We have tournaments probably twice a year at most, and usually on something other than Extreme.

If you want to run one, what location and time frame would you be looking at? That's usually more important than the rules or game around here.

Yeah, serious tournament play kinda died off around here.  We mostly have them as an excuse to get together and hang out for a day, so ruleset is a minor detail.

Roughly how many people would show up to the tournament?

Where would be the best (and most willing) place to do it?

And would we have the ability to open up the pads to fix them?  Nothing is worse than pad misses =/

I have a good set of rules to go by if people are willing to follow a stricter rule set.  Time to revive this scene! 

As far as DDR tournaments go, Acme or Narrows would be the best places to have one at. Bill Masterman is very good about letting people run tournaments and also very good at maintaining machines.

I was thinking of running either a Pop'n or Drummania tournament a while back; the only reason I didn't do it is because I couldn't guarantee a good attendance.

Probably 8-14 would be the number of people at the tournament, depending on schedules, type of tournament, and other considerations. Our group of players around the Seattle area has changed from highly competitive to a casual, more hang-out type of group. A group of us (myself included) wouldn't place well at anything besides air hockey (I'm pretty good...) and the usual winners of the past DDR tournaments wouldn't dominate unless it was a crazy mod/crazy ruleset that wasn't just perfect/great count type.

There could be a casual tournament with a pop'n/DM side tournament, as more people seem to be playing both of those (mostly pop'n though).

As for the pads, as long as they're in good shape we really won't need to be opening them, nor worrying about pad misses. Our arcade machine vendor for the tournament locations (Bill) keeps his machines in great shape and would make sure they would be clean for a tournament.

Not yet.  What are some good times to go if I want to play Extreme and meet people?

I hail from Rhode Island, and it is highly competitive among players.  We have multiple tournaments around the New England area per month, so I'm used to some more aggressive playing =p  We all have DDRecall accounts that we keep track off and compare.  This will be a bit of a change, but if the community is equally as awesome, I'm psyched.

And the Pop n' doesn't hurt either. 

You mentioned you're in Seattle, but the only main place in the Seattle area with an Extreme is Gameworks. Acme has Supernova and all the other games though.

For the best days, it's usually Friday night, either at Acme or Gameworks. Sometimes people post that they are going, but recently it's been "eh, I'll just go and see if anyone's there."  If you definitely want to meet people though post to see when others will be there/when you're going.

And some people don't actually play rhythm games, but just post on the forums at 3 o'clock in the morning for fun.  Wow, your life is so much better than mine.
