- ORIGINAL POST -
I just got my cabinet up and running again; been a while (almost 8 months) but new parts came in finally and things are in a working state!
Pricing info:
I'd prefer $5 cover fee for all-day play; i.e. Friday or Saturday - if you aren't planning on staying long, play for free, or whatever feels fair. I also accept payment in form of snacks, candy and help maintaining the machine. If you help me with fixing my pads, or more properly mounting my monitor in the cabinet - I could see free games for life being in your future quickly.
Machine Info:
-Event Mode
-OpenITG Beta 3 running on stripped Windows 7
-Network based management for easy addition/subtraction of songs
-Originally a KOR 3rd mix; upgraded to Extreme and now modded to oITG using MiniMaid.
-Working lights thanks to MiniMaid
Song pack info:
-Custom songs enabled, computer is on side shelf temporarily until I install a USB Hub.
-All DDR Packs, Beyond Legends, Reach's singles, ITG 1-3 any pack/simfile available on request
Location info:
-Oak Harbor, WA - on beautiful Whidbey Island: PM for exact address
-Ferry is faster if you schedule your trip around it; Deception pass if not.
-Availability is up to my work schedule; typically will be available 8am-10pm Friday & Saturday - call in advance, especially for any other days
-Parking is a pain; park on the street or at the church.
-Futon for chilling between rounds
-Water is free as it should be
-Food is expensive - bring your own.
Rules:
-No horseplay (or at least keep it minimal) I don't want stuff getting broken
-Keep it (relatively) quiet - I have neighbors and a roommate
-Fair rotation - DON'T HOG THE MACHINE.
-My house, my rules - if I deem your behavior inappropriate I will discuss it with you.
-If I ask you to leave, please do so; I'd prefer to avoid drama.
-Closing time is closing time, I have to sleep, and I don't wan't the cops called on me for being loud past 10 for you playing. If I offer for you to stay or I myself decide to play later, that's on me.
On the note of inappropriate behavior - I don't have a one strike your out or three strikes policy, things will be handled on a case by case basis; if you insult someone, I'll probably just talk to you about being respectful over other people. If you punch someone in the face, you should probably just go. In general I trust the DDR/ITG community to be respectful of one-another. Just have some common sense.
Personal opinion of pad condition:
Code:
P1: P2:
10 7
9 10 7 7
8. 3
Issues (in rough order of importance):
-P1 Up has trouble with holds
-P2 Down is sometimes unresponsive
-P1 & 2 are generally under sensitive (think "7 out of 10")
-Monitor sits approximately 1" too low in cabinet
-Monitor glass isn't installed (see above)
-Bar compartment panels not installed (currently - should be soon enough)
-P1 Menu Right button is missing a piece on the left side
-P1 Menu Left button light diffusion panel is cracked
Currently on Order:
-New sensors
-LED replacements for CCFL tubes
-New sockets for header lights
-New ballast for Marquee light
-New Menu buttons
-New screws for pads & cabinet
Received but haven't installed:
-New corner bumpers
-New pad hose
-New hose junction boxes
Recently repaired:
-New monitor installed
-Leather pads installed on bars (I have non slip grips for those who prefer no leather; as I do)
-Bars powder coated
-Pads given a quick clean internally (nothing to in depth)
-Panels for pads given a thorough clean (dawn & water soak -> air dry and reinstalled)
Pics:
Ignore the lack of bars/clutter in this shot, it's just to give you an idea of the setup, things have moved a bit but this is roughly it:
Event type info:
IF
I hold some sort of event/party for DDR/ITG players, I will likely provide some sort of snackage; including other beverages besides water. In the event that I do, be mindful of my neighbors, and the lack of parking in my immediate area. Extra snacks/drinks obviously welcome in these kinds of situations - Food is expensive, yo. These types of things
WILL
be publicized in advance.
Some other notes:
Unfortunately I will likely only be in the PNW until July of next year. After that I plan on returning to my homeland of Colorado to attend College and hopefully find a new source of employment. I'd really like to get to know the community up here as I haven't been as active as I could during the last 4 years I've been here. I had a lot of priorities to sort through and now I'm finally at a point where I can focus on things I love. My time here is short but I'm sure I'll get to meet great people.
Finally, contact information:
You can call or text me at 720-951-3560 between 10am and 10pm; if I don't answer I'm probably at work, leave a message. You can also drop me a PM here, Zenius, Boxorroxors (zero) or Facebook.
I will attempt to keep this updated as I repair the machine.
P.S. If you are decent with metalworking/woodworking, I would love some help making some brackets to make this monitor fit correctly.

