've played the same arrow speeds for years, and the same on keyboard, and only now is it suddenly this bad. I was told that if the background is adjusted any lower it will start to affect some of the things showing up at all, but honestly I think it needs to be done to fix this problem. So please, appropriate parties, take a serious look at this background issue, because it is absolutely valid as a problem.

That being said, monitor adjustments won't fix the brightness issue by the way, since you're adjusting the foreground with it. So no need to do this any further; it should probably be left in Tony's hands to adjust the background specifically.

Anyway thanks for your consideration   Roll Eyes

I'm not really sure where everything is financially and what the machine problems are being caused by, but I'm just going to throw out there that, if we really need a new monitor, I'd be happy to donate some money to getting a new one, if that helps.

I have been pretty confused on te whole monitor thing, especially the stuff about the background.  Cannot see where a monitor adjustment coulod remove the background without removing everything.  I guess I do not get it.  We have not been tearing in to the monitor, as someone will say it's fine, and another finds problems with it.  If it turns out it needs a new monitor, it will get one.

In the meantime, I think I will take  apersonal trip up there tmorrow to take a look, and fiddle with it a bit.

Coming from a player who's there at least 6 days of the week, let me just say that the problem is apparent and its definitely something that needs to be address ASAP. All the regular players have been waiting for the background graphics to be change back to the way they were but nothing has been done.  Undecided

Let me re-emphasize that it isn't the monitor necessarily, its the background graphics that are causing the trouble. Before the OS was replace, the background graphics weren't as bright. So, as Allan mentioned, its something Tony's going to have to deal with. We just can't play with normal settings anymore. Mini %10-%15 is what I have to play with otherwise its impossible to read. Beginning to sound like a broken record  Sad

To Bill and your team,

I just wanted to thank you for all your work and help. I know us players could get a little demanding sometimes but you've stuck through all the ups and downs and made our playing experience the best it could be!

Thanks

So, what you are saying is us adjusting the monitor, or replacing it would not help, the issue has to do with the program?  That is what i am picking up here, hence why we have not been fooling around with that monitor after we adjusted it last time.

Before the game was unplayable in July and before the computer was changed, we had no issues with the monitor or the background graphics. I do not believe replacing the monitor would solve anything. The reason I believe this is because, before the computer crashed in July rendering the game unplayable, the monitor was fine. Having said that, a new monitor won't hurt, but I don't think this is the source of the problem.

I was there this morning and it was worse before we adjusted it. If you stretch the screen into that black bar, you get a scrunched picture and that weird boost effect from before. Neither option is great, but I'd prefer the black bar. I'm not 100% sure what changes we'd need to make to get back to the state it was in before sakuracon, but this is as good as it's getting using regular screen adjustments.

Initially when the computer came back, the "black bar" was on the top of the screen making the screen feel scrunched. Your tech came in and got rid of the "black bar" issue relieving the scrunched feeling, however...

As sfxazure mentioned above, they "adjusted" the screen and the black bar came back, causing the scrunched feeling. Most of the players found the way your techs fixed the screen to be better then how the screen was readjusted.

Just restating, the primary issue, the MOST IMPORTANT issue I believe is in the programming. The background graphics/brightness are what needs adjusting first and foremost.

So I was here last night with Sara, Laura, and Tony.
Fun session!

My thoughts.
honestly this machine is in this weird type of condition where it's not completely terrible and it's not completely amazing. It has a lot from both worlds.

Monitor stuff.
So right off the bat the black bar at the bottom needs to be fixed. Just some screen resizing should do the trick.

I didn't notice the background issue everyone has been talking about as much unless I was playing Dforce on Metal as opposed to Cel. I felt like the colors did fade into the BG and it was a little difficult to play but other than that i'm not 100% on what you're bitching about.

As for the "Boost" issue.
I noticed that if I picked Overhead on the right side it still very much felt like I was playing on Hallway. Pretty sure that is because of the monitor being so scrunched.

other things I noticed.
On the judgement screen for two players, the Font is smaller on the left side than it is on the right side. fairly certain that is a good indication of how warmed the monitor is and not a theme issue or anything like that.

My understanding was there were knobs on the board in the back and you can just adjust them to resize the image properly.

Pads
P2 is still better than P1.
P1's up arrow is under sensitive
overall they are totally playable though just not to a preferred degree.
Sara says she'd be willing to lift the panels just a little to make them more flush. No foam required.
Since she has her own cab and does great work I'd listen to her.

Bars
Seriously....yeah....
Those things need to be rewelded asap. P2 used to be nice but now it's SUPER shaky and P1 is just as bad as ever.
That really needs a fix.

Over all analysis
Turn some knobs and get the monitor back to tip top shape. It shouldn't need a replacement unless something is screwed up than it can't be sized and focused properly.
Should take two people or one person and a mirror. 10-15 min fix
Let Sara work her magic and the pads will be super awesome.
She wants to play here and wants people to enjoy playing here.
Give it some time though she just got here and she's just starting work this week at a new job ect.
Reweld the bars, jesus.

So last night my buddy Kyle played a few sets last night, left for a bit, came back, saw that the machine had an out of order sign that seemed to have come out of no where, decided to put his money in anyway to see if it worked, worked perfectly fine, then suddenly that asshole poor excuse for a security guard came in and kicked him off the machine mid-set because it was "out of order" when it clearly wasn't and I guess the machine got turned off for the rest of the night. I mean that guy kicked me out for bringing in a sandwich for fucks sake like it's such a big deal.

Just a heads up - Tony has been keeping up with the thread and is working on a post addressing all of your concerns, but it might take him awhile due to the fact that by "post" I really mean "five page essay."

There was complaints about the bar being loose, so our techs brought it in for welding.  Also, they spent some time tweaking and perfecting the monitor.  Some bad capacitors were causing issues, all replaced now.  :-)  Bar will be back in the morning.

Fantastic thank you for fixing the bar!

If its at all possible the player 1 side down arrow isn't responding to well to out steps. Also, the up arrow on the same side was rotated. We rotated it back because it doesn't register well, at times not at all. I've already tried to rotate all the arrows and the only one that responds well is the up arrow on the player 2 side. If people want to rotate the arrow we have to rebalance the sensors at the same time.

At ACME right now playing on the player 1 side and the sensors are not up to par, pretty horrible to be honest. The down arrow is false triggering a lot and the left arrow could use a bit I work as well. I believe it could be the sensors on the inside towards the center plate that could be causing the issues. When I step further out it responds decently well but not at %100.

Thanks!

So I hesitated a lot before making this post because it is entirely possible that I am the only Pump player who is even having this issue, at which point I'd feel funny bringing it up, but has anyone else happened to notice that the Pump pads - at least on the 2p side - are kind of under-sensitive, in the sense that you have to step harder-than-average to get them to trigger?  I've been having this problem where I get a lot of misses when I step lightly, and I don't have it with ITG or the Pump at Big Al's, but maybe it's just me?

I actually felt that way a month ago about piu @ acme...i guess the last time i played (about 2 weeks ago) it didnt feel that way as much...i still feel that, during a short stream of notes, i tend to miss more because i dont tap the arrows hard/accurately enough for them to register. since im used to itg's sensitiveness. So its not just you laura :p

I favor the 2p side on Fiesta 2 a lot over at ACME, and it always seem fine to me. One thing I did notice Monday was when selecting songs I have to repetitly tap the down left or down right arrows unlike before where I can just a foot on either arrows and scolled through song selections within seconds. Other then that, 2p side seems to be working great.
