It's official. My buddies and I now own our own ITG2 machine. Sadly, it's in a ministorage unit, untested, until we can find a place to set it up.
Does anyone have any locations within 20 miles of Seattle that they can think of that we could setup this machine for public use? YMCA/Boys & Girls clubs, Gyms, Bowling Alley?
I'm specifically looking for anyone who can give me assistance in dealing with these organizations. For instance, I wouldn't mind putting it in a YMCA or Boys & Girls club, but I need to get a hold of the right people to set some rules, etc. Same with a gym. I think this would be a great piece of "equipment" for a gym to have, but I don't know anyone who I can get a hold of to suggest this.
Anyways, I'm just seeing if anyone out there has any ideas. I can't make any promises about where I will place this thing, but I'm all ears and open to any suggestions.

Yes. Try talking to the management of
Tech City Bowl
. If that does not work, check out
Sun Villa Lanes
. I believe both venues would be very willing to set up your cabinet. Ask me on IM if you need more info.

How much are you making it per game, and how many songs?

Talk to UW and some other colleges. I know PSU would eat something like this up.

UW wouldn't have much room for another dance game. They've got Extreme and have trouble keeping up on repair... Plus the college kids might not care as much about it.
Same for malls - think 13 year olds stomping all day on it.
I don't think Suko wants his machine ruined.

From what I can see, the majority of the people running around who would play on a DDR/ITG2 machine are college-age (19-25, for the most part), so maybe you're just talking about UW, but I think a big part of the reason DDR's not doing well in arcades anymore is because most of its fanbase went off to college debtland.
Anyway, I'm sure there are other colleges near Seattle to talk to about it. Portland has, like, 8 different colleges I can think of (PSU, UP, AIP, Reed, Marylhurst, CCC, PCC, MHCC), and Seattle's got twice the population, so I'm sure there are plenty of good candidates.
And to be honest, I think that the only place a machine can realistically make a profit is in a college environment or if it's being rented out to events and parties.

You should rent it out to Sakuracon, heh. That is if you don't have it situated anywhere yet.

As of right now it's chilling in a ministorage on the other side of the state. We're going to move it this summer when a) the weather is better and b) we have a place to put it. The last time we played it, the machine was in great shape, but that was 6 months ago and that was before we purchased it. Soooo, we're not exactly sure this thing is in top shape. That's half the reason we want to get it setup someplace, is to get it into top shape.
Thanks for your ideas. I will look into some of these more. The problem with places that already have an existing arcade (i.e. college's, bowling alleys, malls) is that they usually have exclusive contracts already in place through their current distributor. So a person like myself can't put my lone ITG 2 machine there. I will keep an eye out and keep poking around for possibilities.

I'd still say talk to some of the YMCA's and stuff, doubt it'll take as much of a beating as a "public" place would. Just pull up the location's individual number, and ask to speak to a manager. It's a time-tested strategy in signmaking

YMCA's are a pretty solid place to put machines. I also agree with the idea of renting out to conventions. There are quite a few cons in the Sea/Tac area, and 3 that I can think of in Portland that would have some interest in a machine. If a dedicab does wind up at Sakuracon this year, I probably will too. I doubt I'll be going otherwise though, unless I wind up staffing, which is a possibility, but not a likely one.

yeah, but It'd be nice to have it somewhere not so close to another ITG2 dedicab.
It'd be awesome to have it at gameworks, because then it would only be a 2 minute walk from my apartment. Then again, this is gameworks I'm talking about so scratch that idea.

You know if you really can't find anywhere to put it permanently right now, might I suggest Sakura-con maybe? It'd be pretty awesome to have an ITG 2 Dedicab there, but then again. It's all up to you obviously.

I'd love to have it at Sakura-Con, but there's a problem.
1) The machine is 5 hours away in Pullman, WA crammed into a mini storage.
2) I don't even have a garage or ANYWHERE to set this thing up to verify it's even in playable condition. (I might hook it up and half the pad isn't working...that would suck for those at Sakura-Con).
3) I'm not too eager to pay to ship the thing all the way over here, only to use it at Sakura-Con, then drive it all the way back.

good point, how long has it been since you hooked it up and played it?

I can hook you up with a garage for the week before and after SC if you're interested.

Sakuracon might be willing to provide free storage of the machine if you let them use it. I'd talk to Jon (DMN) about it. Try emailing him at
programming@sakuracon.org
.
Also, I'd be willing to pay to replace up to four sensors if necessary (I'll do six if you're fine with PIU sensors) if it's at Sakuracon; I'd really like to have an ITG2 Dedicab for the tournaments.

I will keep this in consideration. I'd prefer to find a more permanent place for it where the other owners and myself could still play it regularly. If by some miracle I can get the thing over here and working by SakuraCon, I wouldn't mind it being used for some events (assuming someone helps and/or pays to have it moved there).

Ok, we've found a ministorage that has power outlets reasonably close to each unit. I plan on moving it from Pullman to here this weekend and then we can finally see what kind of condition it's in. I can't wait to get this thing over here and done with. This transport across the state will hopefully be the hardest part.
P.S. I'm open to the idea of using this machine for a tourny at Sakura-Con. But I think it'd be a good idea if we make sure it's working first.

Pft, look at all of you wanting free ITG. You'd think I was running a soup kitchen!
Seriously though, if I need any help or advice, I know I've got people here I can ask.