I don't expect an exact address, but what area do you live in? This would probably be useful info.
Also, no ITG Rebirth stepcharts? I'd suggest you look into Rebirth 1 & 2 if you haven't yet. They're great if you're looking for a "complete" song pack with doubles and marathon charts, etc.
I like your garage(?), it reminds me of when we had our machine in a mini storage and we used to play from there. Ah Grooveshack. Those were the days.

I feel like I should implement this method at my place or something... Its kind of dumb that I never have snacks/plastic cups but with this I could actually buy food and offer stuff to people that come over to play... I feel bad asking tho. Lol

I can't believe I forgot to put whereabouts I live; you are right about not wanting to put out exact address info except by PM; however I meant to put that I live in Oak Harbor, WA which is located in the Puget Sound/Skagit area on Whidbey Island. Those coming from Everett/Seattle direction will find that planning their trip to catch the ferry will be approximately 30m faster (however, this is assuming you can plan to be there when the ferry is arriving, if you aren't planning your trip it will be faster to continue north and come across deception pass, rather than waiting on the ferry) I will put this info in the main post ><

I thought long and hard about whether to charge or just ask for donations or what. I mean, running the cab isn't free; and food and water aren't either. Water is kind of a necessity so I wouldn't charge for that. Food is kind of expensive, and its easy enough to stop and grab a bite to eat, or bring snacks with you. But cabinet maintenance is a cost that I would otherwise kind of have to front myself. I don't really mind it, but I would appreciate if you would drop a bill my way every once in a while (I should probably point out I'll probably be pretty loose on enforcing payment, but it would be greatly appreciated since parts are already starting to add up - $500+ on parts just since I got the machine, and nobody besides me has played on it. I feel bad any time I ask for money, but I figure in the long haul it would probably be better overall. I'd put all money toward the machine/game area/electricity which improves the experience for everyone. This also keeps my wallet more flexible for things like... IDK a Vewlix sit down cab with Hyperspin for something to do between rounds of DDR.

Hey Garrett! Fancy finding you here.
Great idea. I was thinking about doing the exact same thing once my machine is running. Asking for money I think is completely fair. Those who are serious about playing would be saving a bundle on play anyways based on the amount of quarters they are dumping into a public machine. Not only that, but I assume our machines will be maintained and run a lot better than the public ones. Lastly, snacks and drinks always cost money out there as well. I guess there's usually a drinking fountain around so water is free.
One thing you might want to do once this gets going is make sure you have a sharpie around. Have people mark their cups/bottles of water. That way they always use the same one instead of getting new ones each time. I run parties for my business 4 times a week and this has really cut down on cup usage (cost of which really adds up, not to mention the carbon footprint it leaves).
Hopefully I'll be able to get up there and checkout your machine one of these days. On a side note. We got a Vewlix cab around the same time my DDR machine came in. Been trying to work on the two in parallel. Let me know if you have any questions about it. It's definitely a lot of work to put together and finish. We haven't even started sanding it yet. But it'll be awesome ones everything is up and running. Can't wait.

Quick update! Worked on P1 pad for a few hours and it looks almost new inside now (rust and such) replaced a lot of sensors and redid some things and now its almost perfect! the left and down arrow have the only issues. The down arrow is a wee too sensitive and standing wrong causes it to fire mines - this is quickly adjusted for. The left arrow very very rarely missfires in heavy stream (12-13+) throwing a way off. Still working on isolating the left arrow issue. The down arrow is also occasionally slow to release but I think this is a debounce problem - still playing with debounce values to get that perfect...
In other news I switched the theme to GrooveNights as SL is having issues... And I added MANY popular packs atm. Every Mute sims, Tachyon, and Talon; TranceMania, SharpnelStreamz, Pendulum and more! I'm going to be upgrading the PC OpenITG is on too something s bit more powerful CPU and Chipset wise since those are limiting performance big time. Might also toss in more ram - black friday, anyone?

That's the beauty of owning your own machine. You don't need to worry about traveling so far to play dance games.

Goodbye, Washingtonians. I realize I made this post a bit late. I met a few people in the community, however nobody ever made it up to play =\ oh well. I guess I'm the only one who had to travel hours to get to the community so yeah. Anyways I'm back in Colorado now. My machine is no longer in Washington for obvious reasons.
