- ORIGINAL POST -
I'm moving from the east side (Pullman) to Edmonds in the next few weeks. I've been playing DDR for years and I don't anticipate to stop anytime soon. I went onto the machine locator on DDRFreak, but the only places close are; Funtasia Family Fun Park, Brunswick Majestic Lanes, and Gameworks, and all but Gameworks charge $1 for 3 songs.
I know this is what you're all used to overe here on the west side, but to me this is outragous. Are there any machines within a 10 minute drive of Edmonds that give you a bit more for your buck? Also, has anyone played on any of the machines at these places? I pray that for a dollar per game, they're at least in great condition. Btw, everyone seems to loath Gameworks, why is that, and how come they seem to have the cheapest games in town...what's the catch?

There aren't any DDR machines other than GW that are cheaper than 75 cents. The only Extreme worth playing on in this area is the one at Narrows Plaza Bowl in Tacoma. Gameworks Extreme has horrible pads. Don't play on them. The GFDM machines are currently the best in WA, but everything else is horrible (SN is sometimes good, although 1P side is messed up ATM). In general, the arcade doesn't really care about rhythm games except for Pop'n and GFDM. Also, I once had a very bad experience with a tech there; catch me on AIM if you'd like to know the details. However, the current techs seem to be very friendly. Everything at Gameworks is 50 cents now, but if you have an old card you can carry over points from the old system to get virtually free gameplay.
Acme Bowl is the best arcade to support. Bill Masterman is really cool, and extremely helpful to the PNWBemani community. He's also on top of fixing everything, and as such all the machines at Acme are in awesome condition. The Drummania machine has a few problems, but they are likely to be permanent since the machine was so badly abused at its old home, Illusionz.
So in conclusion:
- Cheap DDR here always sucks.
- Bill's arcades are really good!
- Go to Acme or Narrows!
That's about it. Welcome to the community! Let me know if you're going to the arcades any time soon, it's always cool to meet new peeps.

I have been to Acme, and it is indeed awesomness.
Unfortunately, from my future residence to Acme and back is over an hour long drive, which means it will cost me about 15+ dollars in gas to visit the place, let alone paying for the games. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to start playing at home or on ghetto pads if I'm going to be a tightwad.

Funtasia sucks.
If the machine is in working condition, you may be able to play... and if you don't mind the pads actually being broken down the middle. Last year (last time I stopped in) the pads are actually separated partway between player 1 and 2.
Oh, and Brunswick sucks for DDR as well. Pads are never cleaned, horrible sensors, and yeah. North end DDR = not happening.

There's a solo 4th mix in the University District (Seattle) in a used clothing store that's free... UW has an Extreme, and so those are probably the best two machines close to Lynnwood.
And they're the closest to me, yet I rarely play on either. haha

For what it's worth, the UW machine is actually fairly OK on the 1P side. I have had AAAs recently on that machine.
